  • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial

    The concern is that it may not penetrate the skin well enough because you are young, and therefore your skin is still thicker, so you may be better off with using a Retinol product in the evening. This can give you anti-aging benefits and make you less oily during the day. So you could use a retinol 0,2 % in the evening and in the morning your Niacinamide. :) And if you are exposed to the sun, don't forget sunscreen. The best I have tried for oily skin so far is Paula's Choice Youth Extending Daily Hydrating Fluid with SPF 50.

    I have been watching your videos all day, thank you so much for how informative you are!! I have extremely dry skin, and my cheeks, nose and sometimes forehead get very red, especially with the winter coming up. Would you say this skincare routine targets my issues? AM: 1. CeraVe hydrating cleanser 2. Hylaronic acid essence (Hanskin) & serum (the ordinary) 3. The Ordinary Buffet serum 4. Clinique moisture surge moisturizer 5. SPF PM: 1. Same cleanser 2. The Ordinary lactic acid serum 3. The Ordinary hylaronic serum 4. Same moisturizer Also, I did purchase the AHA 30% peeling solution, but am scared to try it or mix anything, how would you recommend using this product with others? Would you recommend adding/changing/eliminating any products I listed based on my (very dry/red) skin type? I’m so sorry for all of the questions, you are so helpful! Thank you!

    It's very individual, but do you feel that the products aren't moisturizing enough? If so you may need to change your moisturizer or add other hydrates or an oil to your routine, especially during the winter. A great oil is the Borage seed oil since it can help with redness. Or Azelaic Acid Booster from Paula's Choice. Here is a great read about Azelaic Acid: www.paulaschoice.com/expert-advice/skincare-advice/basic-skin-care-tips/azelaic-acid-for-skin.html Regarding the peeling solution I have a very in-depth video (which is a bit long, but covers all the details) you can find it right here: How to Apply The Ordinary 30% AHA + 2% BHA Peeling Solution with Niacinamide and Alpha Arbutin: kzread.info/dash/bejne/k6Ctw7KCkbCyo5c.html The title is a bit misleading, but it covers all the essential points that you need to know to use the product properly :)

    This is how skincare works😉every skin is different, I guess that those conflicts are also mainly mentioned so that people won't get an irritation to give them the best recommendation and keep the ''irritation problem'' low. But I also read in my clever book (Cosmeceuticals and Cosmetic Ingredients): that hydroxy acids (in this case the glycolic acid) may influence the efficacy of other skincare ingredients when using it in a routine😊 You can use Buffet and Niacinamide together and at night the toner alone or finish with a moisturiser😊

    Hello 😀 It should not be used with any strong acids. So no, it's not advisable to use it. Here is the explanation: Previously, we did not have a contraindication listed for the use of direct acids/Vitamin C with any of our peptides. However, we now have a huge arsenal of these products and some of the formulations are more susceptible to hydrolysis with certain types of Vitamin C or acids. Instead of developing a complex guide listing the compatibility of each of our peptides with each acid and Vitamin C, we have adapted the following approach to maximize efficacy for the maximum number of people: It is best to not use Peptides in the same routine as the following products: Direct acids, LAA (L-Ascorbic Acid) and ELAA (Ethylated Ascorbic Acid). In addition, we would recommend avoiding the use of products containing copper peptides in the same routine as strong antioxidants as well as direct acids/LAA/ELAA. I just covered the Ordinary products in this video, since it is impossible to cover everything. ;)

    Melissa Van Dijk yes I see, that’s why I thought it was best to ask someone who knows what’s what, you 😄❤️. Thank you very much for your in depth explanation, it certainly is a mine field with all these products. I think what I did understand from your video though is to use the toner in the morning to target my pores and this ‘buffet’ during the night to target fine lines. So able to use both, just not together? Thank you x

  • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial

    @MelissaVanDijkOfficial

    Yes, you can also do it the other way around. If you use it during the day, do not forget to add sunscreen. Well, every time you use Glycolic Acid, you should wear sunscreen anyway since it makes your skin sensitive to the sun. But generally speaking, I would say it's best to use Buffet in the morning and Glycolic Acid in the evening. But technically you also can do it the other way around. Just make sure that you are not using multiple strong acids together. And also, have you watched this video? Thanks for your videos, they helped me understand what all of these serums achieve. Does "Buffet" have any counterparts which benefit from other serums? I have "Hyaluronic Acid 2% * B5, 100% Plant-Derived Squalane," and "Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12%." My friend bought me 4 different kinds and I am not sure how to use all of these. I've just been using two random serums at the same time just to see what happens.

  • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial

    @MelissaVanDijkOfficial

    3 жыл бұрын

    I can help you to figure it out: Buffet = Water-Based Serum Hyaluronic Acid = Water-Based Serum Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution = Water-Based Serum 100% Plant-Derived Squalane = Oil The general rule of thumb for the order of application is: 1. Water-based serums 2. Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations 3. Lotions & Creams & suspensions Important: If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first). And it’s recommended applying eye-serums (such as Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG) first after cleansing. It’s recommended using no more than 3 serum formulations in a single routine for optimal skin penetration. About 2-3 drops of each serum and 1 pea-sized amount of creams should be enough for the full face and neck. Use a "patting" application method, as opposed to "rubbing." Always apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun!! Some products can have a foaming effect upon application depending on the other products you are using in your regimen. The foaming should not last longer than a few seconds and both should not remain sticky once absorbed into the skin. (Video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pGRouZmrgbmXgpM.html) "Pilling" (snakeskin, shedding) can occur due to too much product. Your skin can only absorb a certain amount of product, and any excess will be left on top of the skin so that when the next product is being applied, it rubs off. (Video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/npN3maqtf5uYZqQ.html). How to Create a Skincare Routine With The Ordinary Products - A Beginners Guide: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oqKbwcN6l5ioYKQ.html

    Do you have oily acne-prone skin or dry acne-prone skin? If it is dry, it may work. But for oily acne-prone skin, my advice would be not to use a moisturizer and/or oil but instead use sunscreen during daytime (suitable for oily acne-prone skin) and skip it entirely in the evening. AM: 1. CeraVe oily skin cleanser 2. Buffet ( the ordinary) 3. Niacinamide + zinc(the ordinary). 4. SPF (Example Cetaphil Acne-prone skin moisturizer with SPF) PM: 1. CeraVe cleanser 2. Hyaluronic acid (The Ordinary). 3. Granactive Retinoid 2% And my advice would be to use a benzoyl peroxide cleanser if you still have some active acne.(you can use it every other day up to daily) Differin Daily Deep Facial Cleanser for Acne-Prone Skin (you can get it on iherb.com)

    Hello, I’m new with The ordinary brand, I’m using Buffet and Niacin-amide, I apply first the Niacinamide and then the Buffet; am I doing correctly?? I do this only in the morning. My main concern is to control my skin, which is very oily, my pores as well, and then aging. I hope you can help me. Thank you. I’m also using vitamin c, but I use it alone at night. By the way I’m writing from México and I love your accent!!

    I recommend doing it the other way around because Niacinamide also has benefits in preventing water loss. Still, I am not 100% sure if the order matters since both are water-based. But for how long have you been doing this, and does it help?

    Phenomenal Channel Melissa! Q- is it possible to change the ph after buffet settles in (with a toner/no acids) and then add in a exfoliating acid after this ph adjustment?

  • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial

    @MelissaVanDijkOfficial

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes, that's a good question. I do not fully understand how the skin really affects the products and how long it needs to absorb them and adjust to its normal pH when the recommended amount was used. Based on what I have read is that this happens very quickly. But the formulation may also play a significant role. If this is stable, it may work, but you need to analyse it; as far as I know, you cannot see/feel the breakdown of the peptides with your eyes. And if you use a well-formulated product with a higher pH afterwards, it should work, but it needs to stay within, and The Ordinary products are very simple so that it may affect the outcome. This is very complicated, and I do not fully understand it since I cannot analyse it myself. So I am always going with the brands' recommendations and just tell people to generally avoid products containing a high concentration of acids since it's easier to use one in the morning and the other in the evening. ;) So I recommend doing some more research online and ask a real chemist to understand it fully :)

    @@MelissaVanDijkOfficial Im just seeing your reply now. Im not even sure why I asked this specific question in the first place. But it may have been because I've heard of people using acids and a pH buffer to get ascorbic acid deeper into the skin. It sounds like buffet is good to isolate though from the look of deciem's chart, it doesn't pair with much according to them. That's how I've been using it.

