Correction: Lockheed-Martin's Plant #4 has only been property of Lockheed -Martin since 1993 when they acquired General Dynamics Ft Worth Division, which was Convair until 1953 when GD took over. My Dad was an Engineering Chief for GD having worked there for 38 years. He met my Mom out there, she was in the Steno pool. My Great Aunt also worked out there when it was Convair as a Key Punch Operator.

The F-35 fleet is the gold standard of flight readiness (upwards of 35%) and low maintenance times (for each hour of flight, there's a day or more (24 hrs) required to get back in the air). The F-35 program is so cost effective the 6th Generation plane to replace the F-35 had to be cancelled. Our enemies couldn't have done better than Lockheed Martin at kneecapping our country's military.

Why don't we go into greater detail so that we can give our adversaries every opportunity to grow their technological capability with as little innovative effort as possible on their part!!! This is really interesting information, but we are giving away the farm!

Everybody can purchase an IPhone and dismantle it to its single tiniest component, but nobody can make a functional replica of an IPhone without knowing the advanced technology behind it. So no need to worry that the adversaries can duplicate an F-35. They could have already produced a fifth gen fighter, if they had known how to do it. So this is impossible for a long time. This is my opinion.

@@Ali_Ercan China's Chengdu J-20 5th generation fighter has many of the F-22 features built into it. Is it as good as an F-22? Probably not. But if they make several hundred more than we do, in the long run do the deficiencies make that much of a difference?

I agree but I think our adversaries know as much about the planes as we do. The one caveat is they don’t have the knowledge, resources or the people qualified to replicate our systems. Probably what is described is approved by the military. Top secret developments and capabilities for the planes are not talked about.

Due to "economy of scale", what with EVERYBODY buying them, they aren't all that expensive any more. A new f16 costs 30 million naked and about 70 million with all the bells and whistles. Whereas, a new f35 only costs between 70 to 100 million. So I would ask: if your government gave you 100 million to spend on new aircraft each year, would rather have two excellent, but last generation f16s or one top of the line f35 stealth fighter? I think the problem with availability in the States is that EVERYONE is buying f35 and there are more orders coming in than can reasonably be manufactured.

Where do you have the information that all the branches need or want the STOVAL version. Just asking since the Navy have large enough ships to buy the F-35C and USAF don’t need STOVAL for its operations and would actually be hindering them because F-35B and C are heavier and have less G maneuver rating than F35A.
