How To Use Factory GM XM Antenna for Aftermarket SIRIUS XM Tuner - Easy

This is a quick video showing how to easily convert the factory XM radio tuner antenna in 2003-2006 (and 2007 Classic) GM trucks to work with almost any aftermarket Sirius, XM or SiriusXM tuner module.
Works with Sierra, Denali, Yukon, Silverado, Escalade, Escalade EXT, Avalanche, Tahoe, Suburban and more.
This does not affect the function of the factory OnStar system.

Thank God that I found this video!! I was told by Crutchfield that I could not use the factory antenna & was just looking to see how to run the new antenna up near the factory one on my '06 Siverado, having to drop the headliner, etc.... This is unbelievably EASY!!! Cant wait to start installing my new Kenwood unit tomorrow! Got to love KZread!! You can find out how to do almost anything if you look enough!

99% of the time I would trust Crutchfield over any local shop. In fact I highly doubt they said you couldn't use the factory antenna. Especially since they sell adapters for just that.

Man… thank you thank you thank you. I’m installing an Alpine X308U into a 2007 F-150. The company that sold me the equipment said the ford factory’s antenna…. I just plugged in the factory antenna and it works perfectly.

I just have to say - this is one of the best videos I have ever seen - seriously. My XM reception is unbelievably good using that factory antenna. So much better than FM - which has constant interference. I have an 06 Envoy Denali. It has the same factory setup - the XM receiver is under the glove box. I swapped in a Kenwood head unit and use the same SiriusXM SXV200v1 tuner as shown in your video. In the Envoy, the GM factory XM antenna connector looks the same as yours on the outside but it’s a slightly different design. You have to pull out a clip located on the side of the plastic antenna connector. Then you can press the metal center barrel out of the connector and it plugs right into the SXV200v1 just like you show in your video. The wires are just long enough to reach. I used a bit of tape to make sure the connector does not slip out. There are extension cables out there if your factory XM tuner is located elsewhere in the vehicle. Really great and simple mod and you can go back to the factory setup if you ever sell your vehicle (just put the connector back, plug it in and re-install the factory radio).

I'm finally replacing my stock GM radio on my 2005 Silverado and I was on the fence about whether or not to keep my XM subscription. I found this video and since I can use my GM factory antenna with the new SiriusXM adapter, I decided to go that route. Got the adapter today and hooked it up in about 2 minutes. Thanks a bunch for posting this video.

Well you wouldn't have to buy an extra part anyways as the satellite tuner would come with the antenna. This just saves you from having to find a place on the roof and run the wire for the antenna. Just keeps it cleaner on the outside. You still need to buy a satellite tuner.

Using an SC-C1 would require a transfer of your subscription as it is a different S.I.D. number. Whether or not they will allow you to transfer your lifetime subscription I'm not sure. Since they don't offer lifetime anymore they might give you a hard time about it. I'm sure they want to try and get you out of that plan any way possible.

Your stock antenna is not a Satellite antenna. It cannot pick up a signal from the xm satellite. You can buy an adapter to connect the audio OUTPUT of the xm radio to your factory antenna input on the stock radio, but that is totally different than what I am demonstrating in this video.

Does this mean that my 2006 does not have an XM tuner in the head unit? It has the shark fin antenna on the roof but no module in the glove box. I have a lifetime subscription. I know I can transfer it from a wrecked car to my new one. I suspect the vehicle isn't as important as the radio ID. I would like to put a factory GM XM radio into my truck. It's an older truck and I can modify the dash if needed. Can you recommend the oldest year GM XM ready radio to use? Is it possible that the add on modules could be considered for the lifetime subscription package? I really don't want to put the lifetime subscription into our replacement car; I'd like to put it into my old truck. Can you provide some comments about this? Thanks.

If its older, most likely you will not be able to. The data is transfered via a data bus system for the xm tuner and the stock head unit. If it's an older vehicle without data-bus, it will not work.

Question...I have an 03 monte carlo. It has sirius xm built in to it from the factory. There is a little box in the trunk(which I'm assuming is the receiver) and I assume it gets it's signal through the factory antenna. I just purchased an aftermarket pioneer double din head unit that is sirius capable. When I called car audio shops they said I would need a separate tuner and adaptor piece with a separate antenna and it runs about $150. Is there any way around this or am I going to have to buy the separate piece?

They are correct. You need the SXV-200 adapter just like they described. The box you're seeing in the trunk is most likely the amplifier. Not sure if they mount the XM tuner back there or not. You could use the stock XM antenna in the vehicle as long as the stock tuner is near the radio. The cable on the SXV200 is not very long. If the factory tuner is indeed in the trunk area, you will need to use the antenna supplied with the new adapter.

Thank you for the part number tho...I found it on eBay for $34.99. About $115.00 cheaper than quoted. Amazing how the shops try and mark things up!!! Really boils my blood...that's why I try and do everything I can myself! Save a lot of money that way !!!

The $150 was probably an installed price. That part retails for $99.99, $50 was probably labor. That's about what we charge installed at our shop.. Its not ripping people off, its making a living. Internet retailers sometimes only make literally a few dollars off each part. They make it up in volume. As a small local shop, you just can't do that.

rtkota5point9 Yea, I understand they have to make a living but it's still ripping ppl off. The part is not $99. I just said I found it on ebay for $34.99. They can make a living off other ppl...not me. Same with repair shops. Especially one's that use grid pricing for labor. Long time ago I needed a tie rod end installed on a Lumina I had. They quoted me around $345 for parts & labor. Idk y but something told me to call autozone and check on the price of a tie rod end for my y,m & m. $7 dude. $7! So you're telling me labor would have been $338? Even at dealer labor prices (around $90 hr) they are saying it would have taken them 3.75 hrs. Which is false. They have all the proper tools and a lift. I went and bought the part and installed it in a little over an hr. Every since then I do my own work when I can. I have one of those repair books for my car and short of dropping an engine in or rebuilding the trans, I do it myself. Once again I know they have to make a living and pay others but not on me. My grandmother always told me never pay others to do what you can do yourself!

Is the factory installed SiriusXM tuner I already have in my 2007 Trailblazer not pin compatible with after-market "XM ready" radios? Just trying to save a few $$
