How about Mountain.

What sucks for Thorns S2 is that it is actually a pretty damn good skill. It is just that his S3 is flat out better by being more useful. If a 5 star had that skill, I could see that unit being good like La Pluma, Lappland, Liskarm, among others.

Same with many other 6*. They may have 1 or 2 useable skills but they usually have only 1 specific skill that defines them.

Yea, but it's understandable. 6 stars have 3rd skills specifically because it's supposed to be the best skill. There are instances where this isn't the case, but most of the time it is.

Also the synergy kukki mentioned between his S2 and second talent is only available at E2 as thats when that talent gets unlocked and by that time you will be using his S3 exclusively forever. So what couldve been a decent starting skill feels even suckier now

Really loving these showcases. They are insightful, funny and most importantly an accurate depiction of the operator.

i like how the segment at the start showcases each of his weaknesses: 1. no survivability while constantly attacking 2. prioritises blocked enemies, effectively crushing his 'increased range' when handling multiple lanes 3. charging the skill is a pain 4. no AoE, gets overwhelmed by numbers

Always put him in front of the red box behind a defender and profit. (Unless incoming boss)

I might not be in need of this guides but for some reasons i do really enjoy to watch them, especially the way you make them is so clean and also you can learn some gimmicks too. Keep up the good work man! Also we understand the technical difficulties in the first part of the video xD

I was "Thornless" long time ago.. and it was pretty difficult life.. now, its significantly easier, its just that big of an impact

Thorns make game too easy sometimes

The synergy he has with Stainless S3 is outstanding. Basically sp charge with even more range extension. Since Thorns has poison damage, he can easily sets off the machine to crank even more dps

For the Invitation to Wine part, don't forget his talent is arts damage, meaning he can also kill the artefacts that need arts damage to kill.

I always view thorns as the "baseline" he provides so much good DPS in a good area but he just increases the average, consistent, constant damage. Some situations still need burst damage, or arts, or aoe etc

Hi, thank you for the guide, I just got him last night. Im so happy that I got a very good operator.

Kukki, potential numbers are shown with (+blue numbers)! 3.5% is his base regen.

Yesterday got my Thorns in the first single pull on the banner, so i would gladly accept the guide haha

5:52 For anyone who don't buy Thorn's skin, the poison is dark yellow colored. Also worth to mention Thorn S2 isn't as intuitive as displayed in the video if you don't own the skin. There's no wave thingy animation i think. So skin do have uses to make things like that more intuitive. Another good example is Flametail, it is very hard to see when she dodges an attack without her skin. Kukki missed opportunity to say Horn is Thorns with missing T during the Thorns express; I mean, both of them is there. My friend owns Horn but no Thorns, so i always joke about it. You can just add T in front of her then making it plural.

My favorite operator. Almost took me a whole year to get him, but I finally did it.

I just got Thorns (by accident, I wanted Lee.) and I needed to k ow how he is used. I seen him in to many tutorials alomg with Mountain and Mudrock (Who I also have, Mr. Lee doesn't like me so Yoster gave me these three as an apology.😢) (But no seriously, my heart shattered when I saw that one red recruitment paper instead of two, it was a 50/50 and I lost this round!😭)

Started playing when thorns got released then didn't pull for him and regretting it latur to the point i stopped playing. Then after a few months i returned and then got disappointed bcoz thorns was in the cert shop last week and i didn't get him. Kept on playing then and pop some pulls on the thorn standard banner and got a different thorn instead, i got thorn skill of hoshiguma damn. Then last night i pulled on the joint operations banner and finally got lucky on thorns. What a journey indeed

Just got Thorns barely 2 days ago and already maxed him out. Been abusing him in reclamation and IS3

Thorns only downside is like every lane holder. Not enough block count and no AOE. (Mudrock has AOE spin, but it's not constant, and Mountain only has 2 AOE so not enough)

I got Dorothy from the banner instead but well at least she's also usefull on her own and can also synnergise with Quibai

Got her as well, it's like having a sniper, a caster and a slow supporter in 1 operator. Really comfy.

Single pulling on the joint operation banner gave me dorothy instead, i mean i wanted her when she came out but she isn't in my mind now.

Finally I got thorns from joint banner.. Now I can do annihilation without support unit

I think Thorns really can solo every stages because everyone is Thorns. Thorns is inside you. Every operator is Thorns including Thorns ;) (I'm sorry,I got The Thornification Effect on me too)

Thorns hates being alone but he works amazing with synergies

They will be kept, but no one knows if they will be repurposed. You can spend them in any way, but once you run out, you can't do anything already. There will be no new ways to earn for a long time.

Thorns is OP. Useful though. Personally I use QuiBai way more since i got her. Especially when it comes to large waves of enemies. Her S1 is great, her s2 is lethal, and that s3 chews up mobs.

@@cefrinaldi8060 At higher difficulties he just completely falls off. Past like d4 I rarely picked him, at d15 the guard I used most was a borrowed gavialter followed by highmore and tequila (I don't have mlynar)

The problem with Thorns is that burst operators have skill cycles that are too good. Back when operators like Eyja S3 Silverash S3 were the gold standard for burst, there would be large periods of downtime in between those skills where you really needed that sort of consistent laneholder, and that's also why operators like Blaze and Mountain were so highly valued. Today the game has been largely powercrept to the point you don't have to retreat or wait very long for skills with the same impact as Eyja/SA S3 to come back up, just look at the well-known Gavialter/Mlynar combo, their cooldowns line up more or less perfectly with each other, so at least one will be in effect at any given time. And it's not like Gavialter and Mlynar are the only ones that can pair up with each other, Reed alter and Spalter(especially with X module) also have really similar skill cycles that any combination of the 4 will just go well with each other. To put the nail in the coffin, there are newer operators that do the infinite duration thing with far higher damage, like Chongyue and the yet-to-be-released Typhon, it's so hard for Thorns to compete in the current meta, where too many options that do the same thing or better exist in the same niche.

