How much historical data does the Back Up tab show data? Will it show EVERY event going back to Day One? I assume it can be downloaded to a spreadsheet?

The Tesla App can display lifetime data, so yes, you can view all backup events. To download your data: "In the three dots menu in the top right of the graph screen, tap ‘Download My Data’ to export your system data in CSV format for further analysis. Data will be exported based on your current timescale (Day, Week, Month, Year or Lifetime) and selected time period (e.g., May, June, July, etc.). For systems with Powerwall installed, your charge level data is available at 15-minute intervals." www.tesla.com/en_au/support/energy/powerwall/mobile-app/energy-data

Just had this done today. Tesla app def gives a lot of info and all you need day to day. The Enphase app is much more detailed.

Can the powerwall 2 be force charged using storm watch for a system that will not be able to fill the battery in winter using a tou tariff

Hi, thanks for the question. Yes, you can lift the reserve capacity to 100% at any time and your battery will force charge from the grid. This is available to homeowners. Hope this helps!

Hey, just came across your channel, excellent resource. Sorry for the long winded question. I have solar + Powerwall 2 and for most for most of the year, am self sufficient. I'm on TOU tariff, but keep Operational Mode on Self Powered, because generally speaking, I don't want battery replenishing from the grid on off peak, as it was doing before I changed the setting. If we are expecting rain the next day, I will slide the backup reserve up to say 70% during the off peak period overnight to top up from the grid, to ensure that I have enough to get through the following day's peak period. What has always bugged me is that when charging from the grid in Self Powered mode, it only charges at 1.8kW's which is too slow if I only wake up 1 - 1.5 hrs before off peak ends. If I change to Time Based Control mode during this time, then it will charge at the full rate of 5kW's, but if I'm not watching and don't change the Operational Mode back to SP, it will continue to charge to 100%, not to what I have the reserve set at. Any reason for the different charging rates depending on Operational Modes? Tesla were not very helpful when asked. Thanks for any insights

Hey, thanks for watching. Unfortunately, we don't really have an answer for this, Tesla would be the people to speak to. We're pretty sure Tesla can increase the charge rate when charging from the grid, but you'll need to discuss with them directly. Sorry we weren't more help here!

@@springers I've already been in touch with Tesla, but to be frank, they didn't really show any interest other than to do a quick online check of the Powerwall and tell me everything was fine. That's OK, I'll just continue with my work around. I was quite surprised that when I mentioned this issue with quite a few people I know with Powerwalls, they got back to me to say it was the same for them, they hadn't picked up on it. Thanks again for your response 😀

Have Powerwall 2 but noticed your app is displaying a dollar value, mine displays "No data discovered for the selected time frame. Tariffs have been set up in Utility Plan Rate.

I noticed you had a Zappi EV charger. Does the powerwall recognise and 'speak' to this ?

@springers nope they didn't do much of anything besides take my money. I've been on tesla's site my problem is there isn't any stickered information like a password or serial number on my batteries so I can't start the process.

Can someone explain why I would want to power my home at night from the batteries in a place that doesn't have time of use?

Hi, thanks for the question. Storing energy during the day to provide power at night is viable and worthwhile as feed-in tariffs for solar reduce and the cost of electricity continues to increase. Solar is the cheapest form of electricity and can charge the battery during the day for overnight usage very effectively. Hope that helps, cheers 🌞

@@springers Thanks. To be more specific- I have a large solar array and 3 Tesla Powerwalls. In my area we have net metering- every KW I export is applied as a credit to what I import. We don't have time of use differences in price- it's always the same price. So, am I correct in thinking that discharging and recharging the batteries does me no good, and in fact will accelerate battery degradation?

​@@bobqzzithe Tesla batteries are designed to be discharged and recharged each day. They are rated at 70% of original capacity at the 10year mark. Exporting energy at 5c/kWh and then importing at 30c/kWh overnight doesn't stack up when you have batteries. You are better off storing energy and using it overnight to reduce your overall consumption.

@@bobqzzi Why did you install 3 Powerwalls if you have net metering? Do you live somewhere with a lot of outages, or you just want to know if disaster strikes you'll be self sufficient?

@@Pete856 Not a lot of outages here, but i wanted the convenience of uninterrupted power for those we do have. We are part of connected solutions so we get paid to supply energy to the grid, but that will never recoup the costs of the powerwalls. Waiting for our first check now.
