    Thank you for this video!! School counselors will literally make you feel like there is little to no life outside of nursing school. How discouraging?! Your tips were well developed and spot on! At the end of the day juggling nursing school with personal life and working full time will be difficult, but with skills like time management, prioritization, and delegation (for moms/dads and spouses) it can be done!!

    I know LOL everyone that I would see online would talk about how hard and time-consuming nursing school is. I am in a full-time, accelerated program and I am still able to have a social life and work full-time. I don’t want to mislead anyone… Nursing school definitely is challenging and time-consuming.. some semesters are definitely worse than others. But if you have good time management skills and you are disciplined with your studying schedule, you can definitely juggle other things along with nursing school!

    I had always wanted to go into the medical field. The career paths/end goal for me were either paramedic, working in an emergency pre hospital setting, or working in some kind of trauma center in a hospital. Nursing seemed enticing as a path, because I have a wife and children to support. Thank you for sharing your experience and motivating me with the possibility of pulling this off. Very kind of you.

  • @theluckienurse

    I always knew I wanted to go in to healthcare too.. I think that nursing is a great career path in healthcare because you will always have a job, which means that you will always have a way to support your family. Plus it is SO versatile. Once you get your license, you can practically do anything with it. If you get a job you don’t like, you can change your specialty. If you need to cut back on hours, change your hours, or work from home, there are so many jobs that will allow you to do that within the profession. Good luck!

  • @jesstiss222

    @jesstiss222

    2 жыл бұрын

    I have experience with all of those and would be happy to share some guidance, from my 23 years in Emergency Medicine. While being a paramedic is my work passion, going the nursing route affords me all of my work and life passions. I always encouraged (begged) my EMT partners to become RNs first, unless they were going to be firefighter paramedics. Once you earn an RN, you are able to challenge the NREMT exam and become a paramedic. Then you have the best of both worlds, without nearly as much struggle! I would STRONGLY encourage you to get both your EMT and CNA credentials and start working as *both.* Start looking into nursing school programs and work on your study skills and prerequisites. Be sure to know your A&P super duper well, which is even more necessary as a medic than a nurse. The CNA, A&P, and prerequisites will help you get ready to apply (many nursing schools are beginning to require CNA experience and entrance exams like the TEAS or HESI). This will also help you develop your study habits and get your family adjusted to you being a student. The better you can develop your study "muscles," the far better chance you have of earning competitive grades and getting into a nursing program. It sounds like A LOT but it will go faster than you can imagine so start NOW and thank me later lol. If you can, keep working as an EMT especially if you still want to become a medic. It will make you a PHENOMENAL nurse and is absolutely necessary if you want to be a good medic. Plus you will have the opportunity to work alongside some amazing paramedic clinicians, who are abused, way underpaid, and burnt out working insane hours to try to support their families. Ask them if they think this route I'm suggesting is a good one. Phenomenal medics rarely reach the $30/hr mark (probably way less most places smh) but even a crappy new grad nurse can easily make >$50/hr. Also, check the job listings and compare the pay and number of opportunities. Once you pass the NCLEX and get your RN, just keep studying for the NREMT-P exams and Boom! You've got it made! If you want to be a trauma nurse, your EMS background and skills will fast track you to that and, if you want to still moonlight as a medic, become a CCT nurse or a flight nurse, you can do all of that! Sorry, I know this is super long but I really hope it's helpful. I have big love for my EMS roots and do not want to see my peeps suffer unnecessarily. Get the nursing bag and do whatever you want from there. But whatever route you choose, start now and just don't stop! You'll be there before you know it. Best wishes!

    Thank you for watching my video! Honestly, it will depend on your learning style and your schedule. All of the online classes that I have ever taken were mostly self taught. I know that some of my classmates do not do well in online classes at all. You have to be very disciplined and have the ability to teach yourself, and then go back and study the material that you have learned. If you are able to do this, I would recommend online, or a hybrid of in person and online. It will save you a lot of time in commuting, and it will allow you to be at home with your family more. However, if you are somebody who learns better in a classroom setting being taught by a professor, it may be worth the sacrifice to just do the in person, daytime program. I definitely learn better in the classroom setting, and there are courses that really should be taught in person, like pharmacology. It just depends on you. Also, at Chamberlain even though some campuses have the evening and weekend program, there is not a hybrid between day and evening. You are either fully in the daytime program and all of your classes are during the day. Or you are fully in the evening and weekend program, and all of your classes are in the evenings and all of your clinicals on the weekends. Hope that helps!

    I’m starting back nursing school in February to continue where I left off, I work full time as of right now but I’ll have to switch back to part time and my boyfriend works full time and we also want to move out my parents aren’t so keen on me moving out and going to school at the same time but my boyfriend will be paying the higher bills because he’ll make more than me and I’ll pay the smaller bills… what are your thoughts?

  • @theluckienurse

    Congratulations on starting back with school!! And also, congratulations on having such a supportive unit behind you in both your parents and your BF! To be completely honest, I’m with your parents from the little info I have from your comment. Starting up school again is going to be a big adjustment in and of itself. And then moving is a big adjustment- especially moving in with a BF. If your parents are helping you emotionally and financially right now, my thoughts are that it’s probably better to stay put for now. But I will say- I bought a house with my now husband when we were just engaged. I had not started nursing school yet but I knew I was going to enter nursing school in the near future, and I was taking pre-reqs. My family all advised against me moving out/buying a place with my husband if I knew I was going back to school and I did it anyway and I’m SO glad I did. And now my parents tell me that they’re glad I didn’t listen to them lol ultimately, you know your situation better than anyone else. So if you really think it’s a good move, I’d say go for it!

    I am VERY fortunate that I live near a school that had an evening and weekend program. Do any programs near you have this type of option? If not, are you able to look for other jobs that would also allow you to go to school?

    Hey, there are so many jobs that you can do! This will probably be my next video! If you are certified, or willing to become certified with a license, you can become a nurses assistant or patient care tech. If you do not have a license and do not want to get one, you can do something in administration!

    Having to work full time while in a program is very difficult, but not impossible! Do you know if there are any schools with an online program near you? If not, would it be possible for you to get a night shift position that would free up your time during the day?

    I have class week nights after 6 pm and then weekend clinicals. Clinicals can be Saturday or Sunday, and they can be 8 hours or 12 hours (it depends on the course). Depending on what class I’m taking, weeknight classes are usually 3-4 hours once or twice a week!
