You can also just right click on the middle of the route (where you want an ‘anchor point’) and choose “Add Destination” from the right click sub-menu. It will put add it to the route, in the correctly sorted order. Not a big thing. A tiny bit easier if you create a lot of routes.

Do not forget that in Google Maps under Options you can eliminate toll roads, freeways, and ferries as route options.

That's the same method I like to use, as well! The 'super slab' is typically not scenic as the highway roads that are around. The Google Maps options are handy to plot out some scenic paths. I never considered using Google sheets to plot out further routes - brilliant.

Hi , I use syci for this sole purpose on my motorbike . I can set my A to B points, once I've selected start , I can the go back to the route, tap the screen on the road you want to ride and the system will automatically re-route using your way point. You can alter your route this way for as many times as you like. It's free to try, but it's really cheap licence to get sl, the functions. Give it a try, I find it better than, Google, calimoto, also there's a free app called Here we go. It's pretty good as well. Like everything though , it takes getting used to , but it's worth it. 🇬🇧

@@nightofthe8765 how about this: making a route that avoids bigger cities (desktop must be better choice, more precision), then writing down, on paper, where (places, or some pointers on the road, like "field, mountain to the north, river, bridge, factory on the right" or so) you need to turn, and then keeping that paper infront of you while riding. offcourse, android offline maps and good paper maps as a backup. and a gallon and a half of extra fuel in tank, as you'll get lost anyway....heh...

@@goofyfoot2001 OMG! I literally had that issue yesterday. Was riding home from visiting a friend, 200 miles or so. Picked a nice route that I know has less traffic and overall more relaxing to ride. Half an hour into the ride, I notice that I'm on the wrong road. Check google maps, it changed the route just like that. I fixed it, went on, only to discover another half an hour into the trip that it changed it back again. I got super fed up, especially because it was really hot and there was a lot of congestion on the roads it was taking me on. I think it prefers to take the faster or shorter route, but sometimes a longer route has less traffic and is more enjoying.

Great video. I planned a short ride and used the spreadsheet idea. Worked perfectly. The only issue I have is that when I send the map to a friend or pull up on the phone, When the link is clicked for that leg of the route the app seems to change the route to the shortest route. So all the work pulling the path to roads we want to travel is basically over ridden. I have checked in the nav settings if there is anything I can do to avoid the change but haven't figured out a fix yet. At least the spreadsheet saves some of the broader info so I'm not starting from scratch trying to recreate the route. Suggestions welcome.
