How to winterize a Sea-Doo (PWC) S1:E18

Well, it’s that time of year again. Time to winterize! It's I sure sign summer is over. We here at the Personal Watercraft Channel have set out to help you with this process. In this video we winterize and service our 2021 Sea-Doo GTR 230. This machine has 40 Hrs on it this year. Keep in mind this machine has never been in salt water and we flushed it out prior to bringing it into the garage to shoot the video. We leave the battery in it for it’s in a somewhat warm garage most of the winter. If your machine is going to sit in the extreme cold take out the batter and leave it somewhere warm on plywood not on a cement floor.
This is how we do it others may do it differently. We have never had issue with this procedure. Be sure to use biodegradable antifreeze only.

I am no brain surgeon, but what I always do when I am taking bolts/nuts out is simply lay a big towel across/under the area where you are working and taking the bolts out. Doesn't matter if it's a jet ski or a car. If the bolt is down under, you lay the towel under neath or on the bottom. If the screw/nut falls to the bottom, you simply fold up the towel the best you can remove the towel. Odds are the bolt/screw will be in the towel. Trust me, it works and works well.

Do not put more pressure than the supercharger supplies. 10-15 Psi only. Plenty to blow the water out. Also you could simply start and blip the throttle there is plenty of exhaust air flow at 4K RPM to clear water from the exhaust. Do not exceed 4500 RPM when revving out of water with no load, impeller is left threaded and can unspin. If you want to remove water leftovers from water box, simply undo the clamp from the water box rubber hose and insert oil evac pump you use for oil change, or small shop vac to get rid of all the water leftovers from water box. Keep shop vac away from engine bay to prevent shop vac sparks from igniting combustible fumes inside engine bay.

Here's my worry. You're not supposed to tow with the engine off without pinching the water line due to the possibility of water being forced through the exhaust and into the cylinders. You put antifreeze in and then chased it with air. What keeps it from going into the cylinders via the exhaust on cylinders with the exhaust valve open?

  • @hydraulics

As someone who lived in Albany County, I can tell you I put the antifreeze in and then cranked the engine to get it thru the engine. Then put in some more. It's not going to hurt anything and better safe then sorry. I also fogged the engine too. Then I put one big silver tarp over it as well as a jet ski cover under it. We got a lot more snow and cold then you do. The more weather you can keep off of it, the better. I put the tarp on tight to keep as much moister out as possible. Definitely bring the battery in. If it's inside it will be fine. Maybe once over the winter give it a charge but it won't need much. Then charge it again just before you are going to use the ski. Ski had been out in 20 below winters. Never had a problem come first time using it. May have had to push starter button to crank it a few times, but that was it.

@@denniswilder3014 Oh, Sure the impeller can unspin. And No, you can't run as high as you want without the load. it can unspin for sure if RPM is too high. Also happens when wave jumping at WOT, the RPM limiter kicks in and acts like an impact drill with fast load no load, When revving to high on the trailer with no load, when you close the throttle, the impeller has enough inertia to unspin. Some times its so bad it can chew the wear ring, in worst cases impeller will move the engine shaft so far back in, it will destroy crank bearings.
