Great video and great information. Love your videos. And a brake bleeder wow who knew! As a family living off grid really appreciate that you added an option that does not use electricity. Looking forward to your videos on dehydration.

Glad it was helpful! We don't live off grid, but we lose power frequently so we prefer shelf-stable, no-power solutions anywhere possible. We have lots of dehydrating videos coming up after this Pantry Challenge. :)

Thank you so much for the lesson! Plus thanks for the chuckle each time you opened the jar! I bought the brake bleeder kit but hadn't opened it. Now I want to try it. I also have the other two ways but like you I prefer to not have to use oxygen absorbers in jars. Will keep those for pails and mylar. Happy Thanksgiving. The link to here was given from our Rebel Canner group!

I hope you get more subscribers! Great video! I am moving in a few months and all of my stuff is packed so I've been using oxygen absorbers, but you are right they are pricy! I need to get a brake bleeding, but not sure my shoulder can take it. I should get one as a back up though.

My mother used to put a slice of bread in jar overnight when sugar, salt etc harden to rock. 🤷🏻‍♀️. Worked every time.

Are you saying the slice of bread helped the hardened sugar and salt to revert back to a loose powder? That’d be awesome!

We have access to a freeze dryer. (A freeze dryer machine is the only way to freeze dry that I know of.)

I have an older FoodSaver machine and read reviews that the separate attachment hose (green end) that came with most jar sealer accessory kits might not fit. I waited until they offered the 2 lid covers with 2 hoses, one with grey ends and one with green. The grey ends fit my machine. Have you heard about the canisters that will seal jars with one-piece full lids? You put the whole jar (any type jar with any lid) You can also make your own canister container since they are sometimes hard to find to purchase. There are so many of these videos on sealing now that every one of them offers information that is not included in the others. I find that with nearly every topic and it would be nice for one video to cover all options.

I have heard about those canisters but haven't had the need for one. We reuse our non-Mason glass jars to store our "Meal in a Jar" recipes. Because we cycle through those every 2 months, we don't vacuum seal them. The vacuum chamber is a neat idea though, and I love your idea for an all-in-one video. I will add it to our list of future videos. Thanks! :)

If you shorten the hose line, you'll be able to increase your vacuum pressure by a significant amount; I also recommend a different hose line that won't collapse on you over time. Mason jar opener tools are magical at saving your lids. Konatly sells a small mobile Electric Mason Jar Vacuum Sealer pump (rechargeable via USB-C) for like $27 with a vacuum suction rating of 85kPa, those are life savers if you have carpel tunnel (or have a LOT of jars to seal). Food for thought.

hello. does anyone know if using a vacume chamber on regular jars ( not masson jars) is there a maximum limit to the amount of pressure to avoid the jar imploding

I've never heard of that happening. I suppose anything is possible, but both manual and mechanical vacuum sealing methods (ie brake bleeder pump & foodsaver machine) have a stopping point where you really can't force it to go any further.

I’m new at canning, got break bleeder and supplies. But. I have dried cranberries and raisins and black walnuts to put in mason jars first. Do I need to put that absorbent packet in all 3 items in jars first before filling them. Do I need to use break bleeder on the jars once done , for long term storage , or just hand tight??? Love dried cranberries, raisins, walnuts, but don’t know how to store these items for long term

You don't have to use an oxygen absorber if you'll be vacuum sealing the jar. It's an added layer of protection though, so you certainly can if you want to. To store the items you mentioned: 1. Pour the food in the jar. 2. Place a metal lid on the jar (don't put the ring on it yet) 3. Place your Mason jar vacuum-sealing attachment over the lid. 4. Use the brake bleeder to pump until the needle stops moving. 5. Remove the Mason jar vacuum-sealing attachment. The lid should now be vacuumed to the jar. 6. Screw the ring onto the jar, and it's ready for storage (in an area out of direct sunlight).

We don’t even have a microwave. Got rid of it 7 years ago. I wonder if I could’ve used an oven. Is it just a matter of applying heat?
