If you like Vroid and want to explore with Vroid models in Unity then these tutorials are well worth your time. This method of extracting the Mixamo data may seem like you are taking extra steps as you will reload the same character into Unity several times, but it preserves the capabilities built into Vroid. Well worth the extra steps, and plus once you are done you can simply remove the additional FBX file if you want to declutter. Well worth it though, because normally Mixamo animations aren't going to account for hair bones for example. With this method, in just a few minutes I have my character walking/running and looking extremely polished because of the hair physics included with the Vroid model.

Hi there! So one thing I found out is that contrary to popular belief, Mixamo rigs in different models are not the same. So we can't just download a random animation, otherwise we got some weird limbs movement. So we have to upload the model first, and then download the animation. The rig might be the sams, but the weights are a little bit different. But this is such a major improvement from the previous one!

@@ReForgeMode correct, so I came to the conclusion of downloading the FBX of the animation and then duplicating it after checking it works on a humanoid. The tutorial showing that you can upload your model up and then test the animation before downloading helps alot too because you can do the adjustments so it fits your model before downloading and ripping out the animation. :)

LOVE this!!! Super helpful! Question: If I want to add additional animations, do you have a tutorial for that? I'm sure there may be a slight variance in execution, such as having a certain animation happen upon a button press (like left stick or A for jump) rather than having it happen on Entry in the Animator, (I'm assuming this is why we saw the animation happen without doing anything, but I'm brand new to all this so idk what I'm doing). • @ReForgeMode

    2 жыл бұрын

Hmmm... only the arms? That is a weird case... If you click on the animation file in Project Window, can you play the animation in the Inspector Window? If your character moves normally, then the problem would be in how you set up the animator. If the character's arms don't move in the inspector preview, then the problem is in Mixamo. Did you change any settings in Mixamo before downloading the animation? If the slider setting for Character Arm Space is at its lowest, your character won't move.

Of course, since VRM uses a Toon Shader and Mixamo can't handle custom shaders. You could try to install this plugin to Blender: github.com/saturday06/VRM_Addon_for_Blender There are some similar plugins, but basically they allow you to import VRM file into Blender directly. You could also try to fix the material problem in Unity and then exporting the character prefab to FBX. Oh... There's a lot to explain here... First, let's make sure that you're using the same version as the project files. Unity tends to break when you're exporting lower version project to higher version. Let's talk with the Play Mode. Before you press Play Button, you can adjust the setting in your Game View Window. The setting "Maximize on Play" makes it so that the entire Unity screen is focused only on the game window. If you want to edit while the game is playing, I recommend switching it to Enter Play Mode Focused. For more information on Play Mode, check out this documentation: docs.unity3d.com/2022.1/Documentation/Manual/GameView.html When you are in Game View Window, zooming on it only scales the screen up. Instead, when your character is far away, you want to move your camera to be nearer to the character. You can move the camera in the Scene Window. Also, any changes in the scene view during Play Mode will not be saved, and will be reverted when the Play Mode is stopped. If you're new, I highly recommend you to check on the free and official Unity beginner tutorial on their website right here: learn.unity.com/ Making games with Unity is a lot of fun and it's always rewarding. The more effort you put into learning it, the more fun you have with it. Good luck!

  • @ReForgeMode

Hmmm... That maybe because of Gamma Color Space in Unity. You need to change it to Linear Color Space through the Project Settings. Alternatively, it could also because of the material not using UniVRM shader. You can select each Material and change its shader to MToon shader. Or... You can skip this entire headache by just download Mixamo default model animation, then use it to your model. You don't need to upload your model to Mixamo.

You don't need to have a model if you just want an animation. What you can do, is to animate a blank regular humanoid character and export it as FBX to Unity. It doesn't even have to be your VRoid model. So you only need to import you model to Unity once through UniVRM.

Right. It's mostly because our VRoid models merged the clothes and hair mesh directly into the model. Sometimes it works with simpler models, sometimes it doesn't The solution here is that you can just skip uploading to Mixamo entirely. Just download the blank animation with basic model from Mixamo and proceed with the tutorial. Make sure to set your VRoid model and Mixamo model as "Humanoid" in the import setting

A much more annoying probably with my VRoid Model (VRM to FBX) is that the face and hair meshes are sperate from the body mesh. This is causing their rendering to stop within an meter viewing of them, while the body mesh continues on normal with it's rendering working fine even if you get really close up until clipping into the model.

  • @ReForgeMode

That is a general problem with VRoid models as well. Maybe there's a way to tweak it by adjusting the camera and render order. But I haven't looked into it yet.

Disclaimer that I'm not your lawyer. If you're talking about copyright, yes it is entirely safe! All Mixamo animations, VRoid Studio, and UniVRM plugin can be used for commercial purposes. Of course, for VRoid that only applies to your own models or the default VRoid presets models. If you're talking about future updates that can make this program obsolete, I would say it's safe. You don't need to update any of the software to keep it running in the future.
