    I have had cats for the last 30 years. Right now I have 7 adults and 5 kittens. A couple of months ago, I tried the bedding pellet system as a cat litter. I wish I had known about this years ago. I bought the 3-piece pan and sifter at Walmart for around $15. This is such a money saver! And this is practically order-free. I will never buy the clay litter again.

    I switch to pellet litter two weeks ago and its 100% better than clump litter. The clumping litter would stink up the whole house

    I was at our local Tractor Supply Company where I buy the horse pellets and while waiting for my ride to pull the car around so the guy that was doing my carry out could put it in the car for me, I told him I use it for cat litter...He was amazed to hear about it! He had never heard about it.

    How about odor control? And litter mess. I have 6 Cats and I used deep boxes as l litter boxes but they always carry litter everywhere. I'm thinking about making a big enclosure litter box from a large storage box. But I saw this pine litter And wanted to try it too. But because it is non-clumping, I am worried about the odor from poop.

    If you put some pellets on the bottom try you can eliminate the use of the puppy pad, that you save you money as well as being more environmentally friendly!

    I agree with not using the puppy pad! I love the idea of the pellets (some of my cats don't though!) for being environmentally friendly but using a plastic puppy pad defeats the purpose of using the pellets!

    @@dawnlofgren770 , Hi! I too have been recently "converted" from the traditional litter to the wood pellets and they are great!! However, I've found those puppy pads to be quite helpful. They (the pellets) do indeed soak up the urine and "turn" to sawdust but initially it is very "wet" sawdust and when it's covered it takes a while for it to turn into dry sawdust. It's not getting enough air flow being covered by the pan on top and the dry pellets to dry quickly. If the drying was immediate then removing it would be rather easy. But as I said, the pellets are initially saturated with urine and the pads help in soaking up a lot of the wetness that DOESN'T get dried up. I just gather it (the pad and the wet sawdust) by rolling or folding it all up and tossing it like you would a wet baby diaper. So, my point is, without the pad you would have to clean/wipe out the litter pan of urine and sawdust maybe a lot more often than you'd like to. Just wanted to share that observation. Bottom line, do whatever's is easiest for you. :-)

    The 40lb bag of pine pellets fits perfectly into two plastic kitty litter buckets, for those who have those handy and want to recycle them. Also, the two buckets are a lot easier to carry and store.

    Love this system. Really does a great job. The sawdust falls right through and you just scoop. Bought the pellets a month ago 75% full. Used old Velcro rollers between pans and lined the bottom pan with trash bag. Use the third pan as a feet soaker. Perfect size. Could always use as an extra cat box in a pinch. Thank you for sharing.

    I have this one but instead of putting something to elevate the sifter I have an old litter box that has a guard around it so the cat doesn't kick the pellets outside the box. I put the arm and hammer sifter inside and it fits perfectly and is elevated about 5 inches or so.

    I've been doing this for about 2 and a half years except i cut the bottom of 2 gatoraid bottles and then cut them in half and glued one half on each of the corners on the bottom of my sifting pan so that when I shake it there is about 1inch allowance in between both boxes that way I only need to change the bottom pad once a week and it helps keep the sawdust in the bottom and not sitting in the pan which will make the rest of the pellets disintegrate faster because of the moisture

    I've been using these pellets since before COVID with the Tidy Cat Breeze system. Honestly, I love the pellets, Ace Hardware sells them very inexpensively; but I'm trading in the Tidy Cat system for the Arm & Hammer. A lot less rigging and hassle. Two big tips, if she doesn't cover it ( havent watched it all yet) 1. Make sure pellet bags are stored somewhere dry or they will disintegrate. 2. No more than an inch deep in the pan with the pellets. Way easier to shift.

For 6.00 for 7 months you cant beat it!!

