Here's a tip from a SpaceX employee: We will likely be right there with you watching the launch. If you see us, feel free to ask us questions! We might not be able to answer everything because rules, but we love to talk about our jobs in general space in general and all of the fun things that go with it. Your excitement helps fuel us and we appreciate all the enthusiasm. 🚀🚀🚀

Are you guys hiring? I've been watching all these videos since the very beginning and I can't think of anything that'll be more satisfying then knowing that what you're building is going to make our species interplanetary. Seriously, I don't have kids, I don't have a college degree but I do have 14 years working in the field of land surveying and civil engineering, the past 6 years I've been in business for myself building piers and docks, I've built boats, my welding is not great but I hardly ever weld anyting, I've cast sailboat hardware out of aluminum because I literally couldn't buy the bottom gudgeon that connected the gooseneck of the boom to the mast, I'm not the smartest guy, but I'm not a dummy either. And I know what a long work day is from commercial fishing, maybe I am a dummy I keep going back to commercial fishing LOL

Another option for camping is the South Padre Island KOA. They offer tent sites, RV sites, and a few cabins as well. They have 8 waterfront cabins for rent that are directly adjacent to the Seawall. You have an excellent view of the launch site from the front porches of these 8 cabins. For other guests, they have a large parking lot that used to serve the Pier 19 Restaurant, which sadly burned down in 2022. This parking lot is private (KOA) property, although they do lease spots to SpaceX employees. Little known fact, but there is a hovercraft that will run between the KOA and Starbase to ferry SpaceX employees commuting from SPI.

I was thinking the same. But how big is the no-fly zone in the app? I don't know if there are hacks but at least vanilla they can block you from even start or fly into it so should take care of many attempts if the no-fly zone aligns with NOTAM. I think aeroscope also is aimed at detecting DJI's competitors since the buyers of it don't care what brand you fly.

Thanks for that Tim. Visited from Australia back in late January. Flew into Austin, and drove a rental down. Unfortunately, Texas was suffering from a significant cold snap with freezing drizzle and low visibility, but when we got to Brownsville the clouds disappeared and we were treated to the most beautiful late afternoon and sunset. The drive out to Starbase was fine, but the roads were in terrible condition, with long stretches reduced to single lane ops. When we got there, there was no signage restricting access to Remedios Ave, so drove down and parked opposite the rocket garden. Everything else you said was spot on. We stayed and parked on the opposite side of the road from all the works, and in January at that hour of the afternoon there was almost no traffic (there was one oldtimer's car stuck on the beach, as the tide was coming in. Sherrif's deputy and towtruck in attendance). View from the sand dunes was so serene, but I did pay attention to the turtle nesting area signage and didn't venture too far in. Such an amazing place, and we are so lucky to able to have such close access.

I flew to Valley International Airport, connection thru Houston, stayed on Sout Padre Island (Wife) and just drove down TX-4 to the rocket garden (i touched them scraps!) then went to the launch site at the beach, rental cars are totally allowed on the beach, it's like snow so keep up your momentum and you will be fine. Border patrol just waved us through. Bring lunch. Totally amazing!!!

I've only been down there once. Spent about a week in early 2021 hoping to see SN9. I didn't end up seeing the launch, but I fell in love with the area. I got to meet you and a bunch of other space fans at a beach cleanup and never felt more at home than I did then.

Awesome Video Tim, I think this video will certainly make the rounds as Starbase gears up to start doing regular launches with Starship in the near future. I hope to make it there one day to see one. I am just across the Gulf here in Central FL...but wouldn't be awesome if there was a Cruise Ship opportunity to cruise out of Tampa across the Gulf with the ship anchoring fairly close to the Launch Site out in the water to watch the launch and then you cruise back afterwards. Can call it the "Star Cruise" haha

kinda seems suspicious Tim's doing this video now, given how connected he is to spacex ppl. could this be another confirmation that launch is imminent? I mean there's gonna be tons of ppl on launch day, so this sort of PSA seems to be quite beneficial for spacex

Fish and wildlife has tried to chase people off the dunes in the past but seem to less present lately. Also, if you see Tim Dodd during a launch, stay back at least ten feet. He gets pretty excited and it's safest to stay well out of reach during the action.

Great information! Since I will not be there for a while yet: What time of year is it generally nicer to be outside there? I hear hints about annoying insects and heat, but this may not be a constant threat. This area also gets hurricanes, or at least severe storms, right? This is useful information if you are planning far in advance and not aiming for a specific launch.

Camping is legal on Boca Chica Beach as well as on South Padre Island, anywhere north of Public Beach No 5. Details on the county park websites. I’ve camped at both places several times. There are bathrooms and showers at Public Beach No 5 but that’s the only place with amenities. Be sure to check the tide tables since the beach gets narrower at high tide and the sand is much harder to navigate. And you really should have AWD to drive on the beach.

I got a kick out of the 'environmental' push back on SpaceX. I've been there. The launch area has been used as a 4x4 romper room for decades. Turtle crushing, radiatior leakage, auto parts strewn over a tire tread wasteland. All good. Oh, Rocket company? Yes, we now care about our environment. I also fished the bay on a pontoon (you can rent them). It's a tourist island, there's lots more garbage than fish on your line. I don't mean to paint it as filthy, but the environmental stuff is way overplayed.

I've always wondered what it's like and google maps only shows so much unfortunately 😅 Do you know if you guys will keep the model rocket around for a while? Won't be able to buy one this year unfortunately, budgets be tight and all that. Seriously a massive thanks to you and everyone else whom works so hard at giving those of us who can't be there such a close up experience.
