In todays video I show you how to use Pledge Floor Gloss as a clear coat for your model kits. This will work on plastic and die-cast as well as wood. This is super easy to use as you don't even have to thin it. You can also brush it on
smaller pieces as this self levels without brush strokes..
Be sure to clean your airbrush right after using it with hot water.

I love The fact you're so passionate about your hobby, you know a lot about airbrushing and from what I can see you are great at it as well, thank you for the Wealth of knowledge that you have share it with us. Have a great day!
Wow. Just yesterday I walked to the hardware store and bought my first bottle of Pledge/Future to try as a gloss coat. Then this morning this video is in my notifications. Thank you so much!
I just wanted to point out how much I appreciate being welcomed back to the bench in all the videos.
This is the go to channel for airbrush painting!
I've been building for about 45 years and I admit, when I started seeing this trick, I was extremely skeptical, but Im willing to at least try it. After scouring every store in three counties and coming up empty handed, I wound up ordering it off of Amazon. It arrived today while I was at work. I first did a test shot on a panel I use to test paint colors. After seeing no I'll effects after three coats, I set it up to cure, then I hit it with a used dryer sheet. After being satisfied it wouldn't hurt my paint, I proceeded to shoot it on a truck I'm building (AMT KENWORTH W925) The results are absolutely incredible!!! A nice, deep, uniform shine on all surfaces. Thank you for the great video and for sharing this. I'll be telling all my friends who build.

Mr. Rex another informative video. Three things, one it goes on thin and is ok in durability you have to be very careful if you want to use a rubbing compound for a better shine you'll will rub through it. Two, future pledge or any other floor polish is kind of like an acrylic polyurethane and can use it like you would use the Createx 4030 or any other model gloss varnish. Three you can use it to thin thick craft paint. It give it more adhesion and it makes the paint flow better. And on the Airfix starter kits where you the paint it with brush with the supplied paint I've brushed on Future clear as a basecoat it works like a primer but clear.............I've gone through bottles of this stuff through the years............Thanks Mr. Rex
For anyone watching this in 2023...just like so many other great products used in a lot of Barbatos's videos, this Pledge floor gloss is discontinued as of January of last year, and now scalpers are selling bottles for over $60 when it normally cost about $6-7. This method definitely isn't going to save you any money at this point

Amazing. Heard about this for years. TY.
If you mix the Pledge revive it with Tamiya X-21 Flat Base, you can adjust it from being a gloss to a satin, or even a flat. For example a ratio of 5:1 will produce a flat coat, where 10:1 will be somewhere between a flat and a satin, and 15:1 will give a satin finish.

Excellent work, as always.
Great Video!! Like you said "It's the poor mans 2K". You should have tried it over a darker color, it shows up better. A lot of purists insist that this should never ever be used on a model kit. Not everyone can afford the 2K nor is everyone going for a competition quality build. This does work well and I have never had any issues with any kit that I've applied it to. For clean up, I use straight ammonia to clean the Pledge Floor Gloss out of my airbrush when I'm done. After the ammonia bath I rinse with hot tap water. I've never had an issue with this method of cleaning. I also have a video concerning the use of Pledge on my channel.
Boy I wish I had your painting skills! I've used Pledge for awhile ...dipping windshields and headlights..it sprays so nice out of the airbrush....most importantly you spill it on the floor...who cares! Thank you again my brother....spray-on!

Good informations. Never saw such clean spray booth. 🤔
The cloudy polish is decent for making wargaming and military washes and is useful for terrain and dioramas. I don't know if it has any acceptable applications for car kits or gunplas as people want a factory finish. But this Pledge Future Shine stuff is awesome. When you find it, stock up. Lots of people use it on cockpits and windshields.

There's a paint I found at my local store called Unicorn Spit. I dunno much about it other that it's a Gel based paint and it's used on wood to stain it... Dunno if it's suitable for modeling but definitely am tempted to buy one and trying it out on a throw away project. Figure I'd tell you about it since you are really into exploring paints and tools.
anybody ever try clear shellac or miniwax gloss polycrylic for finish coat? I am excited to see how the iridescent inks do because i have a bunch of those from an art project i did a few years ago. i like watching you do it Barb because you wont ruin your airbrush like i would due to lack of experience with them. Excellent video…I use this and it works great. And if you need to you can wash it off.
It's good stuff. Very versatile. I actually use it to make thinner too. Just 50/50 pledge and distilled water. It seems to work great as a thinner and I could swear it helps the paint to level nicely too. Only caveat is that it turns matte paint into more of a semi gloss or satin finish. People use it to dip cockpits and windscreens etc into as well. Some even use it as an adhesive to fix those parts in place.