    I've been using the Purina Tidy cat sifting system and it sucks because they have a tray at the bottom with a pad. But when you remove the tray to change the pad, it leaves a hole at the bottom of the litter box and guess what. The litter and sawdust falls through the empty hole onto the floor. Who thought it was a good idea to create a system like that exposing the litter box bottom opening to your floor? This 3 piece system with puppy pads looks like it would work better for me. Only problem is the "Arm and Hammer sifting box" is quite small. If I could find one that is large or xtra large, to use pine needles. I'd be pretty set.

    the white sifter bin is ONLY to b used as a TOOL and not a mainstay. this white sifter bin is to b placed INBETWEEN the two solid floor bins; u put the litter in the solid floor bin (not in the sifter bin) to be used. WHEN you want to CLEAN the litter tray, u pick out the feces, then separate all 3 bins, put the white sifter bin on top of the empty solid floor bin, then pour the dirty litter into the white sifter bin which has the empty solid floor bin underneath it. shake vigorously or scrape around in the white sifter bin to make the loose sawdust go through the sifter holes. place white sifter bin of pellets into the empty solid floor bin. dump the sawdust litter into the garbage. replace the white bin back between the solid floor bins. done!

    Are you using pine or paper pellets. I have been using pine for bunnies (rabbit using is VERY STINKY and ammonia-like). The downside to pellets is that it does not dry up poops like clay does, so that might be stinky but does well for urine. If this does not work for you, I DEFINATELY recommend Tofu cat litter (yes , you read that right), however it is on the pricey side, but covers up all smells very well. Pro: covers smell and *some* tofu litters are flushable, as long as it's not mixed with clay. Also cleans up the wet parts easily even if urine soaks to the bottom of the pan, the litter comes off very easily.

    First- you are absolutely GORGEOUS.. love those blue eyes.. (just a compliment- well deserved).. Second- that doesn't leave much room at the bottom for the sawdust to leak through-- so you can take this and buy a plastic storage box that is a bit bigger than the filter pan- but like 6 inches deep-- trace it out on the lid and then stick the filter pan down tightly in the hole-- which will give you several inches to collect the sawdust instead of the narrow inch. ( I have 3 cats and would be changing it every few hours!!! ha. ) I'm also NOT using an puppy pads-- too expenisve. Just put a spoon full or two of VINEGAR in a spray bottle of water-- and empty the bottom pan- spray it with the vinegar/water mixture, and let it dry-- the smell will disappear and it will be totally clean and dry. I am also COMPOSTING the sawdust.. great for my roses!!! NO puppy pad cost- and YES the pellets will do me about 2 months (with 3 cats).. instead of $15 for clay every week or two..and the toxic mess of breathing that dust) THANKS... OH-- if you don't do roses-- and have a small yard.. use a flat shovel and go use it to scoop up a square section of the yard- then dig a hole maybe 4-6 inches deep and leave it--- and each time dump the "sawdust" in there and when it gets full- recover it with the "sod section" that you peeled off... and do that all over and the entire yard will benefit from the composting..

    I'm suprised they didn't make the second pan so there was room for the saw dust to seep down into the pan. Now you have to put something in to raise the pan to collect the saw dust. Other than that I think its a good system and will be using it soon. Plus you can really save money and I heard that pellets don't have alot of dust which makes it more appealing for people with allergies to dust.

    I have a sifting litter box too, but the holes in the bottom of it are too big.. and the pellets would fall through. You will need to get a different sifting litter box with smaller sifting holes that won't allow the pellets to go through. This may sound strange, but Go buy a bag of pellets for $6, and take a couple pellets to the store with you and see if the pellets will fit through the sifting holes. Keep looking until you find oue that they can't go through. Also note that the pellets are cylinder shape, like a tube, so a sifting box with oval holes may work better at catching the pellets than a box with square holes (as long as the holes are smaller than the pellets, it will work).

