A year ago i watched this 4 min video and learned how to whistle. I watched many videos explaining how to do it a none helped me understand at all. But after watching this video and 1 year of practicing and experimenting on my own without any other video I learned not only how hit them but how to do runs, staccato, and also phrase. It’s not easy by no means but this is the video i would recommend. Thank you so much Sean!!!!

I’ve been trying this for almost a year and I still can’t reliably stay up there or move around when I hit it. I can’t tell what I’m doing wrong but I know one thing for sure is that I struggle to even sing f5 upwards without straining, and especially struggle to do it with vocal fry. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong? Another thing I wondered was whether I was doing the vocal fry correctly, because he said that some people just sit on top of it without supporting it, which I didn’t really understand :(

@@0mnom all I know is that I had to practice that almost everyday for months. It was the first thing I did waking up (which btw I tend to the highest when I do it right after waking up than I normally would) and I did every chance I had even when I was at work 😂 Plus, being a huge Mariah Carey fan also helps since I see what she does and learn how not only does she use them but when and why. Her musicianship on the whistle register is otherworldly and she’s a perfect artist to emulate. Being very persistent can go a long way. I hope you’re able to do it soon, don’t give up on it.

  • @samueljohnson9566

My advice is to not focus on your throat. Rather than even paying attention to your vocal chords being in your throat, imagine they're in your chest. Send any tension you feel you need there and use your proper support muscles to push through that tension and out your nose. Sing with your nose and upper two thirds of your face. That sounds REALLY fucking weird ik but it works for me EDIT: I meant that your vocal chords are in your neck/larynx area, not throat exactly. My bad

4 months in, and I accidentally hit an A7 (can't hit it anymore LMAOO) My comfort range is around C#6-G6, I usually add more pressure anywhere higher than that, but not too much that it hurts, and it's hard for me to hit anything lower than that, so my whistle range is A5-A7 I'm not sure if anyone else experiences this, but I have off days, sometimes my whistles are harder than usual days, and sometimes it's easier, but it's pretty easy to hit, it does need some light pressure but it's not really anything painful unless it's like a B6 and higher, and tbh I don't really know if my voice will improve beyond this point, but I'm just happy that I can hit them at least

dimash is a prodigy, i recommend you to start with Ariana Grande, her whistle notes are the easiest. i'm not saying dimash´s vocals are impossible, but they are really hard and even more if you don't have a good control with your whistle

it is. so many people learned how to whistle and able to do it. as i understand it no classification of singers are barred from whistle register because we all have it. It's just not in demand like the expert singers who can bend it to their will. it's similar to how we scream and that happened uncontrollably. These singers however can 'scream' but gently, control it and enunciate with it. It's truly a specific set of skills.

Lilly you are probably doing it incorrectly your throat should always feel relaxed. Think of a yawn in the back of the throat constantly while doing the excersise. You want to keep a low larynx position and slowly release the air pressure

I can’t really keep it consistent. Like I can hit the note but running vibrato through it doesn’t always happen. It feels like there’s another spot in my throat where air is escaping, like there’s air coming out of two parts of the bottom of a balloon and it gets rid of the purity of sound.
