Here I show you how to use table top clips, or z clips to fasten a tabletop. It's a pretty easy process and allows the tabletop to expand and contract according to climate conditions without it cupping or warping.

Good tips! Thanks for the info! What size Z Clip do I need for a 1” thick desk top? The ones I am finding are really small and I’m not sure if those will be strong enough.

Hey, thanks for checking out the video. I actually use the same clips when I do 1 1/2 inch, 2x4 or 2x6 lumber. I just space them closer together for a more secure fit. I've not seen any larger clips to use. If you end up finding any please come back and leave a comment. I'd love to check them out. Look up the figure 8 clips too. I've not used those but they may be another option.

Is allowance of 1/8” expansion enough for 32” wide x 1.5” thick top?

I think that depends on how much of a humidity swing the piece would be under. In my area there is not that much humidity. You can always back the clips out a bit more while ensuring that there is still enough in the slot to keep the top secure.

I have used z clips, but the table top slides too much (about 1/4 inch) for me. How can i secure it better?

Maybe push them into the slot thats in the aprons more. That, and I've used several clips before and that helped reduce the slide. In the future make sure the slot is not too deep. Let me know how it turns out!
