How to Wear a Cycling Cap

Bobke TV I just picked up a 7 eleven cap just like yours at the Toronto bike show! I was telling everyone how cool I was but they wouldn't listen.

Lucky Nigelv, wish I had a chance to get me one. Did you happen to see also 7 eleven jerseys?

No jersey and only one cap.

shouldn’t have to tell people how cool you are. If they get it they get it 😎
Great video as always, always thought that you were the best guy on the 7/11 squad when I used to watch you guys in my younger days. Listening to you is like listening to my favorite uncle telling stories! I mean that in a nice way! Any way keep up the good work.
Smooth move, Bob, easing out an original 7-Eleven cap, smooth like a low rider on a Saturday night in San Jose. Love it. And maybe one should wear one to get a Slurpee?
Timing was perfect. I'm wearing a cycling cap at this very moment. I typically wear one to cover my messy hair first thing on a weekend morning as I make my coffee.
I don't know where I would be without you Bobke.
Great video Bobke. Keep em coming !
Just ordered mine... can’t wait for the nice compliments 😉
I loved my cycling cap when riding the Southern Tier, west to east. Those early mornings with sun in eyes were killler until I bought a cap in Texas and donned it every morning as we headed out. I look like a doofus with it off the bike but it's terrific for fending off sunrise rays and anytime rain!
Love it Bobke......LEGEND!
Love the cap! It's always a strong look at the cafe ;-). Serious question: What percentage of crashes or injuries were head injuries back in your days of pro riding in the peloton - with no helmet?
You made my day today Bob ... ha ha ...you rock !!!
I'm not sure if you covered this subject yet Bob, but how about a video on sun screen. Summer is quickly approaching, opportunities for long days on the saddle, thanks, love your show!
Best cap ever! Question: cotton or synthetic...which is better?
Oh yes, the cap from back in the day. I must have about 50 or 60 of these cotton beauties (all different team names) in my collection. some go back to the early 70's when I started riding. Back then we used to wear only these on a training ride, no helmet. Not anymore! I also love keeping one in my jersey pocket so when I stop for a beer, at a local roadside eatery, I can slip it on to shade from the sun. They are also good for yard work and hiking. Hey Bob, how about adding some of these caps to your Bobke merchandise? Just a thought. Hey, anybody remember the winter wool version of these caps?
You need a bit more "luft" on the cap, for the post ride coffee. "Luft" is key
I wore a cycling hat in elementary school. Hadn't worn one until I started riding again in my thirties. Takes me back to my youth
Bob, you didn't answer the most important question. Riding in the cold (no rain) with the cap under the helmet - brim UP or DOWN?
Thanks Bob!
Fun video... good stuff
Retro 7-Eleven lid is awesome Bobke...
Thanks bro!
I'm looking for a running hat that doesn't fly at the first gust of wind. I need it to keep my long hair at bay. The cycling cap seems comfortable to me not only because it shelters from the sun and is elastic for my head volume, but also because it seems that the design of its sunshade is made to collect less wind. So, is it a good idea?
nice i just want to get one because of how cool they look
Love Bobke
How about adding a Bobke cycling cap to your merchandise shop?

Great idea! Bobke cycling cap plus a 7 eleven cap too kool!
Just bought that same cap 2 weeks ago on amazon 🤙
Southern Ontario there is no option November to May you have to wear a skull cap under the Helmet as the cold is intense with the wind on the head. Should on bought it years ago finally did last year and can ride my bike in the colder months.
I watched american flyers movie and kind of like those hats plus im weekend cycling warrior im picking one soon
I love my cycling cap collection. I wear mine under helmet on colder days and I use classic headbands on warm to hot days

On hot days, I turn the cap around under the helmet to keep a bit more sun off the back of my neck.

@@kd5nrh now I just use headbands all the time . During winter a headband that kinda goes over the years. But yes I turned my caps around also.

@@briancartoscelli8029 if it gets cold enough, I'll use a thermal swim cap under the helmet and a rain cover on the helmet to block the vents, but that usually doesn't happen for more than a few days in this part of Texas. Sun is a much bigger issue here.
Fashion is back 😊
advice for the women with a ponytail. I have cut a ponytail hole in the back, kinda destroys the cap though. also brim up or down? aesthetically speaking, when riding.
Perfection!
BOBKE, you didn't mention, that many times, the cap is worn with some loft to it, a pouf on top.
Hay Bob- How about wearing your 7-Eleven cap backwards under your helmet. It's a routine that I follow often for (1) keeps your head warm in the winter (2) with the the backwards fit, the brim will keep the sun off your neck. But of course the cool effect applies ether way... Cus the sun is always shining with your "7-Eleven" cap on.
very cool
I want to like wearing a cap with the brim down for rain protection but after about an hour or so the front of the cap starts falling down farther so that I have to crane my neck in order to see forward! I end up having to remove the cap and stick it in my pocket. Seems to happen no matter how hard I cinch the lock down on my head.

