How To Wire A Turn Signal Circuit From Scratch [2021 Follow Up]

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is a follow up video for my previous video on wiring turn signal circuits. Apparently I was not very clear in that video and saw in the comments that there was some confusion, or possibly (probably) people giving advice on something they know very little about. Either way, confusion or troll, I hope this helps!

    I'm glad I could help! Turn signals are on of those things people seem to think are overly complicated. But they really aren't all that complex once you see what the circuit looks like.

    There are SO many ways to wire turn signals. What you put out here is one of the simplest and easiest to wire and is a good example of how to wire them. Those that can't expand on what you showed here and figure out how to make it work on their project should not be trying to wire anything. Don't worry about the keyboard warriors, you could go through all the different ways to wire these and someone somewhere would find a way to nit pick it.

    I think people were confused because they're probably thinking of the wiring where the flasher and relays are separate but your method using the combined module on a bike is 1000x better 👏. Well done.

    I think that is where a lot of confusion is coming from as well. I found that this method is better because it essentially combines two different modules into one unit which saves space, time, and work. Not to mention troubleshooting should anything stop working.

    I would suggest soldering for a road bike. Or a way of crimping that I prefer and have never had any issues with. It's similar to factory crimping. In the video I just used butt connectors to demonstrate the circuit itself. Not how I would advise joining the wires in a real world application. So I will do something for you and your boys and make a video showing the 3 methods I use to join wires, their pros and cons, and in an order from no solder to solder. Give me a couple days and it will be up.

    Hey bro so I ordered a 2 prong relay so it’s self grounded but my tail lights are 2 wire so would you recommend grounding out my lights at least? To be on the safe side

  • @ThrashTestDummies

    @ThrashTestDummies

    3 жыл бұрын

    If they are 2 wire running lights and turn signals then they are self grounding. Meaning the body of the light is the ground. If they are meant to only be turn signals then yes, one is a ground and one is power from the relay. An easy way to test it is to hold a ground to the bolt of the light, then put power to each wire individually. If nothing happens it is only a turn signal. If you get two different "brightnesses" then the light is self grounding and the wire that controls the dimmer of the two needs constant power, and the brighter goes to your relay side. Let me know if you have anymore questions. I'm glad to help.

    Hey man I'm working on a Honda Shadow. My front turn signals are also my running lights. And my stock turn signal switch is a 6 wire and I'm wanting to switch it to a 3-wire. How would I go about using my front turn signals with your setup (obviously more tightened up) but when the turn signals are not on, the running lights be on?

  • @aaronpavey1224

    Pretty much I need my switch to be set up for when it's in the center/ off position I have power to my running lights and when I click my switch left or right it's shuts the power off to the running light and activates turn signal. My front turn signals / running lights have three wires that go to it one is the ground one is the wire to activate the turn signal and the other one is the power wire for the running lights. Currently when I hit my left turn signal or right turn signal it kills the power to the running light wire and gives power to the turn signal wire

    The first thing that I would check would be the wiring. It sounds like it is tied to a constant power source such as your tail light. Make sure the positive going to your light is coming from the turn signal circuit.
