Draymond is the type of player whose value can only be seen by people who actually know basketball. In an era where if you don't score 25-30 a night, you're considered "trash", Draymond still manages to make an impact. And you saw it in the last two Finals games. Draymond had 12, 12, and 8 in game 6, and he was the third-best player on the floor after Steph and Andrew Wiggins.

I remember when i was younger and was reading a book about basketball and it said 90% of the game is played without the ball. 5v5 only one person can have it at a time, and Draymond communicates, boxes out, switches, rebounds, gets in passing lanes, takes charges pretty much anything and everything to get the ball back for his guys, and if he can't with his defense he forces lower percentage shots. Draymond plays that 90% aspect at a masterful level, it's unselfish players like him that set the tone, so when guys have the ball they know to make the right play on offense, because they see an absolute beast do anything and everything to get them that ball back on defense.

There should be a salary cap exception for homegrown talent, like a specific threshold above the normal salary cap that teams can use to sign star players that they drafted so they don't have to face luxury tax penalties. Homegrown teams get broken up far too often because they can't pay their star players without getting into the luxury tax, something about that should change, teams should be rewarded for drafting well and keeping them around.

But he does so many little things that go unnoticed yet has major impact on the game. Defense wins championships and Draymon is the catalyst to the Warriors defense and he holds all teammates accountable for their effort. If you want to talk about how much he should get, the question shouldn't just be 'how valuable is Draymond Green to the Warriors?' It should include 'can he be just as valuable elsewhere?' and 'will there be any team out there that thinks he can do it with them and would be willing to pay anywhere near what he wants to find out?' My guess would be no to both, which is why he doesn't deserve the max because the market matters. If no one else is willing to pay, who are the Warriors bidding against? They still can and probably will pay him a lot, just not the max. He's nowhere near a max player.

At his age and production, there's a huge gap between what he would get in open market and what GS would be willing to pay, never mind the actual max. I mean, if he won't accept anything but max money but Warriors aren't willing to pay it, what are his options especially if Warriors are still willing to pay a good chunk more than he would get elsewhere? That's how NBA market works. They aren't stupid and they aren't going to bid against themselves or only do it to a certain point if the player is really important to them.

Dude had 15 points and 17 turnovers 4 games in to the finals. Steve Kerr didn't want to be down 1-3 in game 4 so he took Draymond out of the game, doing everything he can to win, and it paid off because they actually had 4 shooters + better rebounder instead of a huge offensive liability out there. Fouled out in his 5th game and almost fouled out in his 6th with 7 turnovers total. He makes his team play 4 vs 5 on offense every possession. He was getting outrebounded by superior bigs and looked much worse than Looney out there. He was emotionally out of control and begging to be ejected. He played so bad the Celtics analysts and fans didn't want him ejected. The Warriors in the beginning of the season when they had the #1 defense rating was actually better with Draymond off the floor. He was in the worst defense rating lineups. People don't realize Steph communicates on defense as much as Draymond. Steph and GP2 finished with the best defense ratings for the season. Compare this with Gobert who consistently puts his team to top 5 defenses but without him, they're in the bottom 3. The difference in impact is enormous. All in all, he is worth 15 million at best. He is already locked for 27 million the next season and claims he wants 35 million when he gets to age 37. That's absurd. He's not getting any better, if anything he has been on a fast decline since 2017.

He knows who to pass the ball to and when. During the playoff Poole missed a shot he gave the ball right back to him. Why? He knows that could have been a confidence killer and he knows Poole can make that shot. Happens all the time. I have heard him tell Steph in the middle of the game when he miss a shot. Get it out of your head on to the next. Steph sees Klay having a bad night he passes the ball to him and he keeps passing until Klay confidence is back up. Step passes the ball to everyone on the court. These Guys are selfless it's not about them. Steph is down the court just as fast as Dray. During the Maverick's game the announcers were talking about Luka how long it takes him to get down the court. Warriors is a well oil machine no other Team does as good as the Warriors. They all know their assignments and they stick to it. Plain and simple. Every team needs a Dray and a Steph to keep their team flowing.

Lets be honest 1/3 of nba teams are pretty stupid. I’m not saying I could do the job better, but a lot of there year to hear decisions just don’t make sense. example: PHX why not just pay Ayton? Why’d you need IND to offer him anything? Especially if you were going to just give it to him anyways? Logically its just weird.

It's weird how people overrate draymond, if it wasn't for the heroics of steph curry in game 4 in the finals. They wouldn't be champions. Draymond was costing so hard. He even admitted he got saved by steph. The only game he played good was game 6. But then again we perceive it as good but it was actually just an average performance. Just in comparison to his previous games

Draymond Green is the best defender on the team and is a former NBA Defensive Player of the Year. Add to that, he rebounds, he passes well, and he's a smart player. Is it no wonder he thrives with Curry and Thompson.

The game is more than points and flashy plays. It’s the dirty work that’s not sexy that ppl don’t think matters is why he’s so valuable to this team. Now Lacob, I don’t think will have a problem giving him another max deal bcuz he wants to win and is trying get the tax penalties changed. If it were me owning this current team, I’d give him a 3yr. max extension. It’s my money and he’s been a very valuable part of four rings, so I reward that.

I disagree, without draymond the warriors would have an average defense at best , and because so much of the warrior's offense is created from defensive plays, their offense would also be much worse. There's no debate that kd is a better player than dray, but Draymond is 100% more valuable to the warriors than kd could ever be.

Perspective is warped here. Its the whole moneyball scenario all over again. In the terminology of that book Draymond "doesn't have the body of an MLB player" and the old scouts overlook him. With all the advanced metrics we have today they still don't quantify this type of stuff well and neither do scouts. Draymond was fortunate to be on the team he was on at the time he was or else he'd be in Europe and not a 4 time nba champ which is wild.
