How Torsion Works! (Structures 6-3)
Tubes carry torsion and here we see how they do that, why little changes can mean they won’t do it as well, and how we can use torsion to design interesting structures. Enjoy!
I'm Paul Kassabian. I'm a structural engineer and a Principal at SGH in Boston, MA. I taught graduate students at MIT for nine years and currently teach on/off at Harvard's Graduate School of Design (GSD). These are videos based on my years of teaching structures to students.

Very nice video..couple of minor points. The final example the base rod is under both bending and torsion when it supports. The is very important to emphasize since we rarely get torsion without also bending
Truly, you are amazing and your passion for structural engineering is both incredible and inspiring. You have acquired an impressive set of skills which enable you to simulate and analyze everything around you. Your deep charm shines through in your ability to use small-scale objects to represent and describe the behavior of full-scale structures. Keep up the fantastic work!
almost forgot to say your channel is awesome
Great Video! Can you also make a video on Shear and Bending Moment, it would be really helpful. Thankyou!
i would have loved a more detailed exploration on the topic but still thanks btw you interested in deflection or can u make a video where you teach us how bridges are designed like a tutorial? i will love that
Thoroughly enjoy your videos!!

Great - you're welcome!
What about truss design and optimization for torsional rigidity?
Sir would u like to upload design of structures?

im sorry, but i dont undestand it very well .

Yes, the last part with two cantilever attachments is less understood to me either. But the torsion explanation with paper pipe -closed or cut open - makes really understand torsion well.
