How to Use Delay on Acoustic Guitar + My Favs ★ Acoustic Tuesday 265

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I used to think using a delay pedal on acoustic guitar was crazy. Now, I recommend every acoustic guitar player to get a delay pedal. Why?
Delay pedals have the ability to fill space. When you're playing by yourself, it can feel empty sometimes. By using a delay pedal, you can almost hear harmonies and dissonance when your playing a run, practicing scales, or playing melody and fills.
Besides filling space, using a delay pedal helps you learn to groove. Because of the delay in notes, you have to keep time. If you don't your notes will overlap in odd ways. If that's the effect you're going for, rock on. But if not, you'll learn to keep time quickly!
Delay pedals are also expressive. If you feel like you've hit a creative rut, try playing some scales through a delay pedal. Seriously, you'll be surprised by what you hear.
Delay pedals have tons of knobs, features, and switches. It can look intimidating to a first-time buyer. I'll go over some of the features in this video, but if I didn't address an aspect of a delay pedal, let me know by leaving a comment!

Oh yeah. Love the LR Baggs. And love the Boss DD-8, particularly for the reverse delay and shimmer modes.

Hey Tony, you put so much work into your AL episodes and I think you do an awesome job, I have learned so much from you. Thank you for explaining about delay. I really liked this review because it gave me an overall idea of how delay works. I feel a bit intimidated walking in to a guitar store and plugging in a guitar and playing. Especially if I were to experiment with a pedal that I know nothing about. So to get some insider knowledge is very helpful. In the past, delay for me just reminded me of Pink Floyd, trippy and out there. But watching you play with the various delays, I can see that it could be a lot of fun. I loved what you were playing with the Strymon. Not Pink Floyd at all! Would it be possible in future episodes to explain other pedals like reverb, compresion and even EQ pedals please? Keep rockin' and many thanks from Sydney!

My favorite Delay for Acoustic Guitar is from Kong Tone Works, and it's a 301dl dynamic echo. I'm not sure if it's even made anymore, but it sounds awesome and has some great features.

So all the delay examples was having the delay take over the show, im sure you probably know that using a delay functionally is to have it back in the mix to slightly trail into a reverb so that notes extend but not heavily repeat otherwise your going for just a hard core effect vs creating a beautiful ambient guitar sound.. anyways rock on as anything goes.. but always best to make music with whatever your doing or using

My Fender Acoustasonic SFX2 has effects built in, including delay. I use a mix of reverb or chorus and delay for playing and recording. It just thickens it up nicely. No pedal, except to turn effects on or off that came with the amp.

One other option is the Tonewood Amp. It has delay, reverb, tremolo and more. Plus you don’t need an amplifier. I love mine. Works great with my Martins and an Orangewood.

Don't know if I can name a favorite as I haven't owned too many delay pedals, but I've had great success with the MXR Carbon Copy mini, ToneDEQ and believe it or not, the Behringer VD400 Vintage Delay. When I first started dabbling in pedals I bought the Behringer products because it wasn't a big monetary commitment. Since moving into the pricier pedals I've discovered many of the Behringer products hold their own against the heavyweights and many have the exact same circuitry. At some point I want to dig into the Align series, too.

I have so much fun with Strymon Big Sky. electro harmonix Canyon also fun. And Carbon Copy. My Amp is Fishman LoudeBox mini, K&k pickup. I am so lucky to have a couple of very nice guitars, but my favorite to play with pedals is my little Baby Martin. It sounds so, so good with these pedals it's just silly. The higher end and bigger guitars have so much natural resonance, harmonics, and reverb that the pedals can scramble them. The Baby Martin is perfect for pedals. The other thing about the Baby Martin is that it is the guitar I have out. Always keep the others cased and humidified, etc. I am so precious with them that they wind up being played far less than that Baby M. Baby M is always within reach.

Hi Tony. I am a complete amateur acoustic fingerstyle player. I don’t perform. I play with my guitars. That being said, I don’t want to spend a ton of money on pedals. I have been looking at getting a Sonicake Sonic Wood acoustic pedal to mess with. It seems very simple and it is less than a hundred bucks. Give it a look.

Hi Toni, everything sounds better with delay delay delay ........delay ........ etc. I was wondering if an up to date video on all things humidity related would be good? The products now available are bewildering. I recently got very confused with a product designed to rehumidify a dry guitar and another that is meant to just maintain good humidity within your case.

I don't use delays, I'm really trying to get a true acoustic sound on my Martins as I'm a Bluegrass style player and only plug in as a last resort (read rock'n'roll style PA).

I've always thought that once you put a pickup on an acoustic guitar you no longer have a true acoustic guitar. I know you're not going to call it an electric guitar but isn't it? I've never figured out a good name for an acoustic guitar that isn't entirely an acoustic guitar once the electronics get connected to it but I'm going to keep working on coming up with one.

Thanks for info. I am doing amateur fingerstyle songs as a hobby with Orangewood Sage Mahogany and go ‘ambient’ when I plug in. I use the tcElectronics Flashback Triple delay. Buffered bypass allows me to create a drone on one channel and then another delay (or 2) catering to the song. I can’t take credit for this..Check out Chords of Orion channel.

I love how these KZread'rs always appear to be really interested in our comments but in reality there have no interest at all. Just wanting the YT algorithm to go up and pay them. Theres no interaction at all with any of these good people below who took time to write to you. Theres only 30 comments. But you're obviously too busy to write to them.

So sorry to notice that every comment so far here has a spam reply. All from the same abuser. That sucks. I’ve posted comments and gotten the same type of replies here and on other guitar sites. Makes me afraid to post comments, but here I go again. I reported a bunch of these replies above and urge others to do the same. Hope that helps.
