Great video. Thank you so much. I can't for the life of me figure out why Squarespace would roll out Fluid Engine to their million(s) of subscribers with so many bugs. The SEO thing, killing the intuitive mobile design that used to exist, I've also had the glitches where the software would freeze and crash....then all my new work would be lost. Ss did nothing like your great video which explains everything. There's literally no info on their site about how Ss works. No bug log....nothing. They just let all their users flop around like fish out of water. This demonstrates to me they really don't care about the end users and subscribers. It's simply a poor rollout. Do you think that they will fix the mobile issue with Fluid Engine or do you think they'll leave it as is?

What.A.Train.Wreck. I am taking your advice and holding off on making any changes to my two 7.1 sites (one was designed by you). I think the world is about to revert back to 1990-style HTML "designs" again making hodge-podge decisions on how to design their sites. I'm bummed out by SS's decision to NOT allow people to just maintain 7.1 sites with the old content editor.

I really hope they let us keep the classic editor so we can choose section by section which editor we want to use. I think that's the best of both worlds and allows so much flexibility while still having the option to use Squarespace's original layouts.

@@LocalCreative For sure, we really need BOTH. ...I really hope they reconsider moving forward as planned and force-implement FE at the end of the year. While CE has some limitations, it also renders consistent, stable, elegant, MOBILE FRIENDLY and user friendly design. FE would be a great *addition* not a prepacement.

Good synopsis! Squarespace really didn’t do much to explain this major shift to their editing feature. It changed what so many of us liked about SS - the simplicity of building a site and getting back to your business. Fluid Engine does give you more flexibility, but it creates so much more work to get there. I don’t want to be a web developer or designer. I want to build my business and create beautiful websites quickly and efficiently. I’m so disappointed that they didn’t leave the classic editor as an option. And then they raised prices! I’ve loved using SS since 2010, but now I’m rethinking it…

I know a lot of people are frustrated, but thankfully you can still access Classic Editor, at least for now! When you go to add a new section to a page, scroll down to the bottom of the list of section types and you'll seen an option to add Classic Editor sections.

Re: the accessibility issue mentioned in the video regarding block order and screen readers, Squarespace uses the mobile block order as mobile gives the most logical representation of each element's order in the section. So this isn't a problem in FE!

Hi Galen, Really love your content! I am putting together a site using fluid engine for the first time. I am noticing that within a section when I populate all of my content for the section and then make an edit, in this case remove a paragraph at the top of the section it leaves a gap. Am I missing something or do you have to bring all the content up manually? Thanks!

I think for me Fluid is a hard "no thanks" ... I'm looking for simplicity - ie I want to upload photos and have them look good ... no overlapping panels , no slabs of text , no amazing different design elements - just a place I can curate a gallery of shots easily in minutes - I barely want to learn the 7.1 design tools and I think Squarespace will be shocked by how few of the 'Classic' user base switches to the new tools

  • @LocalCreative

You can definitely still add galleries just like in the old version of Squarespace. Fluid Engine is pretty simple once you get the hang of it. It's definitely not for everyone though so I totally get it.