So I picked up a bottle of 'Revive It' from a local Ace Hardware Store (3rd one that I pass on the way home from work). No other stores like Walmart, Target or Meijers even carries them at all. The only one that carries it besides Ace is Amazon at twice the price, and some other vendors their are even way higher than that! Come to find out that it has now been discontinued by the manufacturer. My area Ace stores informed me that their warehouse still has about 300 in stock, so I ordered myself an extra bottle so I'm set for awhile... 😉

@barbatosrex9473
2 жыл бұрын
Nothing like this for Matt. I do like Tamiya and Mr Color Clear. For an acrylic I like Vallejo spray cans
I've seen it used as a medium for making washes, like GWs medium, for years. It used to be called Future Floor finish or Floor wax. Then they changed the name.
I actually still have a bottle of this from when it was "Future" brand. Got it out while watching this, and one thing that I notice is that it has turned from crystal clear, to slightly yellow. Hopefully that doesn't affect the finish over the years...
Pledge used to be Future. Johnson & Johnson acquired it and eventually rebranded it as Pledge. For a time, only the cloudy, lemon-scented was available. Fortunately, they re-released the old Future formula, but under the Pledge brand name. With regard to acrylic metallics: Vallejo Metal Colors are superb, followed by their Model Colour metallics; after Vallejo, Army Painter are excellent as are ProAcryl from Monument Hobbies. Though, only the Vallejo Metallic Colours are have a reasonable shine, the rest are rather dull and brushed-looking. Green Stuff out of Spain has some excellent metallic pigments/powders made from metal instead of mica and can be mixed with any medium you choose. So, if you prefer acrylics, you can mix them with acrylic, gloss, semi-gloss or matte medium and/or simply mix them with Vallejo's acrylic polyurethane varnishes. Personally, I have not tried mixing them with Pledge/Future floor polish, but I gave mixed acrylic paints with it for decades to make what is generally referred to as "magic wash", which is great for shadowing and weathering. Pledge also makes a good base for water-slide transfers. A note on Army Painter: pop the dropper off and stir thoroughly before shaking for 2 minutes prior to initial use. If they do not come with an agitator, a marine-grade 8mm metal bearing works, though I personally prefer hematite so, over the years there is no chance of rust.
I have a question about the best chrome look but…for car interior details! I want to paint some details like air vent frames etc. What kind of paint and clear coat you recommend for that kind of job? Green Stuff Chrome + Pledge Floor Gloss + 2K Clear coat should work? Thanks and greetings from Poland!! 🙌
Yea just found out the Pledge Floor Gloss has been discontinued it is available on Ebay and Amazon, for like $70 bucks, I guess I'll go with just a Acrylic gloss, out of a rattle can. this was a post from 2 years ago, no wonder.
hi your the bast . did try this kinds (us art supply . water based acrylic gloss clear top coat ) how to use

Ive used pledge for dipping my glass for a crystal clear finish. I also use it as a thinner for my acrylics and a topcoat prior to applying decals. Ive only used it twice as a clearcoat with mixed results. The first time I used it as a clear coat, it looked fantastic till it cured and dried to an uneven finish with micro bubbles. The second time I used it as a clearcoat, it was ok, but it didnt take tape and pulled off my decals. It has its purpose bit for ultra clear coats, I stick with laquer top coats I can polish

Great video - clear and to the point. Have you ever tried airbrushing Pledge onto clear parts? I can't get a smooth / clear result - may be due to the Pledge not going onto paint? (I am an amateur hobbiest.) Also, have you tried Pledge over Alclad Chrome (which can be difficult to clear coat)?
Hope it works on Reflective Mirror Chrome as a clear coat
Forgot to ask you about my airbrush. I have a creos platinum 289 that you recommended from Spray Gunner and it is a 0.3 needle and is my go to. You made a comment in this vid about changing the needle on you creos 270 from 0.3 to 0.5. Do you know if it possible to do this for the 289?. I guess I would need the 0.5 needle and nozzle but not sure if I would also need a different packing screw and needle cap. Hope you can put me straight.
Mr. Rex, a quick question. I use a portable compressor (saving for a proper compressor) and am wondering if this would be OK to spray with said compressor? Using a iwata neo w/ .3 needle, also a cheap brush that came with the compressor.

I looked around for this stuff here in Sweden a few weeks ago. The version I found has the same name and "tag lines" on it, "Pledge", "Revive It", "floor gloss" and "Original". But the bottle is white and the content had the same kind of look as Alclad Aqua Gloss (slightly milky). Seems it's not only the names that differ between different places it's being sold. I gave it a quick test but I wasn't a fan of how easily it starts running if you go even barely too thick with it, it's very very touchy. At least in my limited experience.
