Thanks for showing this set. I will be trying it. Why do you submerge the opening of the trap?

@@JamesComstockCages Wouldn't the beaver swim into the trap opening if it was mostly submerged? I was wondering if maybe they are less likely to be carrying a stick if the entrance is completely under water.

@@johnreynolds6276Yes, the primary reason is as you say, to keep them from bringing sticks into the trap with them and springing the trap and or catching brush. If the pond side opening is under water they won't bring sticks. When they dive under water they usually just come up inside the trap to first assess the leak in the dam without bringing anything with them and get caught. They might be looking to push some mud up into the hole from the bottom once inside, but of course they can not because they are in the cage compartment with a wire floor. At times they will plug a trap with mud, usually without firing it. Though I have used the dam break successfully on stick dams, I prefer to use them on mud dams. I keep the leak going through the dam and the trap small. Big holes require big patches, which could cause a miss.

No, not this type of set. Guess you could at different locations on the dam but don't want to spook and already leery beaver. Have you used Comstock Cages yet?

I have, I own two and they help me market the "off season relocation" we're required to complete here in Maine with Beaver. I'm a big fan of your double door 9 x11 and wanted very badly to utilize it for dry land beaver sets but found it was too small and was getting refusals. I've had good luck using a plane old Bridger or FB 14x15 or 15x18 falling door trap but would love a cost effective Comstock double door that is a little bigger. I'll keep checking
