    You can also do dynamic upwards compression by turning the ratio dial anticlockwise past the zero.

    Great video. I've been using Nova for a while, and it really is amazing that it is free. I really like your advice to novices: use the solo buttons and get used to various frequency ranges. I wish someone had given me that one piece of advice when I started. It's took me a while to realize I needed to do this! Keep up the good videos.

    To the compressor section, there's one rule: the higher the frequency is, the longer attack and release times shall be adjusted, in lower frequency vice versa (low frequency: fast attack, fast release). Exception: De-Essing :)

  • @MasteringExplained

    @MasteringExplained

    2 жыл бұрын

    I'd say the other way around with the timings in general (short attack/release for higher freqs and longer times for lower freqs) but it all depends on what kind of effect you're looking for. Fast timings in the lowend can give a nice crunch. /Thomas

    GREAT video tutorial!!! a tip: Dynamic EQ and Multi-Band Compressor are better used to craft a particular sound or instrument or things like that. Because when you compress a frequency you'll be compressing that frequency in your final mix, all sounds (instruments, voices, etc) at the same time. But, of course, that's your call...

    To have this technique work properly its best to use multiple tdr nova's for individual sections that are taylored for the sounds and energy of each section that are automated to turn on and off for each part.

  • @piscesman54

    @piscesman54

    To use it in multiple tracks you would need to have a pretty powerful computer, because the one thing about Nova is that it's pretty heavy on the CPU. I have used it on kick, snare, bass and vocals at the same time, and that left me with limited computing resources, where the CPU started to stall.

    @@piscesman54 I use to say that if you're not aware about all you need to be the best and if you can't bear it, go do anything else... I recognize how GREAT TDR plugins are. But they have a weak point. That's all. If you're production demands less than 20 tracks, maybe that's not a problem...

    Wonderful video, appreciated! One question. ...at one one point there is blue signal all along the screen representative of the complete sound wave. On my version I have no idea how to activate this feature. It's present when you're adding low end back to the mix post compression. I'm sure it's a simple click but if you know I'd really appreciate it. Thanks again!
