I guess at the beginning the turbo couldn't figure out which direction was the correct way to spin. lol

Ever video taped a high speed spinning wheel. Frame rate creates optical illusion of spinning backwards.

@@fastinradfordable Yes that's true I guess I didn't expect that from animation software. pretty cool software.

There a good idea but in a diesel engined car they have a habit of coking up and seizing

Not correct. At low speed the nozzle schould point to the turbine

No, at lower rpms the vanes are closed and at higher vpms the vanes open more. Theyre closed at lower rpm as the angles of the vanes will redirect the exhaust gas at a greater angle

@@kashubelua Different turbo actuators work differently. The main thing to grasp is that the airstream is concentrated and creates the effect of a lower AR turbine housing, allowing the engine to spin a larger turbo than it normally would and still have sufficient power through the entire powerband. In my situation I am currently running a smaller turbo for low and mid range power, but it chokes on the highway... This style of turbo is the solution to that problem without resorting to a compound turbo setup...budget and space are both an issue...

Quite the opposite. At low speed, the vanes should be at the almost closed position then opens up as the exhaust gas velocity increases. Think of it this way: try blowing a piece of tissue paper on one breath but with your mouth wide open. Not going anywhere ain't it? Now try blowing it with the same amount of breath but with your lips leaving a very small opening. The smaller orifice of the closed vane angle produces the same high velocity effect on the turbine, which spins it fast despite having low rpm. It then opens up at high rpms because the exhaust velocity is enough to spin the turbine even with a big orifice. If it does not open, then you get overboost and may result in blown pistons.
