Well done, guys!! I'm in awe at how much work went into making the video! When you first reached out to me about this CGI domino video idea, I was so excited to see how it would come out - did not disappoint! Thanks for consulting with me - it was awesome being able to help inspire the design for the grand tower. If only we could do something this large in real life 😂 (still dreaming haha)

This is pretty funny because allthough the narrative was perfect of the video I literally also felt that there was a little to less time to appreciate the CGI and the whole domino track. Was Aching to see more of it. Niko has a point there. But love the end result!
@SirWrender

So here’s the thing. What Niko referenced was in the script from the beginning. We were always gonna take a moment and watch the dominos fall, with a few shots just enjoying that. He was just changing when it would happen. The ultimate problem that came up however was that we simply didn’t have enough time to do those shots. I’d say about half the shots we intended to do actually made it to the final video. The shot with all the small dominos at the starting line was by far the most challenging shot overall of the entire video, so the idea of having several more would have delayed the video longer than the video was worth. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@@SirWrender This is a shame, would have loved to see the montage of them enjoying the dominoes right after they place the golden domino in place, they are not in rush anymore and Wren's character could enjoy the view with epic music for a minute and then Sam's call would interrupt this, giving it a nice contrast and they would continue the rush. Epic video either way.

This is a misunderstanding. We were always gonna have the domino appreciation scene. Niko wanted to change how and when we did it. The main reason why we didn’t put it in the final video is because it would have taken wayyyyy too long to do, rather than it not fitting the edit.
@enting1991

@@SirWrender I would have actually preferred far less acting because much of it felt very forced, especially Sam getting stuck under the tower - why would he be there and how would he get stuck there in the first place? If the second half of the video after the safety gap would have been nothing but enjoying the Dominos fall, I feel that would have made a far better result. Apart from that, some sound and physics issues I noticed (some dominos sound way smaller than they are, some sound like metal despite being wood, some float in mid-air instead of getting dragged away from the dominos they stand on) kind of made the video less enjoyable. I hope you guys revisit this idea and focus on the Dominos more than acting. Let the Dominos act.

@@SirWrender Ah yeah that makes sense, time crunches can be a bitch. Thanks for taking the time to answer. :)
This might be my favorite Corridor Crew video yet. It was awesome getting a more in-depth look into the effects, and how you actually go about producing them from pre- to post-, especially what exact processes are going on in software to create them. It was also really cool to see some of the group dynamics and decision making that goes on behind the scenes. I really respect how you guys make decisions in that you all seem wholly concerned with the creative vision, and you aren't afraid to voice your opinions or express frustration. That's one thing I really like about how Niko and Sam lead the team; they ultimately have the final say, but they still consult the rest of the team regularly and are genuinely interested in how each person views the project. And I think that's not just a kind or empathetic approach, but actually a pragmatic one. It seems like it leads to really good dialogue between everyone, since people aren't afraid to express their frustrations and work through differences in opinion, as they know their opinions are valued and that each person is just striving to create something good. That seems to make a more effective team. It might mean that there is conflict in the short term, and the discomfort that comes with it, but in the end I think they know that no matter what arguments take place the integrity of the group is preserved. They know that It's not personal, and everyone is just trying to make the best product they can, and I think that actually makes it so. I've been in too many group creative endeavors where everyone just avoids conflict at all cost, and that cost is usually the final product, so I respect you guys a lot for doing it the way you do. The results speak for themselves, awesome video!
Videos like this make me respect Sam and Niko so much. The ability to make exec decisions that will make your best friends feel like shit and have them work so much more but will ultimately make a better product is such a hard thing to do and master. These guys are such good friends (on camera at least) that it’s gotta be so taxing to have to put on the “boss hat” and he the bearer of bad news.

9:06 Maybe it's from the perspective or high FOV of the camera in this scene, but it looks like the light (used for the shadows) was placed way too close (worldspace) in the 3D editor. Obviously this project is over, but, if you're trying to fake shadows from the sun make sure the light is extremely far away to give almost orthographic shadows!
@Undy1
3 жыл бұрын
Nah, it's a sunlamp, the shadows are perfectly parallel, they just appear like that because of perspective. Similar to how train tracks "converge". Though I have to say that the CGI in this video wasn't as good as I expected it to be. To be honest in some scenes it was worse than in the test footage they did on this channel. And just like in the test footage, the camera tracks were very floaty throughout the whole video (especially in the very beginning). The lighting on the dominoes was somehow off. It's probably because the materials were just too clean and crisp. Also in some scenes you can see perfectly sharp dominoes while the footage is actually pretty soft, even blurry. Furthermore I think the inclusion of metal materials was a mistake - none of them look real, at all. And in 1:28-1:33 the dominoes are way oversaturated - there's just no possible way they could've captured that brightly colored dominoes with that camera.

@MonotoneCreeper

@@Undy1 Tracking is very hard to do, especially on footage that isn't in a controlled environment (like outside), and on shots that are supposed to look like found footage. They probably had no option of reshoots, so if a shot had too much motion blur, or not enough trackable spots, the tracking won't be perfect. I'm sure they could have spent double the time matching the lighting perfectly and setting up tracking markers for all of the shots, but they are a small team with a limited budget.
I love how they incorporate some sort of stories even in the bts.
Oh they had Lily, thats such a cool thing to do. Stuff like that is what makes content like this even better.
ANyone else thought the dominoes were still a little floaty with the falling motions? Is it because of my poor understanding on how large objects would naturally fall or is it a creative decision on Corridor's side?

I just saw a lot of whining from a spoiled artist who gets to play around in an environment most people can only dream about. _Poor guy._ It must be *_so_* hard for him. I don't begrudge any of them the opportunities that have come their way, and I'm sure they work their asses off, but the very least they could do is *_appreciate_* just how unique their situation is and how damned fortunate they are instead of complaining. Wanna trade Clint? I'm there in a heartbeat.
yo side note, love the story telling of this BTS, solid effort on this and the final vid too! :)
Clint deserves an extra subscriber after all this work.
