How we can feed the world by 2050 | Carl Jensen | TEDxLusaka

NOTE FROM TED: TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/t...
Trillions of dollars have been spent on agricultural development in the past 60 years, but what do we have to show for it? In much of the world, farmers are still going hungry, productivity is abysmal, and rural poverty rates have stagnated at alarmingly high levels. In this talk, Carl Jensen uses examples from the social enterprise he co-founded in Zambia to argue that the entire agricultural ecosystem must work together and engage farmers with a "full-farm" and lifelong approach if we are to succeed in meeting our goal of successfully feeding the world in 2050. Carl Jensen is the CEO and Co-founder of Good Nature Agro, which, was founded in 2014 to, "Move smallholder farmers into the middle class". Good Nature currently connects 11,000 farmers to quality markets and critical services. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Powerful Insight. It's so much more effective to plan for long-term sustainability than short term reward.

Let's be honest, we already produce enough food to feed over 10 billion. The problem is the sheer volume we feed farm animals. Not to mention the water this takes and the waste they produce. The only sustainable way forward is a plant based diet.
