    In the literary word, these tips really work for inner monologues as well. Having a character talk to themselves and have an inner debate that leads to a monologue really needs these parameters as well.

    So my monologue started out as a poem...but now it is 20 minutes long! it is also an musical (2-3 songs)...Any suggestions?

    Great video but I do have a question. I totally understand why and how a 60 second monologue is likely to be far better than one that is two or three times as long but if the monologue is not simply an exercise for an actor's audition but is a one character play (I am thinking of eg Spalding Gray's Swimming to Cambodia) can't a monologue be 5 minutes or ten minutes - and if written with an interesting enough voice, twenty or thirty minutes?

    I randomly decided to write a monologue purely because I'm bored and wanted something to stimulate my imagination (writer's block idk). I also wanted something nice and close to heart to perform someday (yes I perform monologues for fun).
