    I dumped the propane for heating in my camper and installed a Webasto diesel heater. If I run it 24 hours a day I get 4 days from 1 gallon of diesel. Well worth the $1,500 for the unit, tank, and electronics. Total game changer. Now one 20 pound propane tank will handle the fridge and oven for about 5 plus months. You may dig it on your rig.

    Glad you added the advice about having a backup for heat. In winter I would also say that you should have an extra sleeping bag. We have a very old but very good down mummy bag that we inherited from my FIL. I always pack that and it makes a great bolster for reading in bed and I hope I never have to take it out of the storage bag, but it's there to keep us from freezing if something goes wrong. Even at home, we have had all sorts of problems when hit with subzero temps. (Er, that's like -2 degrees Fahrenheit for us on the archaic system of measurements.) Add to that an accumulation of snow and ice and everything just gets difficult or even dangerous. We like our Wave 3 to keep us warm without using any battery but prefer to go where we can plug in and use our little electric heater.

    Good morning from Godley Texas, I run all terrain 10 ply snow/mud tires. I have a Wave 3 that does a great job in my Capri Cowboy. The Wave 3 burns about 1/4 pound per hour on low. I have no running water, but can drain grey sink water into an external container. Good information for someone thinking of winter camping for the first time. Live life to the fullest. Stay safe and happy travels 😎

    My 08 Lance basic camper is good to about -7 until the water lines freeze .I installed a wood burning stove was about the best thing I ever did , even though I was hesitant at 1st to cut a hole in the ceiling. The dry heat is so nice & dries out wet gear easily. I been in -22 temps & toasty warm inside.. The only problem with wood heat in small space is it can get too hot & cold quickly when the fire out, so a diesel heater be sweet if had both.

    I hear you on wood stove! Ambience would be super nice on a snowy day too! I may have to install a diesel heater to help out I think in these -30 temps.

    Yeah dude! The wood fire is dat chit! Would dry out all your board gear fast & its like sitting around a toasty fire outside. I only use propane for the fridge & LED strip lighting uses very little battery . Now I just need to build a flat deck with storage boxes & a all season camper @@KevinWaldsAdventures

    Hey man You should grab yourself a Cheap diesel heater Get one with a Y pipe so you can still direct air to your dump station. You will find you'll save a lot of propane and I swear by those diesel heaters I've had one in my motorhome for 6 years now never even cleaned it out I run it on thermostat mode so it goes high when it needs to and stays low when it's done it'll keep your dump station perfectly warm and it'll cook you out of there if you want it to lol Oh and they sip the power compared to a propane furnace you'll get much more out of your batteries without charging all the time

    @@KevinWaldsAdventuresHi Kevin, i have the same camper but it’s a 1999, i plan to install a diesel heater but wondering about the space to install the unit and the diesel tank to feed the heater.

    I was thinking propane heat adds water to air, this is not the case. But my biggest winter problem is the propane tank itself freezes rendering 1/2 of the tank useless when cold. ( also freezes from decompression taboot)

    Good video, thanks for posting! Question: Do you have the ability to monitor your solar wattage? Are you getting anything from your panels? I've heard that winter output for panels without snow on them, is 5-20% of rated output when overcast.

    Yes I do, its a renogy mppt, I get maybe 1-2 amps on a clear day, we only get sunlite from 9am to 430pm right now, so its almost not even noticeable amps going into my battery bank.

  • @Chris-ut6eq

    @Chris-ut6eq

    @@KevinWaldsAdventures Thanks for the reply! 1-2amps is ~12-30watts, which in a 10-4 at say average of 15watts is about 75-90watt hours per day. That's probably just enough to keep one LED light going for 12-24hrs. Total panel wattage? Non-tilting panels? I'm curious as I'm doing power planning and want to be able live in the camper for four seasons. Ideally without a generator so need to size solar plus at least one other power source (most likely from vehicle alternator).

    @@KevinWaldsAdventures Perhaps a future video on your solar system and thoughts on 4-season power needs? Electrical power budgeting and planning is something people can easily overlook. We all get so used to grid tied homes which allow for thoughtless consumption. off-grid use, as you know, requires planned use of a limited resource.

    ill add it to my list of videos to get out! alternator charging (dc to dc) is honestly the most efficient in a vehicle application in winter, as you can get very powerful dc to dc charges that supply reliable constant power and all while you drive to the next destination!
