Great video - there isn't much discussion about balance rings online but your video is concise and clear.

I just had an unbalanced washer. IT IS A MAYTAG purchased new in 1988. Wonderful equipment..My balance ring was a solid ring filled with what felt like a type of concrete, not liquid. It was intact but it was filthy and thick with what looked like mud almost 1/4" thick. I cleaned it off as well as all the mud and filth in the tub and now it is perfectly balanced. Ditto to the commenter who said a diagnostic video was needed but the people making the videos have something to peddle to you and just want to sell to you, not help you. I hope this helps someone. Washers can be sensitive to even small amounts of weight, just like tires.

Just spent about 4 hrs trying to get the balance ring BACK ON... Hubby said that YOU were wrong, and you can't turn it clockwise, it would have to be counter clockwise because of the way the plastic teeth are. I watched your video again...went in and turned the balance ring OVER, and it went on just like you said it would...CLOCKWISE and easy peasy!! THANK-YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!! GREAT VIDEO!!

A before and after video of the vibration would be extremely helpful in diagnosis. I'm fighting an older Maytag but maybe's it's just normal.

Ok, but HOW, do I test my old balance ring to see if it needs replacing? My machine jumps all over if it gets over a small load inside. The springs are fine, and the balance ring sounds like it has water in it. I would like to know, if the ring is my problem, before I take this thing apart like this.

i thought the water got in the balance ring. so i drilled two holes and drained out the water. after that, my washer went out of balance like crazy. i didnt know. i ended up throwing my kenmore away. big mistake. i love that machin. had it for 14 plus years. its built like a tank. the only repairs were the cycle knop and the agitator. easy fixes.

Yeah, we get a lot of people asking if water got inside the balance ring and they should drill it out, but that fluid is made inside of the balance ring to help balance the loads.

I just did the same exact thing.no joke.seemed like a common sense thing to me.ill just drill one back out and put the water back. Distilled seems like the common sense thing but I'm not sure any longer that I have any.

This balance ring looks different than the one listed for my Whirlpool model LBR5133AN0. That balance ring WP3956205 has no notches or clips visible from outside. I can’t pry it up from the inside & I would have to remove outside translucent cylinder that surrounds the tub to pry balance ring from the outside.

If the balance ring isn't faulty, there's no need to replace it, so you could put the same one back.

The ring is filled with liquid to help with balancing. If it is damaged and the liquid dried up it could cause balance issues.

So.. This Ring mus be filled with water?? That´s can be my problem of terror Shaking on centrifugal cycle.. Long time ago i note this was filled with low liquid unbalancing the machine , so i drained all.. Can i re-filled and sailed again??

  • @appliancepartspros

Yes, the balance ring is filled with fluid to help balance the machine. That will definitely cause the machine to go out of balance. By draining it, the part was damaged beyond repair, so it will need to be replaced.

It definitely could be. We offer free technical advice and diagnosis, so if you want to make sure that's what you need before you buy the part, you can give us a call at 1-877-477-7278 or you can chat us at our website: www.appliancepartspros.com/. One of our agents can take the model number, look up the schematics, and talk you through any issues or questions you may be having. To answer specific questions about specific models, we would need to know your model number so that we can consult a diagram of your unit.

After replacing the motor, springs, belt, and water pump, it still spins out of control. Can it be this or the snubber ring? I have a Maytag MAV408DAWK

  • @appliancepartspros

    @appliancepartspros

    7 жыл бұрын

You are right, it could be the snubber ring or the balance ring causing an unbalance issue. The snubber ring for your model is here www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-snubber-wp21002026-ap6005786.html. If it needs replacing, you may be able to see white plastic shavings under the unit. I think I would try replacing this first. The balance ring in your washer is incorporated with the inner tub, which has been discontinued by the manufacturer. It may be possible to find this part used through a local salvage company or a used appliance parts retailer online.

I have a LG WT4970cw that stops at the spin cycle, then displays UE I have replaced the 4 suspension rods and the entire gear case with no luck. It still grinds whenever the motor gives power, such as load sensing. The splines on the pulsar and tub looked ok, what do you feel I should replace next? No one will repair LG in my area ;(

Check the magnets on the rotor for cracks. If not that, then it may be a bad rotor position sensor.

Do not try to get the liquid out of the balance ring. That's what helps it balance! You'll seriously damage your washer if you do.

What is the reason for replacement of this part..it just full of water right..??? I have a machine that is bouncing back and forth during spin....and I think it is the long rods..with the springs, supporting the tub...but I cant find or get any info on this..as to what is should be doing so I can test it...if someone knows please tell me...thanks.

The part is supposed to be filled with fluid. It helps keep the load balanced in motion. Sometimes, with age, they can crack and the fluid can leak out - or, sometimes people think water is trapped where it's not supposed to be, and they even drill a hole to let it out! In these cases, it would need to be replaced. We'd be happy to help you figure out what's causing your bouncing washer, but we'll need some additional information about the model and the problem. You can give us a call at 1-877-477-7278 or you can chat us at our website: www.appliancepartspros.com/. We will need the model number for the appliance, so that we can look up diagrams and information about your specific unit to give you accurate advice. You can look here on our website to help you find the model number: www.appliancepartspros.com/modelnumber_locator.aspx
