How to Use Deepnest for Lasercutting (Glowforge)
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Deepnest.io is an awesome program that is used to nest elements together for laser or CNC cutting. It's very simple to use and after one or two quick adjustments will become an awesome part of your workflow.
In this quick tutorial, I will show you how to export your Illustrator file, nest the elements with Deepnest, and then export it correctly for the Glowforge interface.

I was looking for videos on an area in Hollow Knight, but this laser cutting software is pretty cool. Nice tutorial.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this! I look forward to trying this as I have had various projects where this would have saved me so much time and materials.
Panthera You explained it very clear , thank you from Muslim in Saudi Arabia
Nice tutorial, straight and to the point, thanks for sharing.
Super helpfull also for my SketchUp to CNC workflow, thanks for taking the time!
So helpful!!! Thank you
So helpful! Thank you!
This was so helpful, thank you! I
Thanks for the video.
Thank you so much :)
I tried to use Deepnest, but it is so slow that after a few minutes still nothing appear. I don't know if it's because my SVG file is too complex or that there is some bugs in the program.
This excites me! I have been looking for an affordable solution for my swimwear production. Now only an affordable laser cutter for spandex
Thanks!
friend thanks for the explanation... I have a question... to export the file in DXF how should I name the file? .. Thank you
I keep trying over and over but when I Start Nest I end up with the next screen and Stop Next with a spinning bubble next to it....no movement towards nesting the items. Any ideas?
So what will it do if your items have a combination of different actions (some cut lines, some engrave lines, some score lines)? When you import it into deepnest will it keep those as is or assume that everything are cut lines?

Deepnest unfortunately will not keep those elements (like different colors) - it will turn everything to a cut line, and some objects break apart. In those cases I just arrange by eye. Sometimes I find I'm better than Deepnest when it's not a ton of elements.
Thank you for your video. Is it possible to see what percentage of sheet is used? I can not find that.

Great suggestion! I would imagine that is part of the internal metrics used for selecting the best nest. It would be cool percentage used right beside laser time saved.
Como faço para aliminar as multipontos quando exporto?
It keeps placing my items on top of each other for some reason, could you please help me resolve this?
How do you it if you have different layers in your svg then send it to deepnest and bring it back without losing your layers? Cut layers or engrave layers?

I don't think that's possible unless you do each layer separately.
is there a way to use cm or mm instead of inches?

After exporting the file after nesting, the color of outline changes to default (black). is there any way to retain the outline color?

At this time I don't believe so, that's the main drawback of using nesting software like this, so you either need to reapply them after or export the different steps individually where possible.

I manually added .DXF to the output file, and it opened up in eDrawings just fine. However, even though the DXF export units were set to mm, the dimensions in the exported file were inches (i.e., a piece I knew was 590x220mm saved as 14986x5588mm, which is 590x220 inches), so there seems to be some scaling ignored or not implemented somewhere.
I had so great hopes for this software, but honestly im disappointed from the outcome result. I've tried nesting with relatively simple shapes and also complex ones - in both case scenario i was able to optimize the material and cutting time 2x better, for just a little more time than deepnest itself. Tried all possible settings in different logical combinations as well - did not get any significant better results. I've noticed that the program doesn't recognize repeating shapes very well - it just drops them randomly on the sheet instead using their edges to join them. Overall for me, it didn't save cutting time or material at all.
Кореловские файлы не переваривает ,дхф тоже ругается, свг 1 из 10 кушает . Печалька
Nothing I import is scaled appropriately. A 6 inch tall object is imported to deepnest at 2.3 inches

I have not had this issue. That is something I would reach out to them to ask as it could be a bug or simply the program you're using.

i also had this issue. if file is imported in .dxf file, there is scalling proble. ig done in .svg format, there is no issue.
This isn’t hollow knight

Why the hell does this happen and how do I fix it?

@@Rawz33 I don't remember what exactly I did but i think it was the way I was saving the dxf. You also have to upload the nested file into an already open fusion file if you want to make any changes or it will automatically set it to mm and won't convert to the right size
Takes forever though
