Hi guys, just a quick video to show you how to wash a wetsuit. This is the process I use, it includes five quick steps so should be quite easy to follow.
There is one optional product I recommend you use to wash your wetsuit and that's wetsuit shampoo. I've included a link above of the O’Neill Wetsuit Shampoo + Conditioner I'm using in the video.
0:22 - 'Don'ts' when when washing a wetsuit
1:40 - Step #1 - Wash sand off
3:30 - Step #2 - Apply cleaner
3:44 - Step #3 - Lather and clean
5:05 - Step #4 - Soak (10 Mins)
5:15 - Step #5 - Hang to dry

    Great video. Thank you! You only submerged the wetsuit while it was inside-out. So there is no need to flip the wetsuit on its outer side and submerge it on that side as well?

    Thanks for all the good info! Curious, could you hang a 5mm back zip wetsuit up by the zipper pull sttap? 🤔

  • @TheWaveShack

    @TheWaveShack

    Interesting question but I'd advice against it. A 5mm wetsuit when it's wet will be pretty heavy and asking the zipper to hold that weight up could damage the stitching and overtime possibly stretch the wetsuit out of shape. I'd recommend folding it at the waist and hanging it up with a normal hanger. Glad you found the video useful, thanks for your question! 🤙🏼

    @@TheWaveShack one more question🤔 Storing over the winter months? Can it be folded, and be out in one of those vacuum bags? Thanks again 👍

    @@kanuckster1 No worries! I'd recommend against folding the wetsuit too much when storing for long periods, as that's how deep set creases start to develop. No problem using vacuum bags as I imagine they'll be completely sealed so can store in a shed / garage over winter no problem.

    Is it correct that you would't rinse the suit after shampooing? Just found that a bit odd so would be grateful if you could confirm. Thanks.

    David J great question, I tend to not rinse it off after as most wetsuit cleaners just help the wetsuit smell fresher for longer. Some wetsuit cleaners (Like O’Neills P*** Off) also offer protection to the neoprene so also makes sense to not rinse that off after. But, there’s nothing wrong with rinsing your wetsuit down after washing it - the washing alone will help keep your wetsuit in its best condition for longer. Hope that helps!🤙🏼

    I am washing daughters wetsuit and I have done the spray down to get the sand off but there is still residual sand (like if I squeeze the sleeve...sand sand sand!!) Is it okay if there is some residual sand on the suit?

  • @TheWaveShack

    @TheWaveShack

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes I’d say it’s almost impossible to get 100% of the sand off after use, even when cleaning and spraying it down. In my experience these fine grains of sand are so small that once the wetsuit is dried the wearer won’t even notice they’re there when putting the wetsuit back on. In short, it’s totally fine for there to be some residue sand after a wash - Hope that helps! 🤙🏼
