Thank you. I have a couple of doubts, could you kindly help clearing them please? - 05:46 you state the photo shooting took place in the summer of 1966 and took 10 days. In an article of the music magazine KRLA Beat, dated 5 Nov. 1966, freely accessible online, it is stated that approximately at the end of October, after finishing a tour of Europe, _the stars returned to New York from Rome where they made a 4-day stop-over in order to have-world famous photographer Richard Avedon shoot a 2-day session of top fashion photographs of Cher for an upcoming issue of Vogue Magazine_ It is not clear from the article whether the 4-day stop-over was in Rome or in New York, but anyway it says that photo shooting took two days and it was in Autumn. I'll try to add the link to the source below, hoping KZread will not remove it automatically. The article is on page 6. - 06:24 you are talking about 14 pages of Cher photos in that Vogue issue (15 November 1966), but I count only 8 on the electronic version accessible through Vogue's Website. Again I'll try adding the link to the source below.

Thank you for your query @doncamillof -- It was Cher who said it took ten days (in an interview with Nellie Blagden for 'McCall's' in June 1974.) Although I'd generally be more tempted to believe a contemporary report in 1966 over Cher's recollection 8 years later, I doubt the accuracy of the 1966 report due to (among other things) the date of Vogue's publication -- it's unlikely if not impossible that a major Avedon shoot at the end of October would be in print only two weeks later. Cher, in the 1974 McCall's, noted that the original PLAN was for it to be a small, 2-page shoot, but things changed once they started. My hunch here, is that the KRLA Beat article was reporting on what the PLAN was -- that she was supposed to spend a few days in New York for the shoot. But that was in September, not October. They arrived in NY on September 19th (Sonny gave a press conference after they landed.) So over a month had passed between their arrival in New York and the return to Los Angeles that KRLA reports at the start of November. The shoot would have started, then approximately September 20th. As for the page count, you are probably only looking at ONE of the three consecutive articles Vogue published of Cher in the November 15, 1966 issue: Pages 132 - 135 ("Cher wears the season's first resort knits"), 136 - 143 ("Sonny talks about Cher -- an interview with Peter Bogdanovich"), and 144 - 145 ("Vogue Patterns.") Since the "Vogue Patterns" piece is only 2 pages, my guess is THAT was to have been the original shoot. I hope that is helpful! Thank you for watching, Damion @ FrontRow

@@FrontRowVideo Very helpful, thank you. Especially the information about them returning to New York already on September 19th. That makes the European tour much shorter than I thought. Then the KRLA magazine was not reliable: in the October 8 issue they report about the European tour as if still ongoing, while in fact the couple was already back in the USA by that time. Were they publishing news with a 1-month delay?! And this German TV broadcast dated 24 September must have been pre-recorded: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nWGsychqqrKwqaw.html If you have any additional information to spare about their European tour of 1966 I would very much appreciate it as I am currently doing some private research about it. There is not much to be found online. I am specially interested in the Italian dates. The only facts I know for sure are that: - They were in Italy on September 15th to participate as guests in a local event (the _Festivalbar_ final night) - They did attend a papal audience sometimes during the tour: Cher recalls about it in the 1998 book _My first time_ without mentioning the date. But she recalls that it was a general audience, which narrows it down to 3 possible dates during their tour. Probably it was the last one: September 14th. About the Vogue article, yes I was referring only to the one titled "Sonny talks about Cher" as that's the one I found on Vogue's Website. Thanks for clearing that out.

Indeed, news was slow back then! The reference to Sonny & Cher's arrival in New York on September 19th can be found in J. Randy Taraborrelli's "Cher: A Biography" (1986.) Unfortunately he doesn't include footnotes, so I don't know his source, however additional confirmation can be seen in Earl Wilson's syndicated column, which appeared in newspapers across the United States on September 23rd, 1966, stating they had just arrived from Europe.

Interesting that the video says Cher became a star from that point on. According to Cher's own bio the late 60's were pretty low key. Sonny and Cher just played small nightclubs and had no hits. Wasn't until the Sonny and Cher show in the early 70's that she really became a star.
