I know most people do this, but it’s wrong. Many say that you can whitebalance off anything neutral, which you can. But it’s not going to get 100% pure white balanced. Do one with a Grey card and one with a white card and compare the two. Basically, Grey card is for exposure, white card for white balance. And if you have a pro level camera, you use a black card for black balance. 99.999% get this completely wrong, and they teach it to others who again teach to others. Do it right and teach it right.

Hey I find that its always better to white balance video with a grey card. If your white card is over exposed or clipped you run into many more issues in post. Most cameras are designed to be able to white balance from a grey card as long as they are around 18% grey.

Editors Keys that’s why it’s recommended setting exposure first, and then whitebalance. And it’s actually better setting whitebalance at a clipped white area compared to a non-neutral grey area.

Yes defiantly, we were having issues with skin tones and it def helped. The AWB is quite good, but if you’re planning on doing colour correction then I think doing a white balance is a must.

Hello, thank you for video. What about picture profile. I must use nonprofile, whitebalance and custum profile, or i must manual white balance on custom profile? Thank you. And why not White Card (just Grey) for WB?

A great question, yes you can use this even if you’re not using a profile and I would always recommend white balancing if you can. The grey card also helps with exposure but can also white balance to

This is only good in a situation like this where the camera isn’t constantly moving . But looks great in a still location

Yes if we're doing a serious shoot we'll white balance on each shot (if we move location or if light changes.) For regular stuff outdoors we leave it on auto mode.

Great video! Is there a way to lock the White Balance on the Sony ZV-1. I’m a trainer, and while I’m moving in my studio, the balance continues to adjust. What can I do using the Sony ZV-1?

Hey yes that is possible, I think you press the FN button go to white balance and then scroll down and you can set it yourself. I would recommend getting a grey card, if you search our channel we have a video on grey card white balancing

do we fist adjust the exposure of the camera (iso-apperture etc) and THEN the white balance, or first white balance and then exposure?

probably if exposure is wrong, super dark, or super bright, lens wont be able to read the grey card accurately i assume. yeah probably first exposure then white balance

Hey yes it’s quite subtle as the AWB does an OK job, but if you maybe look at how dark the background looks or the colour of the white shirt.

I also don't see as much different with the same subject in frame. However with AWB if you go in and out of frame/focus sometimes the camera will adjust white balance while recording. So fixing it on an intended space for the talent can be helpful to lock it down at the "right spot".

Yes we’re finding the A6400 gives off an unnatural pinky skin tone at the moment. We always have to pull it in a lot in FCPX, but sometimes after upload its much more red, so we’re working on this weekly to try and improve it.
