    Hi Eddy, great content mate! I'm just starting with my electronics journey while 40 years old. I never had any understanding of electronics, just starting to touch the surface now. As an enthusiastic audiophyle I challenged myself to create awesome power supplies. Until now I paid big bucks for those famous brand audiophile LPS's to feed my streamers and DAC's, now I want to understand the concept myself and start experimenting by building my own ones. Your content helps me a lot in understanding things and how to bring things in practice. Thanks for that! Oh, and I have the 1202x-e and I'm trying to find out how to use it to analyze and interprete LPS's, that's how I got here :)

    Good job for knowledge Sharing .I had being teaching industrial technician/engineer using electronics tools/equipments for more than 15 years. Many of Master/PhD degree people keep their knowledge as Top Secret and not willing to share out their information. The Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is one case. Those selfish people judge people that you must have PhD degree in order to understand it .They think they are wasting time to teach/tell you. Since 25 yrs ago I started to Self-training through Internet ! Whoever ask me anything I know( wether you are Primary School standard ,Secondary School standard) I will answer their curious-mind. This is how the Human Knowledge pass down for generations . Thanks again for information sharing through Internet ! Good job done .

    KL Ong Thank you for the nice feedback. I agree with you - so many advanced concepts can at least be understood if simplified and placed at a useful level. We don’t all need to know how to derive a formula to understand how it can be used. A lot of those theoretical folks can not put the knowledge to practice. I found professors who wouldn’t or couldn’t explain how to use the theory in a simple design example. Thanks for your input - much appreciated!

    @@KissAnalog My experience is that most MS and PHDs in the engineering world are specialists in a very narrow area of study, they really are useless to general problem solving. I think, they didn't know what to do with their BS degree, they really had no engineering talent, but they were good at being a professional student. So thinking more school would fix the problem they stayed that course. In my experience of university and working career, I've only met one PHD that I thought had talent. He was a generalist.

Many sources explain it in detail. It is not trivial. It may be better to start with DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform) to understand FT at all. Then proceed to discover how the FFT leverages discrete Fourier Transform and why it is dramatically faster.

    I did a search for FFT and your channel came up. I'm a retired EE. I never did any work with log type measurements, the example you showed on the ripple simulation was very informative. My current task is one with my metal working hobby. I want to use an accelerometer to balance grinding wheels. As even micro imbalance causes surface grinder ripples, as well on the tool post grinder, surface waves. So I want to use the Rigol 1054Z to measure the RMS peak of a 60Hz two pole motor spinning the wheel. I may not be able to fix the problem, but I'll learn something. As usual, the hobby is more fixing the tools, then using them.

    I'm glad you found this channel! Sounds like you have an interesting task. Should be possible, and fun working it out. Do you already have the Rigol? Log will help if the signal is comparing or monitoring both small and large values. It helps compress the signal so that the small stuff doesn't get lost in the resolution.     @@KissAnalog I've had the scope for 3 years now. I just got the accelerometers in the mail, so will connect one up and stick it on a motor to see what the signal looks like. Don't know if I will need to use an opamp to amplify or not. Grinder motors are 2 pole so run at 3600RPM minus slip. So effectively signal at 60Hz is the amplitude of interest.

    Another great video. I was looking up FFT and wouldn't you know it you have a video on it. If you revisit this in the future maybe you could go a little deeper maybe showing crosstalk and filtering for it.

    What a awesome explanation man. Thank you for this video. I somehow missed it going through your back catalog. My hantek has horrible fft haha I find it crazy how the fast Fourier transform math was created over 100 years before oscilloscopes existed.

    @@KissAnalog I texted you today. I hope I didn't step over any boundaries. I wanted to send you some pics of decent budget meters and some garbage 2 dollar ones. Along with different tiers of the cables. You can still purchase all the items on Amazon. I need to make space so the stuff will just rot in a box or you can have them and do what you want with them. There's like 3 completely bottom end ones, 2 50 dollar ones and 1 130 dollar one. Canadian dollars of course. Two of them, the 50 dollar zotek autoranger price varies from 50 to 100 depending who rebranded it and the owon b35t+ ranges from 75 to 150. No strings attached. Just maybe stuff for future comparisons.

    Hi Eddie , for practicing such things I dont want to use my hi voltage amplifiers. Rather something with less than 30V I guess. What do you think of getting a AC variac (250VAC) that will work for my amps project to start them safely etc. Or to get one transformer for example 230/30V AC? Thank you for recommendation ! Jacek

    Yes it is exactly what you want to do for EMI and to have clean power. You hit the nail on the head! I’ll show how filtering can be compared by looking at the FFT. Awesome question!!! Thanks!

    That’s a great question. I looked at the daily sheet and then the user manual to look into this. It looks like it has a lower points count. So it will look OK, but maybe not quite as good. You can focus in on a harmonic and use the resolution that way to get better images

    yes, I think so... The 1x limits the bandwidth, and can potentially change the signal that you are reading as it can load it. So, I like to use the higher impedance 10x.

    Dang, when you want to trigger on a small AC signal riding a large DC signal, that's when you switch trigger coupling to AC. Or in this case just us AC coupling for the signal as well and ignore the 3.3 volt DC.

    A friendly side note: You keep touching the screen. The SDS1202 is not a touch screen. There is NO reason for you to touch it! All you are doing is mucking up the screen with fingerprints...thanks for the FFT vid. I just got the SDS1202-E-X today, AND am using a 3.3v ps with an accelerometer and the scope's FFT for vibration analysis.

    nahh why not keep it barebone.. and create the scenario a user would meet, and all down to earth.. all this waveform generator and then I will use this waveform and this DC negative offset and this and this. and all this chabang can then symbolize a power supply with some special features but whatever' likely not the correct video for me. Looking for videos with scopes, where one is actually taking real-world everyday things and showing the advantages you can use a scope for and basic ABC approach..
