HOW TO USE EPOXY RESIN ON AIR DRY CLAY PINS FULL DIY PROCESS

Hi guys!
In this week's video I am making a new batch of #airdryclay #pins. I have always felt that I am not satisfied with the way I attach the pin clasp on the back of the pins. I wanted to make them more secure and not use glue. So I started looking into #resin. I purchased a two component resin set and tried it out for the very first time in his video. I love the results. I feel everything looks way more professional and clean. Here is the full process of me making these air dry clay pins and sealing them with #epoxy resin. Please leave your thoughts in the comments.

    your video is amazing! do you think that if i use epoxy resin on a clay ashtray i’ve made it will make it safe to use? i know regular polishes aren’t fireproof so you can’t light cigarettes off on them as it will leave a stain and it isn’t that safe. do you think the epoxy resin will be the best option for coating in this case?

  • @AncaPoraIllustration

    @AncaPoraIllustration

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Kyrie. I am so sorry about. Your furbaby. You dont necessarily need a base of acrylic paint but sometimes resin and varnishes tend to turn the clay a bit yellow. Adding a base coat prevents that from happening as it acts like a barrier between the clay and resin. It really depends . But if you want to decorate it i would recommend you add a base coat just in case . Hope this helps

    Thank you! I will look into UV resin. The clasps I got from a local art supply shop. But I am sure you can find some on amazon

    I want to ask. Is UV resin fireproof? I am planning to make an ashtray with clay but I'm afraid that the cigarette makes the clay burnt

    No, UV resins or 2 component epoxy resins are not heat resistant. I don't expect them to instantly catch on fire when you push a hot cigarette against a resin coated surface, but it will probably damage the material with burn marks, discoloration and deformation.

    Working with resin without gloves (both hands) and an airmask is very dangerous and should not be shown like this. It could be very dangerous to use it at home. Maybe you could use other components for your nice pins?

    Thank you for the advice. I will be more careful with it. However I mixed a very small amount and from my understanding the two components are not toxic . It's just the reaction from mixing them. I used just one glove as with the other I used the stick for adding the resin on the pins. And I was very careful as to not let it touch the skin. I have used varnish until now but I wanted to give resin a try as i love the glossy finish and that i can attach the clasp easier to the back.

    no you don't need to add water to resin. it depends on the type of resin you want to use. there is the 2 part resin in which you have to mix 2 components and the regular UV resin which usually comes premixed. leaving it out in the sun speeds up the drying process
