Ok ok for the English folks among us ;-) Hi @Smart Home Junkie. I have a wee question. How do I create a helper that makes my AIrcon turn off after, lets say 30 minutes? I have an automation that normally turns it off after it has attained a cdrtain temperature in the room where it's located but lets assume I am stil warm and I would like to keep it running for another hour. I am not coming out of it. PS the Coffee machine turn on helper is stil brilliant.

  • @SmartHomeJunkie

    @SmartHomeJunkie

    I would say create a boolean helper for instance with the name "keep_airco_running" and create an entity card in lovelace to switch this helper on and off. In the conditions of your automation that turns the helper off you can then check if this helper is turned off. If so, the airco is switched off by your automation. If the helper is on, the airco will keep running until you turn it off manually.

  • @SmartHomeJunkie

    Thanks for your kind words. I think this should work of your shutter has an attribute for the percentage which you can find out through the developer tools->states. Then set this attribute to the value of the helper just as how the video demonstrates. Maybe you need a bit of yaml for this.

    Great video ... nice learning new stuff in HA. I am trying this in a slightly different way. I want to turn a smart plug on when the temperature of a sensor goes below a certain value. this value should be defined by the helper as in your example. yaml -> alias: heat on off description: '' trigger: - type: temperature platform: device device_id: 8773296105ec409bf965ba3e790724a5 entity_id: sensor.temp_sensor_guest_room_2 domain: sensor below: 15 condition: [] action: - type: turn_on device_id: f78ad064af4a003572bbf0f7870319c1 entity_id: switch.on_off_plug_in_unit_17 domain: switch mode: single how to set the 'below' parameter (hardcoded at 15 at the moment) to read the value from the helper? Your example returns an error. Thanks Dan

    Would it be possible to use a pressure sensor underneath your matrass (to detect if you are going to bed) and then take the current time value and use that as the helper time? That would result in just hitting the bed and everything would turn off, that would be awesome :D

    Great video. I'm trying to figure out if it is possible to create a helper or similar to use a smart plug without power monitoring to calculate the energy usage. I use the smart plugs in automations, and HA knows how long the plug is on or off. Having a electrical heater with know power connected to such a plug will enable HA to calculate the energy usage when knowing the duty cycle and manually inputting the heaters power. I have tried to set up a helper to do this, but the smart plug do not show up as a input sensor in the "Add utility meter", so I am kind of stuck. Thanks for any advice if you have any input to this.

    @@SmartHomeJunkie Thanks, yes I experemented with that and it is for sure a possible way to do it. However, now I found a powerful HACS integration that does everyting I'm looking for: PowerCalc. For me who do not have any Smart switches with power/energy monitoring it is a fantastic tool. It will create sensors for power and energy and can also create daily, weekly and monthly entities if wanted. I can add a constant power usage to a plug or use more advanced power schemes. It has look up database for power usage of a ton of different devices. The energy entities can be used in the HA Energy Dashboard to give full overview of the energy usage. PowerCalc is a truly wonderful add on and I highly recommend it. All the best.

    I'm here again asking help to you. I'm using several D1mini in my home automations. As some GPIO's are pullup and pulldown on boot, and as I'm using all I/O's I must create a power-on delay timer to supply some devices, in order to not affect the boot of microcontrollers. So far, I have the power-on delay timer independently of the microcontroler, and runs well, but I think that HA can handle this delay timer internally with a switch. How can I achive that with a timer and an automation? Any tip?

    I had hoped to use your example to trigger an automation based on the current date/time versus date/time stored in a helper I created. The logic would be "Do X unless the date/time in Y is within Z seconds of the current time. The use-case is whether motion in front of a door was triggered by an arrival (camera motion sensing suggesting a package delivery) or us, opening the door and going to get the package. Not sure how to achieve this. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks!

  • @SmartHomeJunkie

    Hi! Interesting use case! As far as I understand, you want to open the door based on motion,unless it's a certain date and time. I would say, do the date time test in the condition of the automation. Not sure if I understood your question correctly.

  • @SBinVancouver

    @@SmartHomeJunkie yes, mostly. The logic would be "if camera motion was detected, announce package delivery, unless the front door was recently opened suggesting that we're going outside to get a package]". I tried setting my target temperature based on an input number helper, but when I save, and go back, the value for temperature changes from: {{ states('sensor.target_temp') }} to: "[object Object]": null and the automation doesn't update my thermostat's target temperature. The sensor.target_temp is a min/max input helper that takes the minimum of the desired target temperatures set by different automations.
