How to use plastic wrap with watercolour: add texture, create abstract backgrounds and more
Ойын-сауық
Plastic wrap, cling film, Saran wrap, Glad wrap - they are all the same thing and a fantastic way of adding abstract geometrical patterns and shapes to your watercolour paintings. If you bear a few things in mind, it is a really easy technique.
I will take you through a few dos and don'ts and share examples of paintings where I've used it. We'll go through a few techniques too and I'll show you how to get crisp edges.
Every week I share a tip, trick or technique, so if you enjoy this please think about subscribing.
In the next film, I will explore other ways of achieving similar marks using different materials. We all need to be cutting down on our single use plastic, so I hope it helps!

Thank you Liz. The purple picture had me thinking of a flower on the left and a butterfly type bug on the right. Very interesting.

Thank you Liz. It’s been many years since I tried this. I once tried it on painting of a toad and it gave a lovely warty effect and also in the surrounding grass.

You just made the cling wrap thing _actually_ _useful_ instead of a stupid novelty

that is the best comment. just using any technique because you ca, ends up as a cliche. it needs to bring something to the painting.
Your paintings are breathtaking 😍

@@LizChadertonArt I'm watching your wonderful videos as Florida's hurricane Ian is going over my house. You're both teaching me and calming me by shutting down the crazy side of my brain. Lol Just a thought. Have you tried this method using Yupo paper? Might work well with the masking technique.

@@AFAskygoddess stay safe. It sounds wild. I’m glad you still have power. I haven’t used yup for ages to be honest. I might have to add that to my list! Look after yourself x
Doing this on wet paper, has that been my problem all along ?! I am never been able to get results, is this why ? Could it be this simple ? I hope so !

Not sure I understand? The paint has to be wet when you pit the wrap on. Move it around to get a good pattern and then leave it in place until the paint is dry before removing. Hope it works for you now 😊
Hiya Liz, The first reveal would be a great back/mid ground for a painting of ferns or undergrowth. Thanks very much x
