How UConn Attacked UNC's Defensive Switches

Спорт

Last week, Kansas handed UConn its first loss of the season. KU bothered the Huskies by switching all on-ball and off-ball screens 1 thru 4. Now this week, UNC tried to replicate Kansas's success with a similar defensive gameplan. This time, UConn took advantage of the switches -- scoring 1.23 points per possession against the Tar Heels.
This video breaks down UConn's offense against the switches.

Really good video analysis! It really shows how UConn is extremely difficult to defend - they are patient to wait for the defensive mistake/offensive upperhand and are afept at finding the open man. Across all of their games so far this year, there are so few offensive possessions that result in a poor attempt to score.

KU fan. You definitely did not get your asses kicked if you had a shot to win at the buzzer. Good luck.

Love your videos and I just came from the Kansas/UConn one and I know you're a Kansas fan so congrats on that dub. Allen Fieldhouse sure as hell is a hard place to play and if you noticed UConn ran seemingly no real offense for the first 17 minutes of the first half because no one could hear anything in that place, it was so loud. If you watch the tape back, from about 3 mins left in the first half through till the end of the game, we ran everything down the side of the floor Danny was on so they could hear him call the play. Either way I gotta tip my cap to Self's game plan on D, it worked really well and the crowd brought it. Hopefully we see you guys in April! Love the videos and keep up the awesome work my friend!

After seeing how many missed wide open 3's there were in the first half, this could've been a 20-25 point dub......

Damn Uconn runs a beautiful offense. Karaban, Spencer and Newton aren't super athletic i dont even want to imagine what Hurleys offense would look like with elite athletes who could shoot.

to be honest, we have kind of seen it already - in the beginning of hurley's tenure, he was recruiting ultra-athletic guys who didn't always have the passing ability or bball iq to execute some of these sets. the results weren't great. when he changed his recruiting philosophy and started looking for guys like karaban, who is an incredible shooter, passer, and cutter, but a mediocre athlete and defender, everything changed. hurley can still coach these guys to play extremely hard on defense and the glass, and they can execute on the offensive end.

@@josephkatz2704 He wasn't running most of these same sets his first few years at UConn. He revamped the offense with Luke Murray after the NMSU loss. Karaban was already on the team then, just redshirting.

Have you looked at the box score? UConn shot worse than UNC from 3 and hit 32%. They missed a ton of wide open 3s as shown in this video lol. They had a stretch to start the 2nd half where they caught fire, but that was after going 4/16 from 3 (25%) in the 1st half on mostly wide open looks.

@@BrianKervick Yeah they missed a lot of wide opens, but I’m pretty sure Spencer and Solomon made difficult 3’s in the 1st half, not completely wide open ones.

No dude.. Castle was out, Clingan and Spencer both were hurt, shit, Spencer got hurt during the game, the guy was literally limping trying to play. Clingan and Spence hit their free throws and UConn wins. Goes to show, a healthy Kansas beat a hurt UConn team by 4 AT HOME! Not even being biased or talking shit but it's the truth. Self and his bad toupee know he got away with that one. Good game either way. No team beats a healthy UConn.

yet you're leaving out Uconn's 4 last second 3 point attempts with 1 second left on the shot clock? lol of course. Kansas defensively was incredible. If newton doesn't have a career game with a mostly luck and Kansas hit's their free throws down the stretch, Kansas win's by double digits. You can justify and make excuses all you want, but an injury that requires some Ice for Spencer after a game isn't going to work LOL you guys took an L. Also, if you think castle was going to make any impact whatsoever as a freshman in his third game ever, you're crazy. Kansas was better, hands down. Uconn was going to lose a game sooner than later. Im not even mentioning that awful calls against Kansas when newton kicked his feet out on two different occasions that got called fouls for 3 point attempts. I was at the game. it was blatantly obvious. I think Clingan is extremely overrated against good bigs.