    @@theshepard22 You can use a low pH product to get ascorbic acid deeper into the skin. That's what is generally recommended in books that I have at home; it works well. I am currently doing videos around that topic. But back to Buffet, the Ordinary says the following: "We are deeply grateful to our devoted customers for loving us and our products so much. Our lab has and continues to devote countless hours to share the newest innovations with our broader world. The Ordinary now offers a wide range of products under the Vitamin C, Peptide and Direct Acid categories, and to help our ever-growing, loving family of users build functional and effective routines incorporating these products we have developed an introductory guideline into the brand. Previously, we did not have a contraindication listed for the use of direct acids/Vitamin C with any of our peptides. In addition, we would recommend avoiding the use of products containing copper peptides in the same routine as strong antioxidants as well as direct acids/LAA/ELAA."

    I mostly agree with what Zoe said here. 1. From my experience, it is best to skip the toner when using buffet! I have had a bad experience while using it in combination with other products as you can see right here kzread.info/dash/bejne/f6Ogr6-cc6_Yl6Q.html (with pictures) 2. What you also can do and what I would recommend is testing it. Apply a small amount of your toner on your upper forearm and try to use the buffet on top to see if any irritation occurs after 24 hours. If not, you can try the same on your neck or an area on your face where you can cover it. And see how it goes. Honestly, this is the best way on how you can figure it out.

    Hello :) Yes, that makes sense. It is just that plant oils are applied before creams because they have smaller molecules. Only mineral oils (petrolatum, dimethicone...) are used as the last step. I'd like to ask you that how could you get over the breakout from using buffet because it's breaking my skin out too. I used it on night routine daily then stopped for a couple days, then I changed by using it 3 days per week in the morning but it still breaks me out. This is so frustrating.

    Hey😊 Well, while a was using Buffet for some times, it broke me out quite a lot, since that video went up, I stopped using it and the breakouts calmed down, I only added a How-To video about Buffet later on since not everyone experiences breakouts while using it. However, if this happens to you as well, I recommend stop using it because it will annoy you a lot! - You may want to look for a different anti-aging product such as retinoids. I also been using daily different products from the Ordinary and sometimes La Roche Posay which you can see an follow if you scroll through my KZread Channel as I'm uploading daily😅 I also changed my diet a bit and tried to reduce the stress and so much more...I will upload a video soon talking about the changes and share some before and afters😊

    PLEASE RESPOND !!!!! DO YOU KNOW IF WE ARE ALLOWED TO USE THE ORDINARY CAFFEINE SOLUTION AND A VITAMIN C SERUM IN ONE ROUTINE TOGETHER!?!!?!!

  • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial

    @MelissaVanDijkOfficial

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yes, you can. The Caffeine Solution doesn't have conflicts with any of the other Ordinary products. You can use the caffeine solution daily in the morning and/or evening😊 Please remember this: The general rule of thumb for order of application is: 1. Water-based serums 2. Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations 3. Creams & suspensions Important: If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first), And it’s recommended applying eye-serums (such as Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG) first after cleansing. And a maximum of three serum formulations in a single regimen Apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun!!

    Buffet and Vitamin C should not be used in the same routine. What are your skin concerns because Buffet is an anti-aging serum and Vitamin C too + it can help to brighten and even out your skin tone :) Both products do not directly target hydration...you may want to look into hyaluronic acid, or marine hyaluronics and a moisturiser :)

    Hello 🙂 They do not help with your concerns since they do not penetrate deeply enough. Better to stick with the retinoid and add an AHA such as Glycolic Acid to your routine. You could use it every other day, so when not using the retinoid. Or you may even use them together depending on your skin tolerance. So it could be: (PM1) Double Cleansing Glycolic Acid (optional) Moisturiser (PM2) Double Cleansing Niacinamide 10% & Zinc 1% Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion Moisturiser
