Thank you for all your videos about wing foiling and happy new year. It helped me a lot. I have now 12 or 13 sessions and I started to fly with confidence on flat water when the wind is strong enough and regular. I agree a lot on the importance of gear for beginners. I am above 170 pounds and I started with a foil of 1600 sq cm for my 4 first sessions. With your video and pratice on beach the Wing manipulation seems easy for an old windsurfer. I was able to stand up to take off but I felt every time. Then I spent holidays in a club. They gave me a 2000 sq cm foil and on the second session I was able to fly several seconds. On the session 5, I have done more that 500 meters in the air. I was definitivly hooked.

Good to explain the degree of where to go withing 90 degrees of wind direction (which was my problem, alsways going downwind). And the tip -- "you have to feel it for yourself". Love both your teaching styles.

Bought all my gear, including 5mm neoprene all over my body and just had my second session on the lake. The air is about 8C and the water around 6C and it's wonderful being out doing this. I've been watching every video out there and of course all of your videos. It's been such a great help. I have no experience whatsoever on the water, so yes it's challenging. But boy is this fun! Do you think ist makes Sense to just buy a Wing and Start handling the Wing on the Beach ( in Austria its quite cold now around 2-5‘ Celsius)? A 5 Meter (female, 75 kg) Wind is Most of the time around 6-10 knots- or Better 5,5 m? For windfoiling I usually have the 6,7 m sail. Best regards Renate (Greifenstein/Danube)

Beginners buy big board and big foil, but what next? what size of board (yeh, it depends about ur weight) and what size and what type of foil (HA or LA). More aggressive wing or ? etc.. Something what floats you and which front wing give u speed and lift. Cheers!

I would like to add a suggestion for protective attire for beginners. 1. O’Neill 2mm front zip sleeveless wetsuit. Not too hot but protects the shins from foil. 2. Copperfit compression socks. Can be worn under wetsuit and adds more shin protection from foil. 3. Bodyprox protective knee pads. Slips over wetsuit legs and adds comfort for taxiing on knees. 4. Mystic booties 5. Midwest Max Grip gloves (Lowes, $5.98) because you will grip too hard at first I’m 61 years old and this helped the comfort level.

I'm 62 years old in good shape. I have surfed off and on since I was in high school. I ski and snow board. But have no kiting, or wind surfing experience. I would like to try either wing foiling or sup foiling but listening to Gwen he makes it sound so hard that it discourages me at my age. What is the easiest way to learn if you don't have a boat to learn behind. It does sound hard because you have to learn to sail and foil at the same time?? I really do like your videos and have been a subscriber for quite some time. Thank You

Gary 100% I would recommend Wingfoil. SUP foil is a little tricky to learn right off the bat as you are not in control of the swell. Still possible but harder. WINGFOIL you can learn the wing and use it as leverage to get up on a foil and you are in control. Go for it you will love it.. Get yourself a wing maybe do it on your skis to help learn the basics then you can get the foil/board and enjoy it in the water. My thoughts. We have some discounts on gear in our description. :)

@@DamienLeroyKZread Thanks, I forgot about that one. I remember watching it back before I started. With my setup, moving the mast all the way back is what finally allowed me to fly the foil in a controlled way as it provided the least amount of lift. Just like you said in the video if the board is jumping up out of control, move the mast back. I think putting the mast all the way back in the tracks is a good starting point for beginners. Place your back foot just ahead of the mast and slowly move both feet back a little at a time until the board gently lifts off. Less lift is easier for learning. That's what you want in the beginning.

  • @martinomovies

If you’re over 190 pounds, you need a 6m wing, especially while you’re learning or if you live on a lake. Also, novices should realize that after they become proficient at sailing the board upwind, they don’t have to consciously think about how to steer the board. So one of the most frustrating parts of sailing becomes second nature.

Lots of people are using boards with much more volume because they are so much more stable and forgiving.

Nothing wrong with this Raphael just makes it easier to learn. Makes the learning process faster.

I agree. I can't imagine beginners struggling with a small board with little flotation.

Damien and Gwen would you try to not yell into the microphone? You have a mic on and are still very loud. It sounds like you are out of breath. I really like your videos except the audio quality. You have very good microphones try a conversational voice the next time.