You need a bigger head
Hey Bob. You and I share the same hair style. So, for me, a ride of any distance requires something covering my head besides my helmet lest I burn patches of my scalp. So I often wear my cycling cap under my helmet. However ,I wear it with the brim out the back since out the front obscures my vision. Doing this requires flipping the brim up which, of course, displays the logo on the cap to whoever you just flew by. Or, in my case, it's for whoever is about to pass and drop me.

There are caps with no logo printed either on top or under it. Perhaps that would be more of your style.
Waiting for that MSR re-Cap

My cap must be cheap...it leaves marks in my forehead. LOL. Maybe I have a big head?
Did you or do you lift weights?
Too KOOL!!!

Lazer Z1. Great, comfy and light. :)
i wear a cap all year all rides under the helmet. it helps keep the sun out of the gap with glasses. #panachepower
I've been using a welders cap
"Cap-tivating"- very good!
Yeah, maybe another stylie option would be to rotate the 7-Eleven cap; so, the peak is covering the neck from the sun, too.
Great Bob!! But what about the two ways to actually wear the cycling cap once you're ensconced in the ''café'' and having a ''beverage''? 1- peak down: I'm a mean, serious, road-hungry SOB cyclist. 2- peak up: wow, I'm glad that ride is over ... waiter, another beverage please!!
Sweet cap
You want to climb like Coppi? Well Brim must be up lol

your a cool cat,Bob.
I wear my cap under my helmet on cold mornings..
😂 wearing it on a date
There are cycling caps with crash protection.
I like to wear my cycling cap on the trainer. It collects the sweat. I will flip the brim down to let the sweat pour off away from the bike. :)
Oh so that's how that thing is used.
Bill up is the only way to ride a cycling cap. Even when worn under a helmet.
Training alone on a lonely farm road with many years experience is ok for cap alone, no?

John Riggs not in my opinion, almost worse. I had a friend go down helmetless on a descent lots of road rash but fine. Same friend (he doesn't like helmets) went down with his friend on the beach his friend was also helmetless and ended up in a coma. Sounds dramatic but it happened. Sometimes the slow falls have a lot of damage.

Why are you looking to not wear a helmet? If anything for me my helmet actually makes my ride better. Shade a place for my glasses, and yeah safety.

I'd say not wearing a helmet is a terrible idea. And what's the issue? A good fitting helmet is comfortable and also now a days they weigh only aprox 200 grams. You may want to not wear a helmet in some rides but you will want to have a helmet on 100% of the times you're falling down.

I hate wearing a helmet. I know what the consequences could be but I still choose to only wear a cap. I'm old school and back when the cycling cap was invented it wasn't meant to be worn with a helmet. The short bill was so you can see better in the aero position. I like wearing a cap because it helps divert the sweat dripping out away from my glasses and keeps sweat out of my eyes. When I wear a helmet sweat always gets in my eyes and burns like Hell. So since I don't wear a helmet I hope that if I ever am involved in a serious crash it is something I don't survive. We all have to go, I might as well have gone happy while riding my bike. By the way, you could slip in the shower and the end result would be the same as a fall off you bike. You going to start wearing helmets in the shower?
Cycling cap must be worn with a pouf on, in other words, it needs to sit high on the head with airspace for your hear. Kinda like a bakers cap.
Velominati rule #22 Cycling caps can be worn under helmets, but never when not riding, no matter how hip you think you look.

Amen to that. I literally just made a similar comment.
I wear cap, brim down under my helmet to help shelter my nose from the sun.
A peaked cap keeps the water off my glasses!
and those who have a pony tail? :D
I have an collection of caps... My rule is not to be worn unless in a kit..
Very CAPtivating.
Hey dude how come you dont reply to everybody who reaches out to you on here. Like wtf
Great Video Bob. But don't drink all the cycling helmet cool-aid 😮 . Helmets should be left to individual choice, and you can't argue with the classic look of training in a Original Team cap "PDM - ONCÉ-Banesto" I'm sure I'll catch hate. But what ever, I wear one when I have to and leave it behind when I train(and I take the responsibility for that) Keep up the great work I do enjoy your Videos.

Not hate but concern. If you survive a crash with a head injury who will it fall to care for you if a full recovery is not made? You are willing to pay the price for not wearing a helmet but are the ones that you love willing and able to care for you long term if such a thing is to happen. Helmets prevent if not mitigate such things. I'm not here to change your mind but give you some food for thought. Ride hard and have a wonderful spring season.
How to wear a cycling cap? 1. Remove cap from closet 2. Immediately throw in trash 3. And, if you don't drink a cute little coffee in front of the cafe with a newspaper and your leg crossed, you are probably not going to be a douche. Velominati rule #22
