Hi Laura - Thanks for the nice comment! Welcome to the awesome hobby! Did you watch the entire 4 parts of the video? Also beginner carvers seem to like the how to carve a basic owl video that I posted. Feel free to email me any carving questions that you may have. Safe carving - Joe

Thank you so much for posting this video series. It was very enjoyable and educational. What do you think of the Helvie knife you were using to carve?
Very cool ! I've been carving the basic owls for over 3 years and made over 75 of them. If you check out my website you will see a bunch of different versions of the snowman ornament. Plus pictures of my sleepy owl carving. Its another fun project thats straight forward to carve. I show how to carve the sleepy owl in wood carving illustrated summer 2012 issue 59. Safe carving and thanks ! - joe PS: In WCI winter 2013 issue I have another article coming out - its a ball in a cage-in a cage
You tube wont allow me to post my website in the comment field. BUT if you watch the first part of the snowman ornament tutorial it appears on the bottom of the screen for about 10 seconds. Its about 1 minute into the video. thanks - also If you click on Mistersplinters and then click on ABOUT my website is listed on that page.
Thanks for the nice comment - I'm glad that u enjoyed the video. I love Helvie knives. The one that I use in the video is my oldest. I believe its 7 years old now. I own over 20 Helvie knives. The blades are thin and super sharp so be careful that you don't damage it by carving very hard wood and or hitting a knot in the wood. Thanks for the comment - safe carving-Joe
