Wen I was young, In our neighborhood we had a friend , his name was Emil, nicknamed The Sandman .He was as a short guy 1,78 m 105 kilos something like that, buff . He did some boxing in Bucharest in the 80's, but i don't know, if it was from his boxing skills, ore natural power gifted , but I so guys , from 1.90 meters, to 2.00 meters tall, falling down hard, from his right, or left punch. And he was quick to, one to the body, one short to the face. That's why was called the Sandman. So everything is possible :=))

@Kyle Howell bjj isn't suitable in self defence. Only useable if you find yourself unwittingly on the ground and someone already has hands on you. The other good thing about lifting one leg and going forward is that you also create distance and give yourself options for when they get up.

Hey tony, just wanted to say that you’re a god send mate. Your KZread content has helped me get mobile and fit again. I was out of work with a really bad hernia all throughout covid waiting on the surgery list. Two years I Couldn’t even walk let alone work or workout. Post surgery I came across your videos and started to rediscover my love for boxing and training. I was meant to attend physio therapy but instead opted for following your videos and putting your free content to work. I’ve been back at work, healthy and most importantly fighting fit. Not only did your content help me get back on my feet it’s also helped my mental health, get into a routine and gain more discipline! I just wanted to say thank you, I know you’ve many of fans but I can’t help but feel the need to personally thank you mate. Going for double leg or single leg can be really dangerous if you've not practiced that properly. He will instinctively grab your neck into guillotine and while you drive him down you'll fall with him head first to the ground. Happened to me many times doing bjj. It's not that bad when it happens on a soft mat but I definitely don't want that to happen on a concrete.

It is different in BJJ or Judo session as you expect a takedown; you are, in the end, practising grappling. Thats why here's the idea of pretending to punch. If you pretend the punch in the face but go to the legs instead, the opponent will most likely cover the face, and bring the arms a little bit up. Hence, the opponent will neither see you going down nor even react properly.

Definitely want to drill your double legs a couple thousand times correctly before trying in on the street. As someone who wrestled in the past, the takedown is an excellent way to stop a bigger opponent, especially if you stand for just a moment after the feint and get the bully to commit to a punch, as they are then almost completely defenseless against the takedown.

  • @THaNaS1s

    @THaNaS1s

Really bad idea if you haven't actually trained takedowns. You may telegraph and if the other guy is big he could barely spraw and you may not be able to finish the takedown. You may also get elbowed in the back or get chocked. Only if you have trained that is an option.

@@THaNaS1s Excellent point, and that's why I trained takedowns as much as I have. Just a general point for anyone else who has self-defense ideas: As Tony Jeffries and StaThan have implied, there are risks in any plan one may have in dealing with a bully (You usually don't have the luxury of knowing the bully's combat experience), and you should probably use something with which you have some degree of proficiency as much as possible.

Very good. Avoid attempting a takedown unless extremely proficient at this technique. If not executed correctly you will receive a very hard knee/boot in the face. Also best avoiding going to ground in public street if you can. Your best defence is always situational awareness as pointed out. Avoid confrontation if possible. On many occasions you will get an indication trouble is brewing...this is your cue to leave post haste.

lot of what you are saying makes sense. and I'm glad you point out that the best thing to do is put your hands up and run away if you can. but I also like that you point out that running away is not always an option and say why not. However as far as fighting itself. while your second technique of feinting right cross and delivering left to the solar plexus or the liver makes sense and can work against larger stronger opponent, a double leg takedown is good if it is you who are stronger or in better shape than the opponent. if you use double takedown against someone who is stronger and more athletic than you then you better be very good at takedowns or be able to surprise him. takedown requires lots of power even if you have flawless technique if you are facing someone who is stronger than you. especially if this person is also more athletic heavier, and knows how to sprawl. takedown is a good technique in a street fight if you are a good wrestler that is definitely true. but not if you are facing someone bigger and stronger. punch is not a great defense either if you don't know how to punch, but if you do against someone who is stronger than you the second technique that you showed the punch to the solar plexus is a better option in my opinion.

Tony Jeffries using his BJJ "baiana"! Good to see. Everyone has their own approach but taking a boxing stance would be my last "do or die" option. As soon as you take a fight stance then it's "game on" which is what I would want to avoid. As Tony said if you are not a good Bob and weaver then it's just better to have the hands up high with palms out to indicate you don't want to fight but ready to catch a haymaker or shield against multiple punches. When I spar (light contact) in MT I always allow my opponents to throw multiple shots as I shell up to see if I'm covered up and either practice going to clinch or pivoting out if I'm "against a corner". But many people who want to know self defence are not interested in learning martial arts so I would say learning to shell up against multiple punches and either clinching (head next to their head and clinching the back of their head or overhooking their arms) are the two most basic fight moved that work in simple self defence.

  • @MrDblStop

If you want to get your face bitten off. And if you've overhooked someone's arms and you're free to move they have no defence against a short cross or hook. Obviously illegal in boxing, but for a self defence situation it's an option which is worth training for in sparring.

Very small targets. Hard enough to hit in training let alone in a real situation for a frightened amateur. Or even a frightened experienced person. Adrenalin is a heck of a thing. Keep it simple and brutal. If you haven't got the cojones to do someone real harm then work on that attitude first. Martial arts are about skills and growth, but self defence is about knowing that you are the one walking away from that situation.

Solid advice mate. In Wing Chun, we would use the attacker's momentum against them and strike the throat, or neck or temple.

I've seen you recommend a straight right to the solar plexus. What fo you think of a right uppercut to the solar plexus or a liver shot instead?

Im sixty and Irish im 5+9 high and 11 stone as a young man id fight for money, now im old and i always find to act weak then get the first punch kick or swipe in. Always strike first if you're opponent is bigger and stronger sometimes the look of surprise is worth it. Ive never started a fight in my life, i have a duty to defend myself for my family needs and loves me. If someone wants to beat you the only thing that saves you is surprise.

Im an ex fighter and I wouldn't recommend throwing a headshot. I'm with you right to the end where I would feint with the left hook and then fire a right cross to the solar plexus. Incapacitates without the risk of serious head injury.

Road House.. Sam Elliot's kick to the side of the knee. Not had loads of fights, but in a bar in the USA three guys started on me and the Mrs... genuinely all were taller than me. Kicked the first guy in the side of the leg he tumbled, managed to clout the second guy, not a great punch but the shock of that and his mate going down were enough to stop him and the third guy who didn't even try anything. Walked nonchantly out of the bar with the Mrs... and then as fast as we could once outside! :)

Target the solar plexus after feinting the first punch. Since it will stun the bigger guy. The solar plexus is under his chest and in the middle part
