    @@JohnBham79 Illegal software downloads? Not recommended but pretty much everyone does it, especially at the learning stage. Even my University teachers kinda encouraged it. And if you enroll into University, then all software licenses are like 50-75% cheaper. Not into pirating? After Effect is a good one to start with and it is only £20 a month and you can cancel license at any point. Footage wise, again Internet. If you are interested in Roto/Paint/Compositing, which is mainly what these guys did apart from CG modelling, lighting, animation and etc, then you can always work with existing films. Try rotoscoping characters from films and putting them into other shots. Or removing certain object from the shot altogether. No real need to fully film your own footage in order to learn the basics. And Roto/Paint is a starting point for almost everyone who wants to be a compositor. There is always a way. I got into University making videos with animated films, not even real actor ones. When they asked to bring live footage material, I filmed a fight between knights (during a show) on my phone and then gave them light Sabers from Star Wars. Made a commercial edit for Fencing club using one of the basic video cameras. None of my software were legal at the time. But that was enough to get me into University where I had access to Green Screen studio, tons of software and equipment. And after building Showreel have me work in VFX industry now. Still come back to fan videos purely for casual fun and nostalgia. So yes, it is very much possible.

    Ironically, some of the “mistakes” you made in the shoot that added complexity to your VFX work is also what sells the realism of the final product. Well fellas, I am a professional VFX artist and CG animator and compositor. Overall, I liked it, but here are some comments made to be constructive: More feather in your clean plate mattes, and match the grain level, I was able to see the lines from the too much to none at all grain level on the mattes. Are you compensating for depth of field? In some shots the CG robot appears more sharp than other objects/people at the same focal distance. (Detective Pikachu had that problem here and there as well) The contact shadows on the... wood blocks? didn't quite nail it, a bit of hover foot going on there. And that's at a glance. From one digital artist to a group of others. I love you guys!

  • @AlessandroSchiassi

    @AlessandroSchiassi

    5 жыл бұрын

    I agree, especially on matching the noise level. You can denoise easily with Neat Video (the latest version is amazing) and then re-apply noise on top of everything, including the robot (which is missing the noise here and there). As for the hovering foot, Clint should have worn shoes similar to the robot so you'd keep that part instead of removing it.
