    I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who does things the hard way! I too use Meguiar's Mirror Glaze and Ultimate Mirror polish to make all my cars and musical instruments look like brand new.

    just make sure you have enough coates laid down. Use a very light touch the model will tell you how hard to push but be gentle like you're kissing your sister. I remember being very heavy handed and burning through but then I saw just how effective finesse can be

    I just bought a similar rotary tool (although the one I went for has 5 speeds, rather than 3). I also bought similar buffing wheels, so hopefully it'll be ideal for polishing clear coats! Hopefully it'll arrive in the post in a few days!

    It came today! I've only tested it so far on some plastic teaspoons I had painted and clearcoated a few months ago for earlier painting tests, but I'm pretty happy with it so far. Mine is an SPTA branded one, 5 speeds and goes down to 3000 rpm :-) I also bought the same scratch-x and and polishing compound as you use @N.Y.S Modeling!

    Dumb question im sure but can you spray clear coat on a new diecast car? Like say I buy it, unbox it and immediately want it to have a little extra clearcoat. Can I just spray it on the car and let it dry then polish that later on? Im always worried being new to this that ill take too much clear coat off and it just makes me nervous polishing.

  • @NYSMODELING

    The thing about putting more clear on it is clear coat is thick. And the thicker it gets harder, it's going to put on your additional parts such as headlights or your penalines will get filled up.

    I know it’s hard to resist but let it dry 24hrs… I go as far as 48 hrs just to be safe. I ruin models back in the day handling them to early. And that was just for assembly, imagine wet sanding

    @hhaste if I do, I'll surely knock them off while polishing. I've discovered using diluted alcohol to clean glue points since you responded. So I polish the car minus wings, fins, mirrors, protrusions of any kind and the clean and attach after. So far nothing has fallen off any cars

    Question. I’m new to this, and only have access to 1000 and 2000 grit. Can I get away with just those? Then follow up with a polish? Thank you for the video and keep posting! Also, do you wet sand the entire body?

  • @Ryan57Garr

    @Ryan57Garr

    Жыл бұрын

    Stick to only wet sanding the larger areas. You want to stay a way from edges, small details and body lines because the sandpaper will quickly sand through the clear coat in those areas. I think you can get away with using only 1000 and 2000, but you’ll have significant polish work to do afterwards to get rid of the haze. Good luck!!
