Don’t know why I watched this, because I live in Berlin for twenty years now and I am German. The KZread way I guess. But for those who come to visit this city, this video is really useful, correct and on point. Really love to see someone who puts that much effort in this and thereby helps people! I love and hate Berlin. I was fascinated by the stunning scenery and rich history, but I was overwhelmed by the high cost. I think trainpal's discount coupon saved me.
Thank you. This was helpful. One note I would like to add for tourists is, if you have a validated German rail card, Interrail or Eurail train pass for the duration of your visit to Berlin, the S-Bahn, RE, RB, ICE, EC and EC trains are all covered by the passes. The U-bahn trains, buses, trams and ferries are NOT covered by rail passes. In fact the train rule applies to all of German cities with S-Bahn services.
I recently came back from Berlin and your vid made me go in search of the ferry. I rode it and it was indeed peaceful. Serenity❤

Very interesting video! Just moved to Berlin a month ago so I already knew many of the things that you covered. However I wasn't aware that I should show my ticket to the bus driver since at least from my experience nobody does that with double-deckers. Also as a student I thankfully get to travel for free as long as I have my student card with me. Anyway good job and keep the work up!

Thanks so much. Yes nobody really does it, and covid has made it slightly worse because I think sometimes the driver's entrance is even blocked by a soft plastic divider when covid cases are higher. These days are crazy!
Thank you for showing us what the ticket validation machines look like both for DB and for BVG...respectively red/white and yellow. I have searched other transportation videos trying to find these Entwertsmachinen only to find no description or photos of what to look for on the platforms.

Hey! Congrats for the great video! In case of the 7 days ticket (weekly), when and how should validate it? And once it is validated, should I validate it again every time I take a bus? Thank you!
@ExpatCaptures
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mariano, thanks for watching. Once you validate the ticket, you don't need to validate it again. The ticket will be valid for 7 consecutive days from validation and not 7 individual days.
You didn't mention the cheaper short distance ticket (at 3:44, in the right column). I think they are good for up to three stops away.
Thank you for this video. It was very informative and clear. If a person is moving to Berlin, do you recommend buying the annual ticket/VBB Eco-Ticket?
@ExpatCaptures
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tim! I don't think there's a difference if you're moving here. For the Eco monthly tickets you can also pay yearly, so it's just a matter of personal preference really.
thanks for this video! I'm not planning on going to Berlin specifically but this is definitely helpful. is the bus system through the rest of Germany similar to the one in Berlin?
@ExpatCaptures
2 жыл бұрын
Yes it is! The signs to the U-Bahn, S-Bahn, bus stop symbols and whatnot are all the same in Germany. The only thing that's different would be the public transport companies and potentially the prices. Each city has a local company for that.
@cbartsch
Жыл бұрын
@@ExpatCaptures And also sometimes you don´t stamp/validate your ticket because it is valid from the moment you purchase it from the machine in some other regional transport systems.
This has been very helpful. thank you. I went to berlin last year and had so much anxiety using public transportation. I'm pretty sure I forgot to validate. This time I think I know what to do. We are going to try to go to Potsdam from the city center. Any tips on the best way to do that using public transport? Thanks for the video! For some reason I had a lot of trouble on the S bahn. Those route placards seem to be hit or miss, and had a lot of trouble figuring out where it was actually going….even with Google maps (which ceases to work underground). Rode 3 wrong trains (apparently).

Thank you for the video and keep it going!!. I have a question. I will be arriving at the Willy Brandt from Singapore at 7.40am. I have a flight out to Amsterdam early next day. Since the hotel check in opposite the airport is only much later in the afternoon, i was thinking of going for a train ride and walk a little. This is my first overseas trip anyway. I am open for suggestions as long as i am back at the airport hotel by 4pm. Is there a scenic route train ride? I am a little confused about the AB C zone you had mentioned in your video. Since the airport is in Zone C, i am pretty sure that i will need to get the Zone C when i am returning to the airport. But do i need to get the Zone C when i am departing the airport? Thank you for your advice and sorry for my lengthy post.
@ExpatCaptures

Yes you need to get a zone C departing and arriving. The train is not really scenic, but that should be ok because Berlin is great!

Such a great video brother. I do have one question though. Aren't there any monthly cards for unlimited travel or something like that?
@ExpatCaptures
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Yes there is, but I didn't cover it because tourists rarely stay in just one city for an entire month, so it's usually just for locals. You can get those tickets at the machines too, and if you live here, you can get a yearly contract for even cheaper than those machine monthly ticket prices!
Thx for all the tips!! I'm wondering if the 49-euro nation wide public tix applies to the metro/subways/bus in Berlin also?

@Pasunreve212

@@ExpatCaptures it's a tix where u can take all regional trains and public transport (so I heard and bought ;) (and also just arrived in Germany ready to explore :))
Thank you for this video, it was very helpful, and it even made me chuckle a few times. I do have a question - BVG offers an extension card for zone C for a 24h ticket, that's 3,70 euro, but can I get a normal extension card that's 1,80 euro if i only need one trip (airport) with my 24 h ticket in AB zone?
@ExpatCaptures
Жыл бұрын
Thank you! And yes correct, if you plan to only travel within zone AB+C one time and then only travel within A and B afterwards, then there's no need for you to get a 24-hour Zone C extension ticket. If you plan to travel frequently to and from Zone C within 24 hours, only then does it make sense to get the 24 hour one. Hope that helps :)
Great video, thank you, only thing I’m not 100% sure of is if you have to validate your 24 hour ticket every journey or just prior to the first one? Maybe you could clarify, cheers
@ExpatCaptures
Жыл бұрын
No problem! Just the first one. It's a 24 hour ticket, so when you validate it, it will be valid for 24 hours. Validation doesn't really have to do with hopping on and off transport. Instead, it's to show when exactly a particular ticket type/duration takes effect.
Hi. Great video and very informative. I have a question about the berlin welcome card, do I validate only the first time I start using the public transport or do I have to validate it every time I use a bus or a train? Also, do you recommend buying the berlin welcome card online or when I get to Berlin? Thanks in advance.
@ExpatCaptures
Жыл бұрын
Hi there Constantina! Thanks for stopping by! If you prefer to buy it online and the website has all the information you need, then by all means do that. If you prefer to speak to a person, then simply go to one of the bigger stations in Berlin (like Hauptbahnhof, Alexanderplatz, Ostkreuz) and ask the office desk about the card. They'll help you just fine. You shouldn't have to validate it every time, but just ask the people to make sure. I've personally never actually bought one before as I've been a local resident anyway.
This was really helpful! Headed to Berlin soon and this definitely helped with navigation anxiety. Is there another way to get to AB without having to use IC from the airport? I'm mapping my route from the airport and it keeps saying I should us IC to transfer to S-Bahn. Any insight is much appreciated!

Thanks for the video. I have 2 qestions: How does one validate a ticket bought on the App. And, once one buys a ticket (say for zones AB) how many rides/days is it valid for? Many thanks
@ExpatCaptures
2 жыл бұрын
The ticket is validated in the app as soon as you buy it. Regarding your second question, it depends on the type of it ticket you bought. If you bought a daily ticket, then a day. A monthly ticket = a month. If you're talking about a single one-way ticket, then it should last 2 hours including any necessary transfers.
Do you have to validate the Deutschland Ticket as well before starting to use it?