    @traciewilliams8385

    Nope, you have to scoop it pretty much immediately. But as far as regular litter i had to scoop that immediately too. So I'll take the no urine odor any day over the smell of regular litter. Change back if it really bothers you. I think the clay litter stinks. I've been using pine for two cats for a year I cannot tell you how many people say WOW if I didn't see them I would never know you had cats. Plus the other kind is so bad for them, plus they track the clay litter every where. They get it stuck to their feet and ingest it out chumps inside them just like it clumps in the pan imagine? I'll take the stinky poop any day over all the toxins they aren't eating now. 😊 it's an individual decision I think the wood smell is nice I associate it with cat litter now but I still remember how nasty the regular litter smelled. Good luck! It really is so much better for them. Not to mention the savings. I'm used to their poop times now and I try to wait till both of them go before I change it but usually I just take it out separately. Hope this was helpful! Oh some people use litter genies which you put the poop in and it seals it right up. So that's another option. The thought of all that poop in my room grosses me out thought. Lol I would rather just toss it outside.

  • @traciewilliams8385

    @traciewilliams8385

    Sorry about the typos, hope you got the gist! Also i don't even use puppy pads, that would just be urine sitting there in my opinion. I just sift the pellets every few days and dump the saw dust. Sometimes I don't even do that and they have a bunch of saw dust in their pan. I try not to let it get too crazy. If it does I'll just dump the whole thing. I don't use the sifting pans as their box any more. I got a huge one (circular) with a top and some stairs. I just sift it every once in a while. Take the poop out daily still usually as soon as they poop. Even with the cover I can smell it. Again it's all about what you can deal with. I would never go back to clay, clumping, Crystal litters. I even end up buying the more expensive cat brand pellets, the Tractor place isn't easy to get to. It's still cheaper lol

    I need advice. I really want a cat but I'm leaving as an exchange student in 1.5-2 years. I really want to adopt a cat, I've spent hundreds of hours (literally) researching and watching videos because if I ever become a cat owner I'd like to be a great one. I'm highly considering adopting a cat but I'm just now entering college. Part of my college's requirements is to complete at least 1 semester abroad, but my plan would be to complete a year and I'd be doing this in about 3 or 4 semesters (1.5 to 2 years). Would it still be appropriate to adopt a cat now? Despite my wishes, is it better for me to simply hold off on owning a cat until I am settled at a home? Whenever it would be time for me to leave to study a year abroad, I'd be leaving the cat with my parents, both of whom have expressed If I adopt a kitty they would not partake in its care. It is of my belief if I adopt and leave in 1.5-2 years for a whole year, by then I would have the cat obviously litter box trained and with regular feeding schedules, as well as a preferred vet. So effort from my parents to take care of the cat while I'm gone would be minimal. I genuinely am at a crossroads, and I don't want to be selfish in wanting to adopt a cat so I'd like to do what would be best for the cat, not myself. Should I hold off until I'm settled in a few years and live alone?

  • @BoredorBananas

    @BoredorBananas

    Жыл бұрын

    I would wait until you are home from abroad. It wouldn’t be fair to your parents even with a well trained cat to leave the cat with them. Cats are social animals and bond with their humans. They require love and attention. It’s not just cleaning a litter box and feeding them. It would be too stressful on all parties involved to adopt before you leave. Good luck on your higher education!

Sometimes it's still a little wet and sticks to the pan slightly, but I bang it against the trash can and it all mostly comes off. If little flakes of sawdust are still stuck, I dont care. It's a litterbox, and it's the part you don't see anyway.🤷🏾‍♀️

    I have five indoor adult cats and have been using Tractor Supply Equine Pine Pellets for a year and absolutely love it! I pay $5.19 for a 40 pound bag. Saves me so much money! I don't use puppy pads. Too expensive and not needed. The poo is never damp...the pellets absorb the smell and moisture. The pellets turn the urine into sawdust and is so easy to clean. There is never urine or poo stuck to my three litter boxes. If in a hurry when cleaning the litter boxes I can simply wipe with dry or damp paper towels. I dump the sawdust onto an area behind my shed and rake it flat when I have time. It's not toxic to the cats, soil or environment unless a cat maybe has allergies and is allergic to it. My cats don't have any problems with it and also took right to it the first day of use. I didn't have to gradually let them adapt to it. I have babysat three kittens at different times and they took to it right away, too. It's environmentally friendly which clay litter isn't. I think it also looks more presentable in the litter boxes than clay litter. I will never go back to clay litter.
