Thanks for creating this video. It's very helpful for the beginner and I especially like how you took the time to show multiple ways of cutting the ornament out.

DeepDelusion Hi - My goal was to release by the end of the year but need some more time. Even though its taking forever to complete I feel everyone will learn a great deal and be pleased with the two part how to carve a hound dog video from scratch. I have about 3 more clips to film and then edit the 2+ hours of footage. My new goal is to complete within 2 weeks. Hope I can meet that. Happy New Year! -Joe

The best tutorial I've seen yet on carving. He shows different techniques for transferring patterns and sawing out the basic shape that make it easy to do without expensive equipment you may not have. He shows the "trick' to using a coping saw instead of a scroll saw. He even shows using carving chisels to remove the blank. An excellent video, well worth watching... Thank you, Mister Splinters!

Edward Deerly Thanks for the nice comments ! Im so happy to hear that my videos are helping you learn. Feel free to email me any questions that you may have. Its been a couple years since I was able to release a new video, but Im happy to say that next week I will be uploading a 12 minute video titled: Mister splinters covers the four basic wood carving cuts. I am also working on a video on how to wood carve linked chains - but I don't know when that's going to be done. - safe carving Joe

Hi - I use a sSeyco Excalibur 30" scroll saw. I bought mine in 1996 so I'm not sure if seyco still makes it. I do see an Excalibur 16" throat model on wood crafts website. safe carving-Joe

oh, please, use a 720p camera. So it's HD; would make the video so much better. So you can see the grain and generaly makes everything look nicer. :)
