The teacher demonstrates great kung fu skills and how the kung fu wooden dummy applies to fighting. I took some kung fu classes, not from this school, but a long time ago, somewhere else.

Any recommendations for an at home wooden dummy, as far where to buy or what to avoid? 😅

Hello Steven, I’d recommend finding a used Muk Yan Jong, as new ones can be quite expensive, often costing well over $2000. The best way to find a wooden dummy is through word of mouth. If you know anyone who trains in Ving Tsun, ask around. Many people buy one and, when they stop training, it often sits unused in their basement. They are usually willing to sell it at a good price. Additionally, you could check with your local Ving Tsun schools or look for listings on Marketplace or Craigslist. I always advise my students to prioritize training over tools. If you’re enrolled in a Ving Tsun school, they should have a jong available. Many of my students practice on the jong after class. Avoid the cheap, thin ones or PVC imitations; instead, get a proper wall-mounted hardwood dummy. Buick Yip jongs are particularly good if you can find one.
