How To Weather a Freight Car - Atlas Multi-Max Auto Rack in HO
Фильм және анимация
A quick how-to video on how to lightly weather a freight car and add realistic graffiti! All of the techniques used in this video can be done at home with easy to find materials. The clear coat used in this video (and on all of my models) is Krylon Crystal Clear Matte (#1311).

This is very well done! It’s great to see someone else doing graffiti WITHOUT decals!
I love how calming and relaxing these video are. I look forward to them
I recommend the graffiti that’s America’s urban art. Seeing a passing train without it wouldn’t be the same
Nice simple quick tutorial. Using the tape as a template was a good idea .Thanks for sharing.
Very nice video. I like the masking tape template trick. Good idea. I've been doing my own graffiti for years now. With a 10/0 paint brush and fine tip sharpies
I'm honestly just here for the trains

Great tutorial. Love. How you masked off the graffiti. Great idea. Thanks for sharing
Excellent tutorial! Short and to the point!
Very nice technique Josh, I like using tape for patching and covering up locations I do not want to mess up on.
I love watching your how-tos. You do things simply, MR often over complicates things to the point that it's a 27-step process to do anything.

Agreed. Those are usually older modelers who have to take it slowly.

@@AbelG8781 I feel like it just makes it more confusing and less approachable though.

EXCELLENT DIY video!
I love to see that 8099 being the only HU I’ve ever seen, Anyhow great video and I would love to see a operating session of trains up and down the layout. Please do a operating session.

Richmond Railfan 8099 is my only Hu too, but something he should do is on the left, he needs to fade the southern text, like the real 8099
Please tell me where you get the “railroad guitar” music you use. It give such a nice feel to all your videos
Doggone it Josh you always make everything look easy and turn out cool looking!!!

You make it look too easy ! XD awesome job !
Great video and tutorial!
Love it. Great job.
Really Helpful, looks great also.
So what you recreated is known as a “piece” they are big full of color and shadows and take the most time, a “throw up” is similar but typically alil smaller and more rushed work, sometimes they won’t even fill the letters, thats known as a “holo throw up”, and “tags” the most common are the super fast basically just a signature with maybe the crew they run with next to it, would love to see more graffiti videos, its popular asf rn and you’ll probably bring in some new viewers
Also, You can Do this to your BNSF ES44DCs (7600 & 7700 series), GP40s, GP50s, GP60s, Union Pacific SW1500 (SP Patch), GP40 (SP Patch), and SD60M locomotives as well.
Nice Love the Sou Unit.
Nice job 👍
Been using this concept for a while now. Rustoleum and Krylon Short Cuts make a good spray paint. Molotow paint markers are excellent as well as Uni-Ball Gel Pens and Black artist pens by Faber Castell. What is the next freight car kit? A 60ft Southern Bulkhead flat car 114150-114349 with the truck skirts and its shorter cousin 116000-116199 with long extension couplers. They were built by Greenville Steel Car in 1972-73.
AWESOME! Notification squad
You gotta do some marcher arrant graffiti hes a legend lowkey
Nice!
Another excellent video! What about a 1970 era video on Graffiti? They weren’t nearly as talented in the day....
Awesome video josh! I need to get me an airbrush one of these days... Ive heard it helps with weathering. Hey, question for ya. Do you ever go down to the Apple Valley model railroad club in hendersonvill? or ever have open houses of your layout?\ One last one- Do you railfan asheville yard?\\
Nice video NS! -Railfan_Post
Can you film an operating session? Would love to see one from perhaps a few stationary cameras. Give an idea of a full coal uphill and empty return along with some local action.
Very nice tutorial..Thank you
After you painted the trucks and wheels did you clean the tread of the wheel that runs on e rails? That is much easier than taking the wheels out and put in a wheel mask for painting. Good video! 😎 Thanks!
great video! what color did you use to weather the trucks?
What’s a good technique for using spray paint on the trucks?
Nice tips.
You should check out Al's monster railroad channel on graffiti pretty awesome he takes real tags on real cars and does em on the model one's.
May I ask do u do any scenes with snow covering for winter
What color of paint was you using to weather the trucks and under side with the air brush?
Why is the music in the end so bass boosted
Are there certain types of spray paint I need or will a spray paint from Lowe’s or something work?

Actually, I think all those spray paint cans were from Lowe's. (I just don't buy the very cheapest ones). Tom (Josh's Dad)

Josh and I go to certain train shows, and at every show we have seen what we call "cheap cars" which are normally quite old, missing parts, and lacking details. They typically only cost 1 to 3 dollars a piece, but they make excellent cars to practice and perfect our painting and graffiti making skills before we do it on our nicer and more pricey cars. And by the way, most box cars make a great canvas to work on! Good luck and have fun!
What airbrush do you have?
Do the same thing to a Scaletrains CSX autorack
Graffiti ho scale atlas gunderson multimax autorack on KCS
Did you ever consider modeling graffiti artists in the act in your layout?
If you dislike,you are psycho
Hi
Ironic. You used spray paint to paint graffiti that was created by spray paint... That’s a tongue twister :)
Nas Wagen Model Grafitii
Graffiti or "rail art" is, in and of itself, neither good nor bad, in so far as model railroading is concerned. Rather, like dust, rust and grime, it's something that is just there, something that rolling stock just acquires over time. If you want to model realistically, you should include at least occasional graffiti on some of your cars, as part of the weathering. It does add individuality and distinction to a particular car. On a side note, relative to graffiti, a railroad manager once remarked to a fellow club member, while we were on a fan trip to a local short line, that the appearance of graffiti told the railroads that their dwell times were too long, and in that regard, it served a useful purpose. Barely!
I could not have done any better on a real train car with a can of Krylon.
How to vandalize a freight car.
Not really much of a weathering job as it was a graffiti how to.
i really hate the graffiti. I know some people want the "real" look but it's so ugly in real life...and modelling.