Thorns is the reason why I'm playing the game. I pulled everything I had in his joint operator banner but none of them was Thorns. Arknights rly hates me XD

Mostly because he doesn't deal well with high def units, especially when there are multiple of them. If he can still dps units, he is still good.

@@kosmosXcannon not enough, he takes a pretty long time to charge his s3 to the 2nd skill usage as well, so yea if a big enemy come and he still hasnt got his s3 on 2nd activation yet he kinda dead, tho this can be mitigate simply placing a defender in front of him or sp battery

Although he might be falling, he still a very solid unit. He also might not be meta anymore but thorn users always find a way that make him useful. Me myself use thorn to achieve r18 cc#12

Coming here to listen to people say how good thorns is so that I feel less bad for spending 160 pulls on this banner and fail to get fish husband to get 3 Thorns instead. 😢

Thorns is one of the least enjoyable 6 stars to play with in AK for me ... but damn his handsome and cute ^^

Despite the idiocy in the intro "Oh Thorns can't solo", Thorns is either one of the best or straight up the best operator in the game. He's very versatile, he fits into any team, he's not that DP costly, deals absurd amount of damage, has great range, self-sustain...anything you could ask for in operator - Thorns has it. So yeah, build him, use him, pour your resources into him - he'll make you a happy Dokutah

I'm sorry, what? While Thorns is versatile, I claim that he can actually be completely cut from veteran teams. As others have pointed out, enemy DEF increasing considerably has made Thorns perform worse than before. On top of that, we live in an era where we can just repeatedly spam nuke skills (Texalter S3, Yato Alter S3, not to mention Mlynar S3 and Gavialter S2 having near 100% uptime). As general purpose landholders, Mountain S2, Gavialter S2 even without Mlynar, Specter Alter S2, and Chongyue S3 (especially with Skalter) are preferable because they pierce through high DEF, have some sort of AoE, or both. Even Horn S1 is better because of the AoE and range! Now, out of the 5 ops I mentioned as landholders, only Horn and Gavialter are more expensive than him. Sure, most of them don't have self-sustain, but Thorns' self-sustain is also not that great either because he has to continually attack those pesky high DEF enemies. So he's just not able to catch a break. As for drones - let's take a look at the most recent events that had a new drone enemy. There's the MH birds, the sea drifters/Highmore from IS3, the flying ch11 enemies that literally kill themselves, and... Minimalist the IC boss. That's 5 new flying enemies in the span of 9 months, and two of them are in IS3 where he's pretty much unusable as a starter and you don't want to pick him up midway anyways. I don't think the fact that he hits air is that relevant. So tldr thorns mega overrated. For the record I do have an E2 max s3m3 thorns so it's not like I'm salty - I'm just disappointed.

Perhaps for a new player wishing to get past the early game comfortably, yes. But he is significantly worse at harder stages. He's not bad per se, but still not noteworthy at all. His value comes from making not-too-hard stages trivial. But in this role he's really not that much better than Texalter (who also provides insane value in hard stages, making her one of the best operators), or of course Ling who can literally solo the most stages. But arguably operators like Mlynar or Surtr who can make not-too-hard stages easier (albeit not as braindead as Thorns) who can also provide immense value in later story stages against Patriot, Mandragora, and Manfred, and The Last Steam Knight for Surtr, are also better than Thorns, even to players who don't wish for the hardest of stages but merely to clear story. As an aside, I don't think Thorns is significantly better than other laneholders like Mountain, Mudrock, and Penance. Mountain is better at holding a lane by himself with absolutely no setup whereas Thorns can help out other lanes, which kinda even out. Mudrock can do more than just hold lanes, while Penance can hold lanes insanely well by herself especially if the conditions are right.

@@halley_lu You just proved my point don't you? Sure, for nuking bosses and insane DPS - build some executors...or use Thorns albeit he's a bit worse. Line holders - yeah Mountain or Chongyue with Skalter is better...but you can use Thorns with a bit of support. Aerial - Build Exsusai...or use Thorns with maybe cheap sniper on top. See the pattern? You listed like 10 or 15 different 6 star ops for specific situations who deals with them better than Thorns but now compare the cost of building said 10 operators with cost of building one Thorns with whatever support and still achieving the same result? Thorns still wins. If you're an endgame player who has dozens of fully built 6 star operators and can cook up a team that will deal with max risk CC on day 1 fully AFK - good for you. But at that point the question "Should I built this operator or not" is not really on the table isn't it?

@@RoYaLDeMoN025 No. The problem with Thorns is that he trivializes easy content (story stages, some r8 daily CC). Outside of that, he flounders and flounders hard. If I'm recommending a new player to build an op, I'm not going to recommend someone who only excels in beating easy stages for the price of a 6* E2 and S3M3. That's just not good value.

Thorns has slowly been losing meta, especially after IS4's release, which is a shame because I love using Thorns.
