No. Tamil industry was bigger than Telugu in 1980s. Mani Ratnam started his Pan India reign with his film Nayagan in 1980s. So from 1980s till 2014 Tamil was bigger than Telugu. Then in 2015 Telugu became bigger than Tamil. But in 2016 Tamil became bigger than Telugu. In 2017 Telugu became bigger and in 2018 and 2019 Tamil became bigger. In 2021 and 2022 Telugu was bigger and in 2023 Tamil was bigger than Telugu. This year Telugu rocked and Tamil industry is shocked.

​@@aasamspb967 RGV made Shiva in 80s & he was the first pan India director. Then he went on to shake whole Bollywood with much ahead of times film making. So it's Telugu industry that started it.

You might not know this, but the Telugu audience never saw this as a competition. I didn't know that Surya, Kamal and Rajini sir are Tamil actors until I was 14 years old.

The reason they were big is because in Telugu we love Kamal sir Rajini sir and suriya sir from as early as possible but Tamil people still don’t accept any Telugu film except prabhas we see every movie we made premalu a Malayalam movie super hit I don’t see Tamil people doing the same

@@Flicky_flub The section of people that watch bollywood movies in the telugu states prefer to watch it in hindi itself, its always been the same. general telugu audience who watch it in dubs, depends on the movie and its connectivity with the audience. Brahmastra had so many problems there.

As a Tamil guy I can surely tell that Kollywood is going to face a huge downfall. They would never encourage youth talent and always bank on the same old stars. I recently saw Allu Arjun who is a super star attending behidnwoods awards function and also touching his teachers feet. You can never expect the so called Kollywood super stars to attend these kind of functions. Ajith doesn't even attend his own movie promotion and I am not sure if he that big star in the first place! Vijay has his own limitation and does not promote his movies in other languages. Telegu and Kannada stars are more humble and easy to work with which is the reason they are producing block busters. Rajamouli could have easily gone to direct Bollywood movie and earn more but he decided to make all the telegu heroes as pan India super stars. From a directorial angle, Shankar is a total disappointment for Kollywood. Just look at the star cast for Indian 2. No other pan indian super star other than kamal. You can't give blockbusters in the current era with just one known face and age old storyline.

Sivakarthikeyan movies are well accepted here in telugu states.. people are such in telugu even if the movie is average with decent story line the movie will be hit here.

Tamil industry can never grow as long as they keep living in their regionalism mindset trolling & not supporting other industries which dream big taking big risks. Growth is a collective effort. It can't happen, if we belittle others hardworks instead of acknowledging them. For a tamilian, a copy made from Telugu industry only with their hero is a masterpiece but not the original film which made their hero copy it in the first place.

Did any of the actor say anything bad about tollywood? The thing is our actors are not much interacting with the audience. Vijay is going to politics,ajith is slowly declining, rajni and kamal would be retiring soon too due to age factor. Tier 2 actors only give us films,not doing much for the promotions.

Dude Malayalis support all movies. You just need to promote well. Kalki is doing well in Kerala. Salaar did quite well in Kerala. RRR, KGF 2 are blockbusters. Bahubali 2 collected 75 crore from Kerala. We also support Tamil movies too. Malayalees troll bad Telugu movies. But we also celebrate good Telugu movies. You can troll our bad movies too. Nagarjuna is the first pan india hero from south. Nag have immense craze and popularity for his movies in hindi before bahubali itself but he just not interested to showcase that like kollywood actors.

I remember some of Hindi heroines refused to work in Telugu industry but in Tamil. Tamil got an advantage of having diaspora outside India. Then Tamil industry used to show pride even though all industries of south started in Chennai and later Tamil industry inherited that. That way few advantages to Tamil industry. Not to say that Tamil industry is not worthy. But the prejudice used to manifest in multiple ways. I remember when Bahubali released, some people used to say, why this movie not made in Tamil. Same pride/prejudice shown by Bollywood, so called. As Chiranjeevi mentioned in one of the events that in movie history of India no Telugu actors mentioned. Only Hindi actors and few Tamil actors. Lot of things can be quoted, but we should treat every industry with respect.

Telugu stars are handsome with pan-India looks. Tamil heroes are not good looking and Tamil films do lot of over action and excess nativity theatrics , which will not appeal to audience worldwide. So they know people will accept good content movies. As a ordinance we know on a final day we don't get single paise in our pocket so we don't worry about box office collection😂😂😂. Kollywood people are so fanatic about their heroes , language and state … Telugu people are the exact opposite.. They welcome other languages and cultures ( sometimes more than their own … which isn’t good either) . They always claim Vijay is a pan India star … Can’t recollect one movie of his which did well across India… Only Rajini & Kamal were the real pan India stars . Madhavan & Dhanush keep trying but they lack star power. I’ve my own doubts about Indian 2 getting accepted as well as its prequel.. Apart from that there aren’t really any pan India movies in their kitty .., whereas from TW there are so many like Pushpa 2 , Salaar 2 , Spirit , Hanu man 2 , Kalki 2 lined up .. From the days of all the South Indians being addressed as Madrasis .. it’s time each of the states have their own individuality.. Sandalwood is also making its presence felt. Kollywood and Mollywood are still stuck with being too self centric and regionalistic, though some of their movies have great content.. Not disrespecting but telling the truth that Kollywood will fade-out soon. Because tamil actors don't take risk to come up with new ideas and content. look at telugu actors like prabhas did back to back more than 300cr+ budget movies. Weather it is flop or hit atleast he's taking risk, that no other actor do. and i think no Tamil actor take risk like him.
