福= good fortune; luck; happiness 倒轉 = turn upside down 到 = arrive Therefore, 福倒轉 good fortune character turned upside down equates to 福到 good fortune arrives You'll notice that the first character of 'turn upside down' is almost the same as the character 'arrive'. They sound exactly the same. Hence is why you see this upside down fortune character sometimes on people's doors or windows.

I'm sure you've noticed there's a lot of symbolism in this culture of thousands of years... you might even say we are a superstitious lot 😉 So during CNY, eat a whole fish because the word for it sounds like 'being abundant'. Eat some long noodles which symbolizes long life, etc. etc.

I love seeing red all over :) Your kids are awesome and it is so wonderful to hear them speak Mandarin so naturally and to know they will grow up truly "trilingual" assuming you are also teaching them Dutch?

Thanks! Yes they are truly trilingual, also learning Dutch! It’s amazing how kids can learn multiple languages so easily and switch between them so fast. But of course the Chinese language is the hardest, learning to read and write thousands of characters and ancient poems takes a lot of time and dedication, but they are doing it so that’s awesome! Thanks for watching 🫶🏻

@@OurChineseLife Thank you for encouraging them in their language learning journey. Though learning Mandarin and learning how to read and write Chinese is hard, in the long run, they will benefit from learning the ancient poems and the thousands of characters in the Chinese language. I can recognize a dozen different characters (I learned them when I was a kid) and it is quite useful when traveling.
