How Tractors are Built! AGCO Factory Tour!

How Tractors are Built! We were lucky to get a tour of the AGCO plant in Jackson, MN. Watching the tractors in the process of being built was incredible. I hope you enjoy the video as much as we enjoyed the tour!

I am a 5th generation family farmer from West-Central Minnesota. The recent interest in food, combined with a large amount of 'misinformation' has driven me to start this channel. I hope to be someone people can relate to and trust when they question how their food is grown and raised. I also hope to become a 'smarter' farmer through my experiences with this channel. I strongly believe we must have an open mind and a willingness to learn about others, or we cannot move forward as one. My goal is to build the connection between farmers and consumers by facilitating a collaborative conversation amongst everyone. I do this by sharing my day-to-day farming experiences, my opinions on certain topics, and occasionally visiting other farms and businesses to help better understand other farming and business practices. There is no limit to where this channel may go, so please join me!!

I like how they have headsets so everyone can hear what he is saying. No yelling required and no one asking him to repeat something. These are smart people.

Never noticed before, but at 15:38, the center-back of the three engines you see on stands, is one of the SISU-designed AGCOPower 16.8 liter twin turbo V12's that go in the high horsepower articulated 900 series and 800 series track tractors. Super cool!

Lucky kid, getting the plant tour. I hope you encourage him to go into every plant presented to him. From about his age, my dad got me into every kind of plant for tour, that we came across, be it gypsum, gold refinery, petroleum, silicon foundry clean room, sawmill, lumber mill, steel mill, plywood mill, auto assembly line, various mineral mines, gas-fired electricity plants, military bases, cotton gins, spinning mills, weaving mills, you name it, and those plant tours had a profound effect on my direction in life. And, yes, my dad was a farmer, too, beans, rice, cotton, and he bought us cattle to tend to in our teen years, kept us in much trouble... angus, happy, dumb as bricks, love to break out and eat young, sprouting beans..

This video reminds me of when I worked at a smaller scale Emergency Vehicle assembly plant in western WA. I built and installed the 'made to order " custom wiring harnesses for ambulances. It was fun, we worked very well together and had amazing owners who always came by every morning and said hello to everyone. Great place to work before I started my own Automotive shop. Great video !!!! I haven't watched all of yours yet, but im working on it. Thanks for the trip down my own memory lane!

As someone who has worked in manufacturing for twenty years I have to say this facility has an excellent product flow. Very impressive quality system with timely feedback. Also, the floating of labor is a huge benefit. Building each tractor to customer spec and no batching is so awesome to watch. I would work here in a heartbeat.

That was pretty cool! I remember once touring a fire apparatus factory RD Murray, when they were building our ladder truck. Kind of amazing how they did it all. Each unit is unique, as they're all custom built, so a lot of parts were fabricated as needed out of raw stainless steel. It wasn't on this scale, but it was similar in how it was laid out and done.

You are absolutely right. The fact that the line builds one tractor at a time, not the same tractor over and over. Someone has to work backwards to be sure all those different parts arrive where they need to be in that 2 hour timeframe to be assembled. It makes my head hurt just thinking about it.

That doesn't seem very logical. Anyone off the street can take this tour of their facility, so how does videoing it prevent "the competition" from simply taking the tour and learning said "secrets?" It doesn't, because you're not going to learn any of ACGO's "secrets" from a factory tour. Everything you see here is what they want you to see.
